- Surgical Methods of Repair in Adolescents after Groin Hernia Surgery: A Nationwide Cohort Study. [Journal Article]Ann Surg. 2026 Jun 26. [Online ahead of print]AnnS
- CONCLUSIONS: The overall reoperation rate for recurrence was generally favorable across all techniques, with endo-laparoscopic mesh repairs associated with a lower risk, which may offer an advantage in preventing recurrences in adolescents undergoing groin hernia surgery.

- Early Foley Catheter Removal after Segmental Colectomy With Colovesical Fistula Closure for Patients With Complicated Diverticulitis: A Single-Arm, Prospective Trial. [Journal Article]Ann Surg. 2026 Jun 26. [Online ahead of print]AnnS
- CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrates the safety of early Foley removal, with no bladder leaks, Foley reinsertions, or CVF recurrences observed. Early Foley removal should be considered for adoption as routine clinical practice following closure of CVF due to diverticulitis.

- Radiographic Versus Pathology-Integrated Response for Assessing Optimal Surgical Timing After Neoadjuvant Imatinib in Patients With Locally Advanced KIT Exon 11-Mutant GIST. [Journal Article]Ann Surg. 2026 Jun 26. [Online ahead of print]AnnS
- CONCLUSIONS: Radiographic and pathology-integrated response identified different windows of near-maximal treatment effect, suggesting that size reduction alone may underestimate biologic response. The later pathology-integrated response window was not accompanied by differences in recurrence-free survival.

- Efficacy of Splenectomy for Hematologic Malignancies: A Retrospective Cohort Study. [Journal Article]Ann Surg. 2026 Jun 26. [Online ahead of print]AnnS
- CONCLUSIONS: Our results benchmark postoperative outcomes of splenectomy in a contemporary cohort with hematological malignancies. The success of splenectomy varies according to indication. Appropriate splenectomy produces favorable outcomes across a broad range of hematologic malignancies, including improved transfusion independence and successful bridging to definitive therapies.

- Revisiting Simultaneous Liver and Kidney Transplantation from Donors After Circulatory Death in the Era of Machine Perfusion Technologies: A US Nationwide Analysis of 10,687 Cases. [Journal Article]Ann Surg. 2026 Jul 03. [Online ahead of print]AnnS
- CONCLUSIONS: Utilization of DCD donors for SLKT has increased substantially in parallel with the expanding use of MP and NRP, with graft/patient outcomes comparable to those of DBD-SLKT regardless of PSM. However, DBD-SLKT recipients had higher baseline preoperative risk. These support broader adoption of DCD donors for SLKT in appropriately selected recipients.

- CONCLUSIONS: IMGs are indispensable to the future of the U.S. surgical workforce. Institutional support, mentorship, equitable recruitment practices, expanded residency opportunities, and immigration policy reform are necessary to strengthen IMG integration and ensure continued access to high-quality surgical care.

- The Ambulatory Surgery Center Paradox: Why 60% of Surgeries Occur Where 2% of AI Research Happens. [Journal Article]Ann Surg. 2026 Jun 30. [Online ahead of print]AnnS
- CONCLUSIONS: A profound evidence gap exists between ASC surgical volume and ASC-focused AI research. The operational characteristics that distinguish ASCs from hospitals position them as ideal research settings for rigorous AI validation. Systematic ASC research is urgently needed to inform implementation decisions and establish data-standardization, technical, and economic frameworks required for the setting where most surgical patients receive care.

- Normothermic Machine and Regional Perfusion in U.S. DCD Liver Transplantation: A National Comparative Analysis Supporting Adoption as Standard of Care. [Journal Article]Ann Surg. 2026 Jun 23. [Online ahead of print]AnnS
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides the most comprehensive U.S. comparison of modern procurement and preservation strategies in DCD LT. Both NRP and NMP were associated with improved GS vs. the historical standard (SRR-SCS). No significant survival differences were observed between NRP and NMP, confirming that these strategies serve complementary roles in DCD liver transplantation. These findings support the adoption of both NRP and NMP as the new standard of care in DCD LT.
