- Are Early-career Orthopaedic Oncologists Performing Fewer Tumor Surgeries as the Number of Fellowships Increase? [Journal Article]Clin Orthop Relat Res. 2026 Jul 15. [Online ahead of print]CO
- CONCLUSIONS: Although the number of early-career orthopaedic oncologists increased over the study period, both the proportion and absolute number of tumor cases declined and multifellowship training became more common.

- Foot Shape Changes During Pregnancy and Postpartum Are Associated With Patient Pain and Function. [Journal Article]Clin Orthop Relat Res. 2026 Jul 10. [Online ahead of print]CO
- CONCLUSIONS: This study identified potential morphological risk factors for musculoskeletal pain and reduced function in pregnant patients. Patient-reported pain and function were predominantly associated with pregnancy-induced lower extremity edema. These findings have potential clinical impact to guide interventions (such as compression socks, massage, or foot elevation) aimed at managing foot changes during pregnancy to reduce musculoskeletal pain and disability.Level of Evidence Level III, prognostic study.

- How Is Platelet-rich Plasma Utilized by Outpatient Providers When Covered by Insurance Without Need for Preauthorization? [Journal Article]Clin Orthop Relat Res. 2026 Jul 10. [Online ahead of print]CO
- CONCLUSIONS: During the 5 years that outpatient PRP treatment was covered by TRICARE without preauthorization, utilization showed substantial year-on-year increases, with associated increases in reimbursement to providers. The value of these treatments is questionable given the weak evidence base for its use. The program allowed for one outlier clinic to receive millions of dollars while still technically adhering to requirements. Policymakers should consider both the efficacy of treatment and the potential for exploitation when considering coverage of newer treatments and institute administrative controls to protect against outlier behaviors.

- Is Dose Reduction After Initial Treatment With Denosumab Associated With Subsequent Skeletal-related Events, Osteonecrosis of the Jaw, or Osteoporotic Fractures in Patients With Metastatic Carcinoma? A Nationwide Retrospective Comparative Study. [Journal Article]Clin Orthop Relat Res. 2026 Jul 07. [Online ahead of print]CO
- CONCLUSIONS: In this nationwide retrospective comparative study, extending the denosumab dosing interval up to 90 days maintained efficacy against SREs and was associated with a low risk of ONJ. However, dosage intervals beyond 90 days or very low cumulative dosing were associated with a high risk of SREs. These findings support the potential feasibility of modest dose reduction in clinical practice, but they highlight the need for larger controlled trials to confirm the efficacy of extending dosing intervals and adjusting cumulative dosage.

- Kyphotic Scapular Posture Increases Posterior Deltoid Demand and Acromial-Spine Strain During Shoulder Motion: A Cadaver Study. [Journal Article]Clin Orthop Relat Res. 2026 Jul 07. [Online ahead of print]CO
- CONCLUSIONS: A type C posture increases posterior deltoid demand and acromial-spine strain while reducing anterior deltoid contribution. These findings suggest posture-dependent mechanical inefficiency rather than joint restriction as a potential driver of reduced shoulder performance in individuals with kyphosis. Preoperative CT-based posture classification may help surgeons anticipate the posterior shift in deltoid demand and elevated acromial strain associated with type C alignment, informing implant positioning decisions to account for the reduced anterior deltoid mechanical advantage in this group.
