  • Genetically Guided Pharmacotherapy for Structural Neurovascular Lesions. [Journal Article]
Neurol Genet. 2026 Aug; 12(4):e200413.Hale AT, Kundishora AJ, Kahle KTNG
  • Structural neurovascular lesions (SNVLs)-arteriovenous malformations, cavernous malformations, and vein of Galen aneurysmal malformations, among others-have historically been treated using neurosurgical, radiotherapeutic, and endovascular approaches. However, lesion size, location, and presence of high-risk angioarchitectural features preclude many patients from receiving these treatments. Advanc…
  • Legal Protections to Mitigate Discrimination due to Neurodegenerative Biomarker Status. [Review]
    Neurology. 2026 Aug 11; 107(3):e218296.Arias J, Blasco D, … Largent EANeur
  • It is a critical time to advance solutions that would mitigate the perceived, potential, and actual risk of discrimination based on neurodegenerative biomarker information. Across neurodegenerative conditions, biomarkers are being evaluated to detect disease pathology before the onset of clinically measurable symptoms. Clinical adoption and research that expands the use of biomarkers raises novel…
  • Orexin, Sleep, and Cognition in Alzheimer Disease: Non-REM Oscillatory Activity and Neural Resilience. [Journal Article]
    Neurology. 2026 Aug 11; 107(3):e218307.Paez A, Piñol-Ripoll G, … Dang-Vu TTNeur
  • CONCLUSIONS: In biomarker-confirmed AD, NREM SP and SO activity are associated with CSF orexin concentrations and moderate associations between orexin and longitudinal cognitive and neuropsychiatric outcomes. Limitations include the observational design and absence of a comparator group, precluding causal inference and limiting contextualization relative to normal aging. NREM oscillatory metrics and orexin concentrations may represent complementary physiologic markers for disease monitoring and therapeutic targeting.
  • Astrocytic lipid dysregulation as an early driver of neurodegeneration. [Review]
Nat Rev Neurol. 2026 Jul 13. [Online ahead of print]Kim WS, Halliday GMNR
  • Astrocytes have traditionally been cast as supportive glia, but they are increasingly recognized as metabolic hubs that regulate cholesterol synthesis, fatty acid detoxification, lipid droplet dynamics and redox homeostasis in the CNS. Neurons have a limited intrinsic capacity for lipid storage and detoxification and rely heavily on astrocytes to maintain a safe lipid environment. Emerging eviden…
