  • Comparative Clinical Characteristics of ICU and Non-ICU Hospitalized Patients With Human Anaplasmosis. [Journal Article]
Open Forum Infect Dis. 2026 May; 13(5):ofag313.Dumic I, Schultz M, … Shiari AOF
  • CONCLUSIONS: In hospitalized adults with HGA, ICU-level care was associated with gastrointestinal symptoms at presentation/admission, admission hyponatremia and hyperbilirubinemia, lower platelet nadir, and marked hyperferritinemia when measured. Because these findings were derived from univariate group-level comparisons with substantial overlap between groups, they should be viewed as hypothesis-generating rather than individually predictive or sufficient as stand-alone triage criteria.
  • Intraoperative mechanical power and postoperative pulmonary complications: association and threshold analysis in adult intra-abdominal surgery. [Journal Article]
J Anesth Analg Crit Care. 2026 Jun 02. [Online ahead of print]El-Khatib M, HajAli T, … Multicentre Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG) Perioperative Clinical Research CommitteeJA
  • CONCLUSIONS: Higher MP was associated with increased risk of PPCs in patients undergoing intra-abdominal surgery. Although MP values above 12 J min[-][1] were associated with significantly increased odds of PPCs, this threshold demonstrated notably low standalone discriminatory performance. Further research is required to evaluate whether MP-directed lung-protective ventilation strategy could prospectively improve clinical outcomes. • Oral immunotherapy for the treatment of pumpkin seed allergy: a real-world case series. [Journal Article]
Allergy Asthma Clin Immunol. 2026 Jun 02. [Online ahead of print]Paradis V, Kanou M, … Des Roches AAA
  • CONCLUSIONS: Pumpkin seed OIT appears feasible in a highly atopic pediatric population, with a safety profile comparable to that reported for OIT to other food allergens. Given the increasing dietary exposure to pumpkin seeds, larger prospective studies are needed to better define risk factors and long-term outcomes.
  • Variation in prehospital ACS care within a single city: a bicentric observational study (MONAH-1 subgroup analysis). [Journal Article]
    BMC Emerg Med. 2026 Jun 02; 26(1).Hofmann T, Baumann P, … Meyer FBE
  • CONCLUSIONS: Documented adherence to selected prehospital ACS process indicators differed between the two providers. MD1 showed higher documented rates for several process measures, but the retrospective design, heterogeneous documentation formats, limited case-mix adjustment, and the possibility of reverse causation for dwell time preclude causal inference or conclusions about patient benefit. The findings are hypothesis-generating and primarily relevant for local quality assurance and prospective validation.
  • Prevalence and clinical impact of gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with cystinosis. [Journal Article]
Mol Genet Metab. 2026 Jun 01; 148(4):110166. [Online ahead of print]de Vreugd A, van Campen ML, … Levtchenko ENMG
  • CONCLUSIONS: GI symptoms are common and burdensome in cystinosis, significantly impairing quality of life and increasing the risk of malnutrition. Early recognition and targeted intervention, including dietary support, might mitigate the risk of malnutrition and enhance overall quality of life in this patient population. PG-SGA score and BIA measurements assist in recognising the individual need for follow-up and intervention.
  • Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome in an Adolescent Presenting with Acute Massive Gastric Obstruction. [Case Reports]
    Int Med Case Rep J. 2026; 19:609809.Chatzichidiroglou A, Karakasis P, … Antonakou AIM
  • Superior mesenteric artery syndrome (SMAS) is an uncommon cause of proximal intestinal obstruction caused by compression of the third portion of the duodenum between the SMA and the abdominal aorta. We report the case of a 17-year-old boy with a 2-year history of recurrent nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, early satiety, postprandial fullness, and progressive abdominal distension, followed by re…
  • Torsion of a necrotic appendiceal mucocele presenting as acute abdomen: a rare case report. [Case Reports]
    J Surg Case Rep. 2026 Jun; 2026(6):rjag409.Kouskos E, Dalla P, … Andronikou AJS
  • Torsion of the vermiform appendix is rare. When torsion involves an appendiceal mucocele, timely surgical management, and avoidance of rupture are essential to prevent intraperitoneal mucin spillage. A 68-year-old woman presented with 12 h history of severe lower abdominal pain. Examination revealed marked lower abdomen rebound tenderness and her laboratory tests showed leukocytosis and elevated …
