- Real-world safety signals of fezolinetant in women with menopausal vasomotor symptoms: a pharmacovigilance analysis of the WHO VigiAccess database. [Journal Article]Menopause. 2026 Aug 18. [Online ahead of print]M
- CONCLUSIONS: This exploratory analysis found that fezolinetant's real-world safety profile was broadly consistent with phase 3 trials, with efficacy in reducing menopausal vasomotor symptoms. Disproportionality signals mainly involved liver and neurological events. These findings do not reflect absolute risk or incidence and should be considered hypothesis-generating. In view of its established benefit, they support a balanced benefit-risk assessment for clinical use.

- An Unusual Suspect in a Case of Fungal Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infection. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jul; 18(7):e112913.C
- Necrotizing soft tissue infection (NSTI) is a rapidly progressive and potentially fatal infection that is most commonly bacterial in origin but can also be fungal. We present the case of a 79-year-old woman who developed NSTI after gastrostomy tube (G-tube) manipulation. She presented to the emergency department (ED) with abdominal pain and inflammation, and imaging revealed the G-tube to be posi…

- Urine Trouble: Forniceal Rupture in the Setting of a Small Urolithic Stone. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jul; 18(7):e112904.C
- Fornical ruptures, also known as calyceal ruptures, are a rare sequela of obstructive uropathy in most cases. This pathology can present with similar symptoms to urolithiasis, such as costovertebral tenderness, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Treatment of forniceal ruptures can vary based on the individual clinical presentation. It may be conservative with hydration, intravenous antibiotics…

- When Hygiene Turns Hazardous: An Unusual Case of Rectosigmoid Impaction by a Health Faucet Requiring Laparotomy-Assisted Extraction. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jul; 18(7):e112891.C
- Rectal foreign bodies (RFBs) represent an uncommon but challenging surgical emergency. While most cases result from intentional insertion for sexual gratification, accidental insertion is exceedingly rare. Management depends on the size, shape, location, and associated complications of the foreign body. We present a rare case of patient-reported rectal insertion of a health faucet nozzle resultin…

- Explainable artificial intelligence for postoperative analgesia risk stratification and clinical decision support in abdominal surgery. [Journal Article]Front Digit Health. 2026; 8:1851084.FD
- CONCLUSIONS: This study presents an integrated XAI framework combining predictive modeling, calibration assessment, decision-curve evaluation, explainability analysis, and language-based interpretation for postoperative analgesia risk stratification. The results highlight the importance of evaluating both predictive accuracy and clinical reliability when developing AI-assisted decision-support systems. Further multicenter prospective studies incorporating larger datasets and real-time clinical variables are required to validate model generalizability and evaluate implementation in perioperative care.

- Detecting scoliosis at scale using automated cobb angle analysis in the UK biobank. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This fully automated approach enables large-scale, population-based assessment of spinal curvature, revealing adult scoliosis to be substantially under-recognised and closely linked to muscle quality and back pain.

- Development and internal validation of the Low Cardiac Index Score: a simplified bedside tool for continuous intraoperative screening. [Journal Article]
- Advanced haemodynamic monitoring of cardiac index is restricted to selected high-risk cases, leaving most patients undergoing major surgery without real-time assessment. We aimed to develop and internally validate a simplified bedside score for continuous, minute-by-minute screening of low cardiac index using routinely available parameters. Retrospective single-centre study of adults undergoing m…

- Spontaneous Rupture of Uterine Vessels Complicated with Placental Abruption: A Rare Case Report. [Case Reports]Int J Womens Health. 2026; 18:557211.IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Spontaneous hemoperitoneum in pregnancy (SHiP) due to rupture of the uterine venous plexus is rare but may lead to life-threatening circumstances. These conditions may occur alongside placental abruption and manifest as fetal distress, requiring comprehensive analysis and prompt surgical intervention despite the lack of maternal hypotension and trauma.

- An Unusual Presentation of Leiomyosarcoma Mimicking Parasitic Fibroids: A Diagnostic Dilemma. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jul; 18(7):e112772.C
- Uterine leiomyosarcoma (uLMS) is a rare and aggressive mesenchymal malignancy associated with a high risk of recurrence and metastatic spread. Although recurrent disease commonly presents with infiltrative or bulky pelvic masses, atypical patterns of dissemination may create diagnostic challenges. We present the case of a 49-year-old woman with a history of FIGO stage IB uterine leiomyosarcoma wh…

- When Nausea and Vomiting Are Something Else Entirely, It's Not Gastroparesis: A Report of Two Cases. [Case Reports]
- Gastroparesis, a chronic motility disorder, is a diagnosis of exclusion that necessitates careful evaluation for structural and surgically correctable causes. Although the medical differential diagnosis emphasizes functional etiologies, anatomic abnormalities are often under-recognized despite guideline recommendations for thorough endoscopic and structural assessment. Symptoms such as nausea, vo…

- Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy as Definitive Treatment for Gastric Volvulus in a 94-Year-Old High-Risk Surgical Patient: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- Gastric volvulus is an uncommon condition characterized by abnormal rotation of the stomach around one of its anatomical axes. Its diagnosis can be challenging because of its low incidence and nonspecific clinical presentation, particularly in elderly patients, and it may occur in association with a hiatal hernia. Delayed diagnosis may result in serious complications, including ischemia and perfo…
