- Primary sclerosing cholangitis complicated with ulcerative colitis and double gene mutations of UGT1A1 and SLC25A13: a case report. [Case Reports]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1844455.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: This case reports a rare instance of primary sclerosing cholangitis complicated with ulcerative colitis in a young female, who was detected to have heterozygous mutations in the UGT1A1 and SLC25A13 genes. These findings generate the hypothesis that genetic susceptibility in the pathogenesis of PSC-UC and may guide future clinical approaches.

- Spontaneous Perforation of Pyometra in a Postmenopausal Woman with Intrauterine Device Presenting with Septic Shock: A Case Report and Review of Published Cases. [Case Reports]Int J Womens Health. 2026; 18:612568.IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: SPP should be considered in the differential diagnosis for a postmenopausal woman presenting with acute abdomen and pneumoperitoneum. Early CT evaluation, prompt source-control surgery, and empirical antibiotics with coverage against Enterobacteriaceae and anaerobes are essential to reduce mortality. Antibiotic therapy should be guided by culture and susceptibility testing.

- Advancing abdominal surgery recovery implementation: a unified framework for intensified recovery protocols by the EUropean PErioperative MEdical Networking collaborative. [Journal Article]Front Surg. 2026; 13:1827678.FS
- CONCLUSIONS: The EUPEMEN project represents a coordinated, multilingual, and education-centered multinational strategy for harmonizing Enhanced Recovery implementation across heterogeneous healthcare systems. By integrating structured protocol design, train-the-trainer methodology, and digital educational infrastructure, the project provides a scalable framework for bridging the Enhanced Recovery implementation gap in Europe. Long-term follow-up is required to assess protocol adherence and clinical impact.

- Laparoscopic transgastric and endoscopic-assisted enucleation of horseshoe shaped leiomyoma of the cardia: surgical technique. [Journal Article]J Vis Surg. 2026; 12:6.JV
- Leiomyomas are rare benign esophageal tumors and represent less than 1% of all esophageal neoplasms. Those located at the esophagogastric junction (EGJ) are uncommon and challenging due to their proximity to the lower esophageal sphincter. Most cases are asymptomatic and discovered incidentally, though symptomatic patients may present with dysphagia, heartburn, regurgitation, or chest pain. Diagn…

- Comparative Clinical Characteristics of ICU and Non-ICU Hospitalized Patients With Human Anaplasmosis. [Journal Article]Open Forum Infect Dis. 2026 May; 13(5):ofag313.OF
- CONCLUSIONS: In hospitalized adults with HGA, ICU-level care was associated with gastrointestinal symptoms at presentation/admission, admission hyponatremia and hyperbilirubinemia, lower platelet nadir, and marked hyperferritinemia when measured. Because these findings were derived from univariate group-level comparisons with substantial overlap between groups, they should be viewed as hypothesis-generating rather than individually predictive or sufficient as stand-alone triage criteria.

- Intraoperative mechanical power and postoperative pulmonary complications: association and threshold analysis in adult intra-abdominal surgery. [Journal Article]J Anesth Analg Crit Care. 2026 Jun 02. [Online ahead of print]JA
- CONCLUSIONS: Higher MP was associated with increased risk of PPCs in patients undergoing intra-abdominal surgery. Although MP values above 12 J min[-][1] were associated with significantly increased odds of PPCs, this threshold demonstrated notably low standalone discriminatory performance. Further research is required to evaluate whether MP-directed lung-protective ventilation strategy could prospectively improve clinical outcomes. - Oral immunotherapy for the treatment of pumpkin seed allergy: a real-world case series. [Journal Article]Allergy Asthma Clin Immunol. 2026 Jun 02. [Online ahead of print]AA
- CONCLUSIONS: Pumpkin seed OIT appears feasible in a highly atopic pediatric population, with a safety profile comparable to that reported for OIT to other food allergens. Given the increasing dietary exposure to pumpkin seeds, larger prospective studies are needed to better define risk factors and long-term outcomes.

- Variation in prehospital ACS care within a single city: a bicentric observational study (MONAH-1 subgroup analysis). [Journal Article]BMC Emerg Med. 2026 Jun 02; 26(1).BE
- CONCLUSIONS: Documented adherence to selected prehospital ACS process indicators differed between the two providers. MD1 showed higher documented rates for several process measures, but the retrospective design, heterogeneous documentation formats, limited case-mix adjustment, and the possibility of reverse causation for dwell time preclude causal inference or conclusions about patient benefit. The findings are hypothesis-generating and primarily relevant for local quality assurance and prospective validation.

- Prevalence and clinical impact of gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with cystinosis. [Journal Article]Mol Genet Metab. 2026 Jun 01; 148(4):110166. [Online ahead of print]MG
- CONCLUSIONS: GI symptoms are common and burdensome in cystinosis, significantly impairing quality of life and increasing the risk of malnutrition. Early recognition and targeted intervention, including dietary support, might mitigate the risk of malnutrition and enhance overall quality of life in this patient population. PG-SGA score and BIA measurements assist in recognising the individual need for follow-up and intervention.

- BackgroundInferior pancreaticoduodenal artery (IPDA) aneurysms are rare visceral artery aneurysms with high rupture rates and significant mortality. Nonspecific clinical presentation frequently leads to diagnostic delay. We conducted a systematic review to characterize clinical features, diagnostic pitfalls, treatment modalities, and outcomes.MethodsA systematic review following PRISMA 2020 guide…

- Superior mesenteric artery syndrome (SMAS) is an uncommon cause of proximal intestinal obstruction caused by compression of the third portion of the duodenum between the SMA and the abdominal aorta. We report the case of a 17-year-old boy with a 2-year history of recurrent nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, early satiety, postprandial fullness, and progressive abdominal distension, followed by re…

- Torsion of the vermiform appendix is rare. When torsion involves an appendiceal mucocele, timely surgical management, and avoidance of rupture are essential to prevent intraperitoneal mucin spillage.
