- Efficacy of Bupivacaine and Dexamethasone versus Liposomal Bupivacaine for Transversus Abdominis Plane Blocks in Free Flap Breast Reconstruction. [Journal Article]Plast Reconstr Surg. 2026 May 15. [Online ahead of print]PR
- Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator (DIEP) flap is the most common form of autologous breast reconstruction. Enhanced recovery protocols often include transversus abdominis plane (TAP) blocks using liposomal bupivacaine, but cost limits use. Dexamethasone added to bupivacaine is a low-cost strategy to prolong block duration. We compared the efficacy of liposomal bupivacaine to bupivacaine with de…

- Extreme Hyperlipasemia in End-Stage Renal Disease Mimicking Acute Pancreatitis: A Diagnostic Pitfall. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e106974.C
- Marked elevations of pancreatic enzymes are commonly interpreted as evidence of acute pancreatitis. However, in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), serum amylase and lipase may be elevated without pancreatic inflammation, posing a significant diagnostic challenge. We present a case illustrating the diagnostic dilemma of extreme pancreatic enzyme elevation in an ESRD patient undergoing p…

- Case Report: Gastrointestinal cancer initially presenting as postmenopausal osteoporosis. [Case Reports]Front Oncol. 2026; 16:1802750.FO
- Gastric cancer usually presents late with nonspecific symptoms such as epigastric discomfort, anorexia, weight loss, nausea, anemia, or gastrointestinal bleeding. Initial presentation with osteoporosis-like manifestations and multiple bone metastases in the absence of gastrointestinal symptoms is rare.

- Isolated Hepatic Tuberculosis Masquerading as Hepatic Cystadenoma: A rare presentation. [Case Reports]Pak J Med Sci. 2026 Apr; 42(411AASC):S169-S171.PJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Isolated hepatic tuberculosis can mimic malignancies such as hepatic cystadenoma, complicating diagnosis and treatment. Awareness of this rare presentation is crucial, especially in TB-endemic regions, to prevent misdiagnosis and unnecessary interventions. Early recognition and appropriate anti-TB therapy can lead to favorable outcomes, as demonstrated in this case.

- Liraglutide Causing Pancreatitis in an Indian Obese Female: A Case Report and Review of the Literature. [Case Reports]Curr Drug Saf. 2026 May 08. [Online ahead of print]CD
- CONCLUSIONS: A systematic literature search yielded 10 relevant case reports encompassing 11 cases of liraglutide-induced acute pancreatitis, with our case bringing the total to 12. These cases showed a slight male predominance and favorable outcomes with conservative treatment. Our report thus highlights the need for clinician vigilance and risk-benefit assessment when prescribing liraglutide, emphasizing early drug cessation upon suspicion of pancreatitis.

- Whipple's Disease Complicated by Severe Pulmonary Hypertension and Right Ventricular Failure. [Journal Article]Eur J Case Rep Intern Med. 2026; 13(5):006600.EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Whipple's disease should be considered in the differential diagnosis of otherwise unexplained pre-capillary pulmonary hypertension, particularly when accompanied by chronic diarrhoea, arthralgia or systemic features.Unlike idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension, Whipple's disease-associated pulmonary hypertension is often driven by a reversible inflammatory process and may present with severe right ventricular failure and haemodynamic compromise.Recognition of this rare entity is critical, as pulmonary hypertension-specific vasodilator therapy alone is frequently insufficient, whereas timely initiation of targeted antimicrobial treatment can result in rapid and profound clinical and haemodynamic recovery.

- Indolent natural killer-cell lymphoproliferative disorder of the gallbladder: a rare case report. [Case Reports]Front Oncol. 2026; 16:1649462.FO
- CONCLUSIONS: We herein present a rare case of iNKLPD primarily occurring in the gallbladder. Given its atypical clinical and pathological features, iNKLPD requires careful distinction from other lymphomas or inflammatory lesions to prevent misdiagnosis. Furthermore, due to its indolent nature, accurate recognition is crucial to avoid the potential risk of overtreatment.

- Successful surgical intervention of Bouveret's syndrome at a district general hospital: a case report and literature review. [Case Reports]Int J Surg Case Rep. 2026 May; 138(5):1951-1955.IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: GI is clinically ambiguous at presentation. In absence of definitive guidelines, management for GI relies on a multidisciplinary approach and sound surgical judgment. For high-risk patients with Bouveret's syndrome, enterolithotomy alone, with intra-operative EGD and consistent post-operative follow-up provide the best patient outcomes.

- Invasive gastric candidiasis presenting as gastric perforation in an immunocompetent adult: a rare case report. [Case Reports]Int J Surg Case Rep. 2026 May; 138(5):2043-2046.IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights that invasive gastric candidiasis can be a primary cause of life-threatening complications like perforation and peritonitis in immunocompetent individuals. It should be considered in the differential diagnosis of spontaneous gastric perforation, even in the absence of classic risk factors. Histopathological evaluation of perforation margins is crucial for diagnosis and guiding appropriate antifungal therapy.
