- Differential Quantification of Cutibacterium acnes Phylotypes IA and IB/II on Healthy and Acne-Prone Human Skin. [Journal Article]Exp Dermatol. 2026 Aug; 35(8):e70347.ED
- Cutibacterium acnes is a common skin bacterium that inhabits sebaceous follicles and comprises multiple phylotypes. Healthy skin is colonized by a C. acnes population dominated by phylotypes IA, IB, and II. In acne, this diversity is reduced, with a predominance of phylotype IA. Quantifying C. acnes phylotypes has been challenging due to the lack of specific methods. Here, we developed a droplet …

- Artemisinin-Directed Crystallization of an Iron-Sulfasalazine Coordination Polymer for Acne Synergistic Phototherapy With Sustained Antibacterial and Pro-Regenerative Effects. [Journal Article]Adv Healthc Mater. 2026 Aug 13; :e71591. [Online ahead of print]AH
- Acne vulgaris, driven by Propionibacterium acnes infection, is poorly addressed by conventional phototherapy due to oxygen dependence, transient efficacy, and pro-inflammatory side effects. Herein, we design a ternary coordination polymer (Fe-SASP/ART) that overcomes these limitations while promoting keratinocyte proliferation. The first formed Fe-sulfasalazine (SASP) precursors exhibit photother…

- In Vivo Monitoring of Facial Acne Development by Using Multimodal Functional OCT. [Journal Article]J Biophotonics. 2026 Aug; 19(8):e70337.JB
- Acne is a common inflammatory skin condition and frequently leads to long-term adverse clinical outcomes including scarring and pigmentation, negatively impacting Health Related Quality of Life (HRQoL). Monitoring of acne progression can improve understanding of lesion evolution, support evaluation of treatment response and provide potential biomarkers for future investigation of acne sequelae. T…

- Glycemic Instability and Skin Health: Metabolic Mechanisms Linking Dietary Patterns with Cutaneous Dysfunction. [Review]
- Dietary patterns associated with high glycemic load and recurrent postprandial glucose excursions may influence skin physiology through mechanisms involving oxidative stress, insulin-IGF-1 signaling, chronic low-grade inflammation, and advanced glycation end product (AGE) formation. Disturbances in glucose homeostasis have been associated with alterations in epidermal barrier integrity, sebaceous…

- Moranoline-Enriched Bacillus velezensis AmoreLumina Culture Extract Attenuates Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation in Acne-Prone Skin. [Journal Article]
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) results from inflammatory responses that leave persistent dark spots around pores after acne lesions are resolved. This pigmentation is caused by increased melanogenesis in melanocytes stimulated by acne-causing bacteria, followed by phagocytosis of excess melanin by macrophages that remain in the dermis. Therefore, to eliminate PIH caused by acne, it is …

- Dual drug-loaded dissolving microneedle combining photodynamic therapy and isotretinoin for enhanced acne vulgaris treatment. [Journal Article]Int J Pharm. 2026 Aug 12; :127311. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- Acne vulgaris is a multifactorial inflammatory skin disorder driven by excessive sebum secretion, follicular obstruction, and Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes) proliferation. Conventional topical treatments often suffer from insufficient drug penetration and challenges in co-delivery of drugs with contrasting physicochemical properties. In this study, a dual drug-loaded dissolving microneedle (MN) s…

- Tolerability, Drug Utilization Pattern and Effectiveness of Minocycline Oral Formulations in India: A Real-World Retrospective Study from Electronic Medical Records. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In routine real-world practice, oral minocycline was prescribed for a range of indications, predominantly acne, with prescription patterns largely aligned with contemporary recommendations. These findings suggest that oral minocycline was rationally utilized, well tolerated and associated with positive clinical outcomes in routine clinical practice. Despite inherent limitations of the retrospective design, the study provides robust real-world evidence supporting the continued use of oral minocycline in Indian clinical practice. These findings should be interpreted cautiously in the view of the retrospective design and inherent limitations of EMR-based data. REGISTRY AND THE REGISTRATION NO.

- A systematic review evaluating efficacy of probiotics in prevention and treatment of bacterial infections. [Review]Future Microbiol. 2026 Aug 12; :1-13. [Online ahead of print]FM
- CONCLUSIONS: Probiotics show promise as adjuvant therapy for select bacterial infections, but evidence certainty is low. Larger structured RCTs with standardized outcome measures are required before routine clinical recommendations can be established.

- Centrifugally spun ZnO fibers: synthesis and antibacterial activity against Acne vulgaris. [Journal Article]RSC Adv. 2026 Aug 11. [Online ahead of print]RA
- In this work, a novel approach for the synthesis of zinc oxide (ZnO) fibers is presented that is based on centrifugal spinning from optimized spinning solutions, followed by tailored annealing. The resulting ZnO fibers were evaluated for their antibacterial properties and compared to commercial ZnO nanoparticles (NPs). Initially, precursor fibers were produced by centrifugal spinning using polyvi…

- A Retrospective Analysis of the Clinical Response and Safety of Radiofrequency Microneedling Treatment in Managing Acne Vulgaris. [Journal Article]Aesthet Surg J Open Forum. 2026; 8:ojag097.AS
- CONCLUSIONS: In real-world practice, POTENZA RFMN was associated with high clinical improvement, substantial lesion reduction, excellent tolerability, and universal patient-reported benefits. These findings support its pragmatic use for acne in patients with Fitzpatrick skin types III and IV and warrant confirmation in prospective controlled studies.

- Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition likely caused by several factors, including overgrowth of the lipophilic yeast Malassezia, increased sebaceous gland activity, and a potential genetic predisposition, whereas Malassezia folliculitis (MF) is a fungal infection of hair follicles. In this case, a 22-year-old male initially presented with erythematous papules on the …
