  • CONCLUSIONS: In this cohort of critically ill COVID-19 patients, thrombin generation parameters were inversely associated with disease severity, whereas no association was observed with SIC or SAC-defined coagulopathy. Viscoelastic testing demonstrated increased clot firmness and elevated lysis indices, while contact pathway-related markers decreased with increasing disease severity. These findings provide a descriptive characterization of coagulation abnormalities in critically ill COVID-19 patients and should be interpreted in the context of frequent ECMO support and systemic anticoagulation.

  • CONCLUSIONS: Neonatal survival improved substantially despite progressively higher sickness levels, stemming largely from the improved survival of very low birthweight neonates. We noted significant temporal changes in the morbidity profile and the pathogen profile. Sustained improvements in infection control, antenatal care and intensive support for smaller neonates appear to have contributed to these gains.

  • CONCLUSIONS: Prompt bronchoscopic lavage may be beneficial following large-volume aspiration, potentially through reducing inflammatory mediators and mechanically clearing particulate matter. Despite limitations inherent to its retrospective design and small sample size, this case series supports the safety and clinical utility of bronchoscopic lavage in this setting. Further large-scale studies are warranted to confirm these findings and establish standardized treatment protocols.

  • CONCLUSIONS: Prediction models for ALI/ARDS and related acute pulmonary complications showed generally good discrimination, with logistic regression remaining the most widely used approach. However, heterogeneous outcome definitions, inconsistent predictor timing, limited external validation, and incomplete reporting continue to hinder clinical translation. Future studies should standardize outcome definitions, clearly specify prediction time points and horizons, and prioritize transparent multicenter external validation.

  • CONCLUSIONS: Research on VILI has expanded substantially over the past two decades, with increasing global collaboration and diversification of research themes. Current hotspots have shifted from clinical ventilation strategies toward mechanistic investigations involving inflammatory signaling pathways and cellular injury processes. These findings provide a comprehensive overview of the intellectual structure and developmental trajectory of VILI research and may help guide future basic, translational, and clinical investigations in this field.
