  • A Drug Repurposing Strategy for a New Cause of Endometrial Infertility: Unveiling Promising New Treatments. [Journal Article]
    medRxiv. 2025 Nov 06.Parraga-Leo A, Sebastian-Leon P, … Diaz-Gimeno PM
  • CONCLUSIONS: Genistein, pioglitazone, alprostadil, flunisolide, and tenoxicam emerged as potential therapies to treat two molecular causes of endometrial failure not originating in endometrial timing.Although our artificial intelligence-based stratification model revealed clinical and functional differences among profiles, it was designed for drug repurposing rather than predictive diagnosis. A larger, specifically designed study would be required to validate predictive performance and generalisability. Further clinical trials are needed to evaluate the proposed drugs as personalised treatments for this condition. This is the first application of a systems-based drug repurposing strategy in IVF to develop tailored therapeutic interventions. We propose genistein, pioglitazone, alprostadil, flunisolide, and tenoxicam as approved, safe drugs identified through an evidence-based approach that could prevent loss of good-quality embryos and miscarriage due to maternal endometrial factors. These findings, supported by functional in vitro validation, pave the way for future clinical trials advancing personalised medicine in endometrial-factor infertility.
  • Intranasal Corticosteroids and Oral Montelukast for Paediatric Obstructive Sleep Apnoea: A Systematic Review. [Review]
    Pharmaceutics. 2025 Apr 30; 17(5).Zaffanello M, Pietrobelli A, … Piacentini GP
  • Background/Objectives: Paediatric Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) is characterised by recurrent episodes of upper airway obstruction during sleep, manifesting as snoring, intermittent oxygen desaturation, and frequent nocturnal awakenings. Standard treatments include surgical interventions, pharmacological therapies, intranasal corticosteroids, and oral montelukast. However, significant variabilit…
  • Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed): Flunisolide [BOOK]
Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed). National Library of Medicine (US): Bethesda (MD).BOOK
  • Although not measured, the amounts of inhaled corticosteroids absorbed into the maternal bloodstream and excreted into breastmilk are probably too small to affect a breastfed infant. Reviewers and an expert panel consider inhaled and oral corticosteroids acceptable to use during breastfeeding.[1][2][3]
  • The rising cost of rhinologic medications. [Journal Article]
Ann Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2023 Sep; 131(3):327-332.Vasudev M, Torabi SJ, … Kuan ECAA
  • CONCLUSIONS: The rising cost of highly used medications contributes to increased patient acquisition costs and may pose barriers of drug adherence to particularly vulnerable populations.
  • In Silico Drug Repurposing in Multiple Sclerosis Using scRNA-Seq Data. [Journal Article]
    Int J Mol Sci. 2023 Jan 04; 24(2).Shevtsov A, Raevskiy M, … Medvedeva YIJ
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system still lacking a cure. Treatment typically focuses on slowing the progression and managing MS symptoms. Single-cell transcriptomics allows the investigation of the immune system-the key player in MS onset and development-in great detail increasing our understanding of MS mechanisms and stimulating the discovery of the t…
  • Supercritical CO2 Extraction of Organic Solvents from Flunisolide and Fluticasone Propionate. [Journal Article]
    Pharmaceutics. 2021 Apr 23; 13(5).Baldino L, Scognamiglio M, Reverchon EP
  • In this work, Class 2 and Class 3 solvents contained in two corticosteroids, flunisolide (Fluni) and fluticasone propionate (Fluti), were reduced to a few ppm by supercritical CO2 extraction. The process was carried out at pressures from 80 to 200 bar, temperatures of 40 °C and 80 °C, and at a fixed CO2 flow rate of 0.7 kg/h. The results demonstrated that CO2 density is the key parameter influenc…
