  • Response of microbial interactions in hybrid biofilm system with low organic loading to micropollutant removal. [Journal Article]
Environ Technol. 2026 May 06; :1-13. [Online ahead of print]Zengin GE, Dadkhah R, … Cokgor EET
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) are the most frequently observed micropollutants in the effluents of conventional wastewater treatment plants and hybrid technologies could be an alternative to conventional systems. However, the effect on micropollutants' removal has not been well studied. In this study, the impact of hybrid systems on micropollutant removal, as well as the determinat…
  • Severe Polyarticular gout mimicking sepsis after acute kidney injury: a case report. [Case Reports]
Oxf Med Case Reports. 2026 Apr; 2026(4):omag046.Schönfeld L, Stuhr M, … Wilde NOM
  • CONCLUSIONS: This case illustrates how severe polyarticular gout can mimic fulminant sepsis with extreme inflammatory markers and FDG-PET hypermetabolism. Acute kidney injury acted as a trigger for catastrophic crystal inflammation. Milk-of-urate bullae reflected extensive systemic urate burden. Recognition of this pattern is essential to avoid diagnostic delay and unnecessary antimicrobial therapy.
  • Electrochemical Divergent Synthesis of Azetidines via Strain Release of 1‑Azabicyclo[1.1.0]butanes. [Journal Article]
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2026 Apr 27; :e5707597. [Online ahead of print]Duhan N, Dutt S, … Banerjee PAC
  • Due to the favorable pharmaceutical properties of the azetidine ring, it can serve as a bioisostere to replace saturated heterocycles such as piperazines, piperidines, and pyrrolidines in drug discovery. The diverse methods for azetidine synthesis are still limited and challenging. Herein, we design a new class of 1-azabicyclo[1.1.0]butanes (ABBs) and report the first electrochemical protocol for…
  • Silk Sericin Functionalized with Carboxy Drugs for Dermocosmetic Applications. [Journal Article]
    ACS Appl Bio Mater. 2026 May 04; 9(9):4091-4101.Argenziano R, Balestrino A, … Napolitano AAA
  • Silk sericin protein, a textile industry by-product showing no toxicity on oral/topical administration, has recently been exploited as a drug delivery system. The high serine content in sericin makes its functionalization through covalent ester-type bonds feasible; however, only in a few cases have covalent conjugates of sericin with the drug to be delivered been developed. In this paper, we repo…
  • Naproxen and Ibuprofen Exposure Alter the Blood-Testis Barrier in a Novel In Vitro Model. [Journal Article]
Int J Mol Sci. 2026 Mar 26; 27(7).Crow KMS, Cho IK, … Easley CAIJ
  • Semen parameters, including sperm counts, have rapidly declined in men across the globe over the last five decades. Although this decline remains unexplained, lifestyle factors may affect male fertility. Recently, several studies highlighted a potential link between non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) usage, such as naproxen and ibuprofen, and declining male fertility. However, the mecha…
  • Naproxen and ampicillin degradation by the Ascomycota fungi Penicillium and Aspergillus. [Journal Article]
Lett Appl Microbiol. 2026 Apr 06; 79(4).Porras-Garcia MS, Paz-González AD, … Rivera GLA
  • The global population has increased the use of pharmaceutical compounds, emerging as contaminants. Due to their persistence in the environment, pharmaceutical residues have been detected in water and soil sources, causing adverse effects on ecosystems. Therefore, methods and techniques are necessary to degrade this pollution. An environmentally sustainable option is fungal remediation, which can …
