- Metoclopramide-Induced Akathisia Mimicking Seizure With Transient Lactic Acidosis. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e106911.C
- Metoclopramide is a commonly used antiemetic associated with extrapyramidal side effects, including akathisia. Although typically mild, severe presentations may mimic neurologic emergencies. We present an 81-year-old male with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) admitted for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) pneumonia who developed acute severe akathisia after a single dose of metoclopra…

- Effects of 4-position substitutions of diphenidine on blood-brain barrier penetration and dopamine release in the nucleus accumbens of rats. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that 4MeO-DPD and 4OH-DPD strongly elicit dopamine release compared with DPD. These findings show that P-gp regulates BBB penetration, offering important insights for the toxicological risk assessment for newly emerging NPS.

- Proof of Concept for a Controlled Raman-Compatible Skin-Mimicking Hydrogel Substrate for Chemical Imaging Technique Development. [Journal Article]Molecules. 2026 May 05; 31(9).M
- The quality of Surface-Enhanced Raman Chemical Imaging (SER-CI) rely on several parameters, among which the uniform deposition of metallic nanoparticles impacts greatly the result. Optimizing deposition protocols for biological samples is challenging due to inherent spatial heterogeneity, preventing the distinction between deposition artefacts and true analyte distribution. However, to optimize t…

- Psilocybin in the Treatment of Cocaine Use Disorder: A Randomized Clinical Trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]JAMA Netw Open. 2026 May 01; 9(5):e2611029.JN
- CONCLUSIONS: In this randomized clinical trial, psilocybin appeared to be safe and efficacious for treating cocaine use disorder among individuals from underrepresented and vulnerable populations. Further research is warranted to replicate and expand these findings.

- Comparative Effectiveness of Pharmacological and Non-Pharmacological Interventions for Nausea and Vomiting in Pregnancy: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis. [Systematic Review]Nutrients. 2026 Apr 20; 18(8).N
- Background: Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy affects up to 80% of pregnant women and may progress to hyperemesis gravidarum, leading to maternal morbidity and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Despite numerous pharmacological and non-pharmacological options, the comparative efficacy and safety of these interventions remain unclear. Methods: We conducted a systematic review and network meta-analysis of …

- Segmental Hair Analysis of Diphenhydramine and Cyclizine Following a Single Dose. [Journal Article]Drug Test Anal. 2026 May 03. [Online ahead of print]DT
- Diphenhydramine and cyclizine are over-the-counter (in many countries) antihistamines that have considerable sedative effects. Therefore, they can be used in drug-facilitated crimes to incapacitate victims. There is a knowledge gap regarding detection possibilities and concentration levels of these antihistamines in hair. This study aimed to investigate whether a single dose of diphenhydramine an…

- Two‑stage diphenhydramine improves early recovery in women after video‑assisted thoracoscopic surgery: a randomized controlled trial. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Adding a two-stage diphenhydramine regimen to TPVB-based multimodal analgesia significantly improves early recovery quality, enhances postoperative sleep, and reduces vomiting in women after VATS, without increasing adverse events.

- Clinical predictors of repeat intramuscular medication administration for acute agitation: A retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]Gen Hosp Psychiatry. 2026 Apr 24; 100:234-240. [Online ahead of print]GH
- CONCLUSIONS: Repeat IM medication for acute agitation is common and appears to be driven primarily by patient-level factors rather than choice of antipsychotic agent. These findings highlight the importance of underlying illness severity and agitation phenotype in determining treatment response. Identifying patients at higher risk for escalation may inform targeted management strategies and resource allocation in acute psychiatric care settings.

- Analyzing Incidence and Risk Factors for Delirium in Non-Intensive Care Pediatric Patients. [Journal Article]Hosp Pediatr. 2026 May 01; 16(5):446-453.HP
- CONCLUSIONS: Approximately one-third of patients who screened positive for delirium on the pediatric medical floor had symptoms consistent with delirium. Sepsis, LOS greater than 5 days, and exposures to specific sedatives and antihistamines are risk factors for developing delirium. Future research may focus on improving screening and understanding the role of risk factors in delirium.

- Efficacy and outcomes of pharmacological treatments for headaches after traumatic brain injury: A systematic review. [Systematic Review]Cephalalgia. 2026 Apr; 46(4):3331024261441563.C
- BackgroundHeadache following traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a common, yet disabling, disorder with diverse mechanisms and treatment needs that remain poorly defined. Pharmacological regimens are the primary source of remedies for individuals with post-traumatic headaches (PTH). The main objective of this review is to describe the efficacy of pharmacological medications for the treatment of PTH w…

- Acute Laryngeal Dystonia Following Haloperidol Administration: Early Recognition Prevents Intubation. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Mar; 18(3):e105248.C
- Acute laryngeal dystonia (ALD) is a rare but potentially fatal extrapyramidal adverse effect of high-dose antipsychotic medications like haloperidol. It presents with sudden contraction of laryngeal muscles that causes narrowing of the airway, which rapidly progresses to respiratory failure if not promptly recognized. We report a 45-year-old male patient with schizophrenia who developed respirato…

- Randomized controlled trial of intravenous dexamethasone to prevent relapse in the treatment of migraine in a pediatric emergency department. [Journal Article]Headache. 2026 Apr 03. [Online ahead of print]H
- CONCLUSIONS: In this small clinical trial of children and adolescents with acute migraine attack treated in the ED, adjunctive dexamethasone did not reduce relapse rates nor improve functional outcomes compared with placebo. Although limited by low statistical power, these findings raise questions about the routine use of dexamethasone in migraine management of children and adolescents.

- pH influences on kinetics, bioconcentration, and internal disposition of diphenhydramine, a weakly basic pharmaceutical, in signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus). [Journal Article]Environ Toxicol Chem. 2026 Apr 02. [Online ahead of print]ET
- Identification of bioaccumulative chemicals has largely relied on models and empirical data describing bioaccumulation of nonionizable organic chemicals in fish, but bioaccumulation research has remained understudied in other aquatic taxa, particularly for ionizable organic chemicals. We examined the influences of pH on uptake and elimination kinetics, bioconcentration factors, and internal dispo…

- Apixaban-induced anaphylaxis. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Mar 31; 19(3).BC
- Anaphylaxis is a rarely reported yet potentially fatal adverse effect of apixaban. This case involves a patient in her 60s who presented with left leg swelling and was diagnosed with bilateral deep vein thrombosis. Less than an hour after ingestion of therapeutically indicated apixaban, she experienced dyspnoea, hypoxia, hypotension and an urticarial rash. She was promptly treated with epinephrin…
