- Coexistence of bla NDM-1 and bla IMP-4 in an IncHI5 plasmid harbored by carbapenem- resistant Raoultella ornithinolytica. [Journal Article]Front Microbiol. 2026; 17:1744139.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: This study is the first to report an IncHI5 plasmid co-harboring bla NDM-1 and bla IMP-4 in R. ornithinolytica. Non-transferable plasmids may serve as reservoirs or initial carriers for antibiotic resistance genes. Our findings highlights the importance of mobile genetic elements in the formation of multidrug resistance.

- Epidemiological characteristics and non-linear risk factors of surgical site infections in patients with cancer: a propensity score-matched case-control study. [Journal Article]Infect Prev Pract. 2026 Jun; 8(2):100537.IP
- CONCLUSIONS: In cancer patients, SSI is mainly caused by Gram-negative bacteria resistant to ampicillin and cephalosporins. Risk factors included higher BMI, prolonged surgery, and postoperative antibiotic use, whereas pre-operative antibiotic therapy on the day of surgery and elective surgery was protective. A non-linear relationship was observed between SSI risk and pre-operative WBC counts. These findings inform prevention strategies but require validation in multi-centre prospective studies.

- A landscape of epidemiology and strain distribution of Nocardia in China. [Journal Article]Biosaf Health. 2026 Apr; 8(2):124-134.BH
- Nocardiosis is an uncommon infection that can cause severe damage or be life-threatening. However, the epidemiology and strain distribution of nocardiosis in China remain poorly characterized. In this study, a comprehensive literature search was conducted using the keyword "('Nocardia' OR 'Nocardiosis') AND ('China' OR 'Chinese')" in PubMed and Web of Science, and "(Nuokajun) OR (Nukajun)" in the…

- Evaluating the efficacy of ceftazidime/avibactam plus amikacin combination therapy as a carbapenem-sparing agent against ceftazidime/avibactam-resistant Escherichia coli using a hollow fiber infection model: a proof-of-concept study. [Journal Article]Antimicrob Agents Chemother. 2026 May 06; :e0137725. [Online ahead of print]AA
- Carbapenems, often regarded as the last line of defense in treatment of urinary tract infections and urosepsis caused by Escherichia coli, are under pressure from emerging resistance. Thus, it is necessary to investigate carbapenem-sparing agents to mitigate the dissemination of carbapenem resistance. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of ceftazidime/avibactam plus amikacin combinat…

- Multipronged management of chronic non-healing venous leg ulcers using advanced wound dressings and patient-centered care: a case report. [Journal Article]J Med Case Rep. 2026 May 05. [Online ahead of print]JM
- CONCLUSIONS: This case demonstrates that a multipronged outpatient approach combining targeted antimicrobial therapy, bioactive collagen-nanosilver wound dressings, nutritional optimization, and patient and caregiver education can result in full healing of chronic, infected venous ulcers while reducing the need for inpatient care. It also raises the hypothesis that chronic systemic inflammation from long-standing ulcers may predispose to metabolic dysfunction. Further prospective studies are needed to explore this potential link and to evaluate the reproducibility and cost-effectiveness of such multidisciplinary interventions in chronic wound management.

- A 76-year-old man with pancreatic cancer was readmitted in septic shock due to a recrudescent liver abscess, previously treated with cefepime for four weeks. While only Klebsiella pneumoniae (KP) without acquired resistance was initially isolated from liver abscess cultures, both carbapenem-susceptible KP (CSKP) and carbapenem-resistant KP (CRKP) were identified from liver abscess and blood cultu…

- In October 2025, an outbreak occurred among farmed Chinese rice-field eels (Monopterus albus) in Jiangxi, China. A Nocardia seriolae strain designated JXMa251025, which has not been previously documented in Chinese rice-field eels, was isolated from moribund fish exhibiting multiple white nodules of various sizes in visceral tissues. Histopathological examination revealed multi-organ damage, incl…

- Phenotypic Detection of Antimicrobial Resistance Patterns in Microorganisms Isolated From the Primary Molars of Pediatric Dental Patients Undergoing Pulp Therapy. [Journal Article]Cureus. 2026 Mar; 18(3):e106128.C
- Background Pulp necrosis is a prevalent complication following dental caries in primary dentition. Certain bacteria exhibit increased adaptability to adverse conditions and possess virulence factors that enable more effective colonization of dental tissues. The invasion of the root canal system (RCS) by pathogenic microorganisms, compounded by the rising concern of antimicrobial resistance (AMR),…

- CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the genomic diversity and resistance profiles of V. cholerae in Jiaxing. The identification of a potentially virulent, multidrug-resistant O139 strain underscores the need for continuous genomic surveillance to monitor the emergence of toxigenic lineages and horizontal gene transfer.

- Prevalence and antimicrobial resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from endotracheal aspirates in a tertiary-care intensive care unit from South India. [Journal Article]Front Microbiol. 2026; 17:1784001.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: MDR Acinetobacter baumannii is highly prevalent in intensive care units in this setting and shows extensive resistance to carbapenems, fluoroquinolones, and other commonly used agents. Although amikacin demonstrated comparatively better in vitro activity and the highest AUC, its modest discriminatory performance indicates limited reliability as monotherapy. These findings support the use of ICU-specific susceptibility data from endotracheal aspirates to guide empirical therapy and highlight the need for targeted stewardship interventions in high-burden critical care units.
