- Multidrug-resistant Enterobacterales causing wound infections in Ibadan, Nigeria: Phenotypic resistance and detection of bla KPC, bla OXA-48, and mcr genes. [Journal Article]IJID Reg. 2026 Sep; 20:100952.IR
- CONCLUSIONS: MDR-Enterobacterales account for about a quarter of the etiological agents of wound infections, with major implications for surgical site infections, as their extensive resistance profiles threaten the effectiveness of empirical therapy, increase the risk of treatment-refractory postoperative infections, and facilitate rapid hospital spread. The detection of Enterobacterales of critical priority carrying colistin- and carbapenem-resistance genes underscores the need for local genomic surveillance to monitor and control their spread; coordinated health system planning to ensure sustained access to effective antibiotics; strengthening infection prevention and control practices; improving antimicrobial stewardship; and implementing targeted patient-level risk-factor management.

- Appropriateness of surgical antibiotic prophylaxis in Spanish hospitals: a national multicentre cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]Lancet Reg Health Eur. 2026 Oct; 69:101810.LR
- While surgical antibiotic prophylaxis (SAP) is a cornerstone of preventing surgical site infections, adherence to clinical guidelines determines its effectiveness. In Spain, nationwide data on SAP appropriateness are scarce. This study evaluated prescribing practices across Spanish hospitals to assess alignment with national standards and identify factors associated with inappropriate antibiotic …

- Genomic and phenotypic characterization of mcr-9 carrying Enterobacter oligotrophicus recovered from bovine mastitis. [Journal Article]Comp Immunol Microbiol Infect Dis. 2026 Aug 20; 129:102515. [Online ahead of print]CI
- Bovine mastitis (BM) is a leading cause of economic loss in the dairy industry, driven by decreased milk yields, involuntary culling, and substantial veterinary costs. A single Gram-negative isolate recovered from BM was characterized in this study. For this, antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) was performed using the Neg-Urine-Combo 98 panel. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) was employed to …

- Molecular Insights Into the Phylogenetic Diversity, Virulence Determinants, and Antimicrobial Resistance Pattern of Escherichia coli From Milk of Mastitis-Affected Cows. [Journal Article]Vet Med Int. 2026; 2026:3499907.VM
- This study examined the prevalence, molecular characterization, and antimicrobial resistance of Escherichia coli associated with the bovine clinical mastitis in the northern part of Bangladesh. A total of 120 milk samples from infected cows in Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, and Nilphamari were collected. General bacteriological and biochemical tests were conducted to isolate and identify the bacteria. In …

- Complete remission of Helicobacter pylori-negative gastric MALT lymphoma following eradication therapy: A case report. [Case Reports]Medicine (Baltimore). 2026 Aug 21; 105(34):e50407.M
- CONCLUSIONS: This case adds to the growing evidence that H pylori status alone should not preclude a trial of eradication therapy in patients with localized gastric MALT lymphoma. Potential mechanisms include the role of non-H pylori helicobacters, the direct antitumor effects of antibiotics, and immunomodulation. Larger prospective studies are needed to identify predictors of response in this population.

- Delabelling suspected amoxicillin allergy in pediatric patients using oral challenge: a retrospective study from Northwestern Ontario. [Journal Article]
- To determine the proportion of children labelled as allergic to amoxicillin who are truly allergic and to assess whether a direct oral amoxicillin challenge, without prior skin testing, is a safe and effective way to remove incorrect allergy labels in low-risk pediatric patients in Northwestern Ontario. We conducted a retrospective review of pediatric patients (6 months-15 years) referred for sus…

- BackgroundStevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) is a rare and severe drug-induced cutaneous reaction. However, clinical and economic data regarding its management remain poorly documented in Gabon. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the clinical characteristics, drug causality assessment, therapeutic management, and direct medical costs of four confirmed cases of SJS managed at the Libreville Unive…

- Spiramycin (SPR) antibiotics degradation with WO3 photocatalyst and ML XGBoost model for process parameters screening. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(8):e0354585.Plos
- The intensification of worldwide urbanization and industrial growth has led to a rise in the release of toxic substances into the environment. Antibiotics are widely used as human medicine and animal husbandry, for example annual global consumption (106 kg) of amoxicillin is 11.8, sulfamethoxazole is 2.0, tetracycline is 0.5 and spiramycin is 0.3 etc., therefore, they are often found in surface w…

- Patterns of Bacterial Infection and Antibiotic Resistance in Canine Corneal Ulcers: A Retrospective Analysis (Berlin, Germany, 2021-2024). [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Staphylococcus pseudintermedius and β-hemolytic Streptococcus were the main bacterial agents associated with infected canine corneal ulcers. The relatively high frequency of MDR isolates emphasizes the need for culture-based therapy and ongoing regional surveillance to guide empirical antibiotic use.

- The rise of multidrug-resistant microorganisms highlights the need for rapid antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) to guide early and effective therapy. This study evaluated a novel MALDI-TOF MS-based assay (MBT FAST, Bruker, Germany), which employs the direct-on-target microdroplet growth assay (DOT-MGA) for phenotypic AST. A total of 243 Enterobacteriaceae isolates representing diverse spe…

- β-Lactams are the most widely prescribed antibiotic class globally, comprising penicillins, cephalosporins, carbapenems, and monobactams. Their continual release to the environment raises concerns about both direct ecotoxicity and potential indirect effects on ecosystem function. This review highlights three key findings; 1) environmental concentrations can exceed predicted no-effect concentratio…
