- Management and perceptions of anemia and iron deficiency prior to cardiac surgery. [Journal Article]Arch Peru Cardiol Cir Cardiovasc. 2026; 7(1):1-8.AP

- Comparative Efficacy, Safety, and Quality-of-Life Outcomes of Oral Ferrous Sulfate Versus Intravenous Ferric Carboxymaltose in the Management of Iron Deficiency Anemia During Pregnancy. [Journal Article]Ann Afr Med. 2026 Jun 03. [Online ahead of print]AA
- CONCLUSIONS: IV ferric carboxymaltose provides a faster, more robust, and better-tolerated in pregnancy compared to oral ferrous sulfate. It ensures rapid Hb rise, effective repletion of iron stores, and significant improvement in patient-reported fatigue, making it a highly effective therapeutic option, particularly for women with poor oral tolerance, severe anemia, or advanced gestation.

- Characterization of anemia and its association with functional status and depression in geriatric patients with solid organ cancers. [Journal Article]Support Care Cancer. 2026 Jun 03; 34(6).SC
- CONCLUSIONS: More than half of the geriatric patients with SOC were anemic at presentation, with functional IDA being the most common subtype, followed by IDA. Anemia was significantly associated with poorer functional status, impaired mobility and balance, and higher rates of depression, underscoring its substantial impact on both the physical and psychological well-being of older patients with cancer. These findings highlight the importance of comprehensive geriatric assessment and detailed characterization of anemia subtypes, including IDA, functional IDA, possible functional IDA, and NID, as management strategies may vary according to iron status.

- Factors associated with anemia among adolescent girls in Western India: insights from a multi-centric cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]Front Glob Womens Health. 2026; 7:1793809.FG
- CONCLUSIONS: Anemia was highly prevalent among adolescent girls in Gujarat, affecting 60.85% of participants, with higher burden observed in tribal and rural populations. Significant associations were identified with socioeconomic status, health insurance coverage, knowledge levels, and iron-folic acid supplementation. Biochemical findings indicated iron deficiency with an inflammatory component, and hemoglobinopathy traits were also present among a subset of participants. These findings highlight the multifactorial nature of anemia in the study population.

- Management of iron deficiency anemia and the role of intravenous iron supplementation in patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy: a real-world retrospective study in Japan. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that anemia is highly prevalent in patients with cancer and worsens following chemotherapy. Additionally, iron parameters were rarely measured, and functional iron deficiency was frequently observed among the tested subgroup.

- [Diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for small-bowel gastrointestinal bleeding when initial upper endoscopy and colonoscopy are unremarkable]. [Journal Article]Rev Prat. 2026 May; 76(5):531-535.RP
- Suspected small bowel bleeding is defined as a gastrointestinal bleeding, overt or occult (iron-deficiency anemia), with unremarkable high-quality upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. The main causes are vascular lesions (angiodysplasia) and inflammatory lesions (Crohn's disease). Diagnosis is primarily based on capsule endoscopy, which has an optimal yield if performed within 48 hours on bleeding on…
- Causal Associations Between Three Types of Anemia and Pulmonary Tuberculosis: A Bidirectional Mendelian Randomization Study. [Journal Article]Curr Mol Med. 2026 May 23. [Online ahead of print]CM
- CONCLUSIONS: Our study is the first to explore the genetic causality between anemia and PTB, identifying PA as a significant genetic risk factor for PTB. Future studies are needed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and provide new insights into the prevention and treatment of PTB.

- Relatively high prevalence of subclinical iron deficiency in Japanese children: evidence from a preoperative screening cohort. [Journal Article]BMC Pediatr. 2026 Jun 01. [Online ahead of print]BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: Subclinical ID was common among asymptomatic Japanese children undergoing elective surgery, indicating that clinically silent iron deficiency may be present even in children who appear otherwise well. Rather than supporting surgery-based screening as a stand-alone strategy, these findings underscore the importance of careful dietary and clinical risk assessment during routine pediatric care and the need for context-sensitive approaches to early identification of children at risk for iron deficiency.

- Data requirements of an informative, directive, and preventive mobile health application for gastric cancer. [Review]Digit Health. 2026; 12:20552076261425336.DH
- CONCLUSIONS: This study presents the first comprehensive evidence-based framework for data requirements of a preventive mobile health application for gastric cancer. The proposed framework, with its focus on primary prevention and deterministic decision-making engine, offers the potential to create a conceptual infrastructure for early interventions and public health literacy enhancement. Major limitations include the conceptual nature of the design and lack of field validation. Future studies should focus on practical implementation, clinical effectiveness evaluation, user acceptance, and integration with health systems to realize the potential for reducing the burden of gastric cancer, particularly in high-prevalence regions.

- Gastric Ectopic Pancreas: A Pediatric Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e107937.C
- An ectopic pancreas is a congenital anomaly in which pancreatic glandular tissue is found outside its normal anatomical location. Specifically, while it can occur anywhere along the gastrointestinal tract, its presence in the stomach is relatively rare in children and is often asymptomatic, typically discovered incidentally. Our case involves a six-year-old child who underwent an esophagogastrodu…

- Real-World Use of Intravenous Iron Therapy and Associated Clinical Outcomes in Patients With Heart Failure and Iron Deficiency. [Journal Article]Ann Pharmacother. 2026 May 31; :10600280261452584. [Online ahead of print]AP
- CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with HFrEF and iron deficiency who received IV iron during hospitalization, improvements in anemia and iron parameters and modest increases in LVEF were observed, while rehospitalization remained common. Real-world practice was characterized by lower cumulative dosing and barriers to outpatient continuation of IV iron therapy, which may have attenuated clinical benefit. Further research should define optimal dosing, improve outpatient delivery, and clarify the role of oral iron when IV iron is unavailable or not tolerated.
