- Correlation between functional impairment and quantitative MRI assessment of ankle cartilage in chronic ankle instability. [Journal Article]Asia Pac J Sports Med Arthrosc Rehabil Technol. 2026 Jul; 45:19-25.AP
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides evidence of functional impairments and cartilage degeneration in individuals with CAI. The observed biomechanical compensations and increased cartilage T2 values may contribute to the development of CAI and potentially increase the risk of long-term joint degeneration. These valuable insights into the pathophysiology of CAI may aid in developing targeted interventions to mitigate long-term joint degeneration.

- Prevalence and Severity of Self-Assessed Hallux Valgus in Community-Dwelling Older South African and Flemish Individuals. [Journal Article]J Foot Ankle Res. 2026 Jun; 19(2):e70173.JF
- CONCLUSIONS: HV prevalence is similar in older South African and Flemish individuals, despite differing footwear habits, supporting the multifactorial nature of HV formation. These findings emphasize the need for region-specific data and clinical strategies to address HV in older populations.

- Endoscopic versus open flexor hallucis longus tendon transfer for reconstruction of chronic achilles tendon rupture: A prospective randomized pilot trial. [Journal Article]Foot Ankle Surg. 2026 May 29. [Online ahead of print]FA
- CONCLUSIONS: Both open and endoscopic FHL tendon transfer provided excellent functional outcomes in the management of chronic Achilles tendon rupture. The endoscopic technique was associated with fewer wound complications and improved early postoperative recovery, despite longer operative time.

- Radiofrequency ablation (RF), in its pulsed and thermal modalities, is a minimally invasive technique for managing refractory chronic neuropathic pain. We present the case of a 60-year-old woman with persistent pain in her left ankle following avascular necrosis of the talus treated with total ankle arthroplasty. This surgical intervention can lead to complications such as postoperative neuropath…

- Weight-Bearing Test: A Straightforward and Reliable Indicator of Stability in Supination-External Rotation Type, Weber B Ankle Fractures. [Journal Article]Clin Orthop Surg. 2026 Jun; 18(3):543-547.CO
- CONCLUSIONS: Based on these good radiographic and clinical outcomes, the WB test appears to be a simple and reliable clinical indicator for identifying stable SER/Weber B type lateral malleolar fractures that can be managed nonoperatively.

- Midterm Outcomes of 3-Component Mobile-Bearing Total Ankle Arthroplasty in 124 Ankles: Influence of Preoperative Varus, Valgus, and Neutral Alignment. [Journal Article]Clin Orthop Surg. 2026 Jun; 18(3):558-570.CO
- CONCLUSIONS: TAA can achieve favorable midterm clinical outcomes across a spectrum of preoperative coronal alignment patterns when combined with appropriate adjunctive corrective procedures. Varus deformity, including more severe forms, often requires additional correction; however, when appropriately addressed, clinical outcomes are likely to be maintained. Given the limited number of valgus ankles and the midterm follow-up duration, cautious interpretation is warranted, and further studies are needed to clarify long-term outcomes.

- Menopause and Plantar Heel Pain: Findings From a Series of Focus Groups Exploring Lived Experience. [Journal Article]J Foot Ankle Res. 2026 Jun; 19(2):e70154.JF
- CONCLUSIONS: Participants felt the relationship between menopause and PHP requires further investigation, with a focus on understanding the level of awareness of association among healthcare professionals and patients. The implementation of any findings needs to consider ethnic and cultural barriers, and those that may be present in a primary care setting.

- CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that PACT achieved significantly superior morphologic cartilage regeneration compared with BMS in OLTs at 1-year follow-up. However, the differences in clinical outcomes between the 2 treatments were not significant. Notwithstanding, additional follow-up studies are needed to assess the effects of PACT on long-term outcomes.

- Ankle Malunion: A Systematic Case-Based Approach to Treatment and a Modified Classification. [Review]Indian J Orthop. 2026 May; 60(5):1039-1045.IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: A detailed, patho-anatomy driven classification system, like the one we propose, is essential for accurate diagnosis, planning personalized surgeries, predicting outcomes, and standardizing research in this complex area; this is because every ankle malunion has unique anatomical challenges.

- Background Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction with hamstring tendon autografts is well-established, but peroneus longus autografts have emerged as a promising alternative. Optimal graft diameter is a prerequisite for knee stability and satisfactory postoperative outcomes. Attainable autograft diameter is shown to directly correlate with patient height. The relative efficacy of hamstr…

- Chromobacterium violaceum is a rare but highly virulent Gram-negative organism found in tropical and subtropical environments, associated with rapidly progressive sepsis and high mortality. Musculoskeletal involvement, particularly septic arthritis, is exceedingly uncommon. We report a case of a previously healthy 23-year-old male who presented with progressive left ankle pain, swelling, and feve…

- CONCLUSIONS: With the available sample size, no statistically significant differences in the overall complication rate were detected between well-controlled diabetic and non-diabetic patients undergoing minimally invasive hallux valgus surgery. These findings should be interpreted as exploratory and hypothesis-generating, and require confirmation in larger studies.
