  • Mpox Presenting as an Anorectal Disease: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
Cureus. 2026 Jul; 18(7):e112524.Vadukoot Lazar M, Yendluri SH, … Zacharia GSC
  • Mpox (monkeypox) is an emerging viral infection with a broad and evolving clinical spectrum that increasingly spans beyond its characteristic cutaneous manifestations. Anorectal manifestations are well recognized in patients with Mpox in recent outbreaks. However, the gastrointestinal (GI) or anorectal symptoms may precede the typical rash, creating significant diagnostic challenges and delaying …
  • Clinical and pathological outcomes of brachytherapy application for the treatment of high-grade vaginal squamous intraepithelial lesions: a systematic review. [Journal Article]
Int J Gynecol Cancer. 2026 Jul 29; :104876. [Online ahead of print]Durán Méndez CF, Mendieta Redondo JC, … Pareja RIJ
  • CONCLUSIONS: Intracavitary brachytherapy achieves high local control with low persistence, recurrence, and progression rates in women with HSIL/VaIN2-3, particularly with contemporary high-dose-rate regimens around 45 to 55 Gy Equivalent dose in 2Gy fractions (EQD2) at 3 to 5 mm depth. Given the small, noncomparative, methodologically heterogeneous series and the apparent rise in late vaginal toxicity beyond EQD2 ≈70 Gy, brachytherapy should be reserved for carefully selected extensive, multifocal, recurrent, post-hysterectomy, or surgically high-risk cases, and future prospective multicenter studies comparing brachytherapy with surgery, laser, and topical treatments and incorporating standardized dosimetry and patient-reported outcomes are warranted.
  • Systematic review of gut microbiota structural characteristics in patients with ischemic stroke. [Systematic Review]
    Front Cell Infect Microbiol. 2026; 16:1884681.Tang R, Xu Y, … Zeng LFC
  • CONCLUSIONS: Ischemic stroke is associated with distinct gut microbial dysbiosis characterized by a pro-inflammatory, opportunistic pathogen-enriched, and butyrate-producer-depleted profile. These alterations correlate with disease severity and are linked to predicted disruptions in microbial metabolic functions. However, whether this dysbiosis is a cause, consequence, or exacerbating factor of IS remains to be determined. The gut microbiota may serve as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target in ischemic stroke.
  • Mechanisms, management and prevention of anorectal sexually transmitted infections. [Review]
Nat Rev Gastroenterol Hepatol. 2026 Jul 31. [Online ahead of print]Latt PM, Kong FYS, … Chow EPFNR
  • Anorectal bacterial sexually transmitted infections, predominantly chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis, represent a substantial and evolving global health challenge, with incidence rising despite widespread testing availability. In this Review, we examine the epidemiology and burden of anorectal sexually transmitted infections, explore the pathogenic mechanisms underlying infection and discuss adv…
