  • Can non-pharmacological strategies in cancer patients support perceived appetite? A scoping review. [Review]
Support Care Cancer. 2026 May 19; 34(6).Holst JP, Christensen ME, … Tobberup RSC
  • CONCLUSIONS: Structured, actively guided, and repeated non-pharmacological interventions show potential to improve perceived appetite in cancer patients, whereas brief or passive interventions appear less effective. Findings suggest that appetite support operates primarily through indirect psychological, sensory, and behavioral pathways, as captured in a conceptual framework. Further research should develop and evaluate well-defined, mechanism-informed interventions.
  • Nutrition rehabilitation programs and cachexia clinics for anorexia-cachexia syndrome in patients with cancer. [Review]
    Oncologist. 2026 Feb 05; 31(3).Dev R, Kadakia KC, … Del Fabbro EO
  • The anorexia-cachexia syndrome (ACS) is characterized by loss of appetite and unintentional weight loss. Important clinical outcomes are associated with ACS including increased risk of chemotherapy side effects, decreased survival, and quality of life. Because ACS is driven by complex metabolic mechanisms and a chronic pro-inflammatory response, the weight loss and muscle wasting cannot be revers…
  • Tumor-immune-neural circuit disrupts energy homeostasis in cancer cachexia. [Journal Article]
    Cancer Cell. 2026 May 11; 44(5):949-964.e6.Shi X, Arreola AX, … Li MCC
  • Cancer-induced cachexia and anorexia are debilitating complications across many cancers, yet effective treatments remain limited due to a poor understanding of the underlying mechanisms. Here, we identify an uncharacterized tumor-immune-neural circuit driving these syndromes, centered on growth and differentiation factor 15 (GDF15). Using genetically engineered mouse models, we find that loss of …
  • [Malnutrition in older adults]. [Review]
Assist Inferm Ric. 2025; 44(4):173-180.A cura della RedazioneAI
  • . Malnutrition in older adults. Malnutrition in older adults is a multifactorial condition with serious health and social consequences. Physiological changes such as reduced appetite, impaired taste and smell, and slower gastrointestinal signaling contribute to the "anorexia of aging." Physical impairments, including poor oral health, chewing and swallowing difficulties, and mobility limitations,…
  • New models for cancer cachexia and their application to drug discovery. [Review]
Expert Opin Drug Discov. 2025 Nov; 20(11):1433-1445.Sato R, Anker MS, … von Haehling SEO
  • Cancer cachexia (CC) is a multifactorial syndrome characterized by progressive weight loss, anorexia, and loss of skeletal muscle and fat mass, resulting in reduced quality of life and poor prognosis. Currently, there are no approved pharmacological treatments for CC, highlighting the urgent need for developing novel experimental models.
  • Cachexia in mice blunts improved cognitive flexibility induced by calorie restriction. [Journal Article]
Brain Behav Immun. 2025 Nov; 130:106123.Conn K, Milton LK, … Lockie SHBB
  • Approximately 50-80 % of cancer patients suffer from cachexia, a metabolic syndrome involving inflammation, appetite loss, and muscle and fat wasting. Another common co-morbidity of cancer patients is cognitive impairment, and clinical evidence suggests the incidence of cachexia is linked to more severe cognitive symptoms. Given the difficulty of studying changes in cognitive function in human ca…
  • Fu's subcutaneous needling for chronic gastritis with observations on serum gastric function indices: A case report. [Case Reports]
    Medicine (Baltimore). 2025 Jul 18; 104(29):e43438.Shi J, Zhang Z, … Yu HM
  • CONCLUSIONS: FSN has been demonstrated to significantly alleviate epigastric discomfort associated with CG and to have a positive impact on appetite, sleep quality, and bowel movements. Moreover, FSN demonstrates a significant and sustained improvement in serum gastric function indices, with no observed relapse. However, due to the limitations inherent in a single clinical observation case, further randomized controlled clinical trials are warranted.
  • A case report of liver failure caused by Tetrastigma hemsleyanum Diels et Gilg: A rare case report and literature review. [Case Reports]
    Medicine (Baltimore). 2025 Mar 28; 104(13):e42059.Liu Y, Zhou X, … Liu MWM
  • CONCLUSIONS: The possibility of liver failure following the use of T hemsleyanum Diels et Gilg should be considered. When patients present with symptoms such as fat intolerance, xanthochromia, poor appetite, nausea, and dark urine after consuming this herb, liver function tests should be promptly conducted to exclude the possibility of drug-induced liver injury. T hemsleyanum Diels et Gilg has the potential to induce liver failure. Liver-protective measures, including nutritional support, proved to be effective in managing the condition.
