- Elucidation of the interaction between apo-transferrin and indisulam via multi-spectroscopic techniques and molecular modeling. [Journal Article]Spectrochim Acta A Mol Biomol Spectrosc. 2025 Apr 05; 330:125652.SA
- Apo-transferrin (apo-TRF) is a vital protein for maintaining iron balance in the body, which is produced by the liver. Indisulam (IDM) has been extensively used to treat cancer in clinical study and has been identified as a molecular glue. Iron imbalances in the body are believed to encourage the growth and spread of cancer cells. Thus, understanding the interactions between apo-TRF and IDM may s…

- Decreased Serum Apolipoprotein CIII in the Acute Phase of Kawasaki Disease. [Journal Article]
- Plasma exchange is an effective treatment for Kawasaki disease (KD), suggesting that plasma from patients with KD bears its causative agents. The aim of this study was to use mass spectrometry to identify candidate agents in patient sera. Serum samples were obtained from 17 KD patients. In six patients, samples were collected in each of three phases: the acute phase prior to acetylsalicylic acid …

- A prospective, randomised, single-blinded controlled trial comparing ultrasound versus nerve stimulator guidance for interscalene block for ambulatory upper limb surgeries. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Ultrasound use offers faster onset, longer duration of block, reduces time for performance of blocks with comparable complication rates. For most of the measured parameters it was superior but more costly than nerve stimulator for directly measured costs.

- Malachite Green, the hazardous materials that can bind to Apo-transferrin and change the iron transfer. [Journal Article]
- Different groups of synthetic dyes might lead to environmental pollution. The binding affinity among hazardous materials with biomolecules necessitates a detailed understanding of their binding properties. Malachite Green might induce a change in the iron transfer by Apo-transferrin. Spectroscopic studies showed malachite green oxalate (MGO) could form the apo-transferrin-MGO complex and change t…

- Systemic lupus erythematosus and pregnancy: A retrospective single-center study of 215 pregnancies from Portugal. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Pregnancy in an SLE patient is associated with an increased incidence of adverse obstetric outcomes. Good disease control before pregnancy and adequate treatment, especially with HCQ, is crucial to achieving the best obstetric results.

- A Comparison Between Gore Cardioform and Amplatzer Septal Occluder for Percutaneous Closure of Patent Foramen Ovale Associated With Atrial Septal Aneurysm: Clinical and Echocardiographic Outcomes. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: GSO and APO devices appear to be safe and effective devices for the percutaneous closure of a PFO with ASA, showing similar results for the presence of rRLS at the 6-month follow-up, complete occlusion rate, and clinical embolic recurrences.
- Linking meta-omics to the kinetics of denitrification intermediates reveals pH-dependent causes of N2O emissions and nitrite accumulation in soil. [Journal Article]
- Soil pH is a key controller of denitrification. We analysed the metagenomics/transcriptomics and phenomics of two soils from a long-term liming experiment, SoilN (pH 6.8) and un-limed SoilA (pH 3.8). SoilA had severely delayed N2O reduction despite early transcription of nosZ (mainly clade I), encoding N2O reductase, by diverse denitrifiers. This shows that post-transcriptionally hampered maturat…

- Enhancement of immune proteins expression in skin mucus of Japanese flounder Paralicthys olivaceus upon feeding a diet supplemented with high concentration of ascorbic acid. [Journal Article]
- To search immune defense proteins in skin mucus of Japanese flounder fed with a diet containing high concentration of ascorbic acid, we carried out 2D-PAGE and compared the resolved pattern of proteins between control group that fed commercial diet and ascorbic acid supplemented group (AsA group) fed a diet supplemented with high concentration of ascorbic acid (2,000 mg/kg) for 7 days. The result…

- Enzymatic characterization and crystal structure analysis of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii dehydroascorbate reductase and their implications for oxidative stress. [Journal Article]
- Dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR) is a key enzyme for glutathione (GSH)-dependent reduction of dehydroascorbate (DHA) to recycled ascorbate (AsA) in plants, and plays a major role against the toxicity of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Previously, we proposed that the increase of AsA regeneration via enhanced DHAR activity modulates the ascorbate-glutathione cycle activity against photooxidative s…

- Apoliprotein E genotype is associated with apoliprotein B plasma levels but not with coronary calcium score in very elderly individuals in primary care setting. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The study suggests a possible atherogenic role of the ε4 allele attributable to increased ApoB levels and ApoB/ApoA ratios among very-old subjects in primary care setting.

- PP149. Hypertensive risk factors: Do they influence pregnancy outcome in women affected by new onset pre-eclampsia? [Journal Article]Pregnancy Hypertens. 2012 Jul; 2(3):319-20.PH
- CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that a positive history for PE and/or CH does not influence clinical outcome in women affected by PE. This result could be explained by the administration of prophylactic ASA 100mg oid in this group of patients.
