  • Acetazolamide-Induced Bilateral Uveal Effusions and Secondary Angle Closure: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
    Case Rep Ophthalmol. 2026 Jan-Dec; 17(1):396-401.Braue K, Martin K, Fogel Tempelhof OCR
  • CONCLUSIONS: Given the widespread use of acetazolamide in ophthalmology and other medical disciplines, clinicians must be aware of potentially sight-threatening drug reactions. Prescription of acetazolamide for altitude sickness prophylaxis represents a unique risk, as patients are likely to be travelling to remote destinations. First-time dosing should occur where urgent medical assessment is readily accessible.
  • CACNA1A c.5610del in a three-generation family: epilepsy with ataxia/migraine. [Journal Article]
BMC Neurol. 2026 May 01. [Online ahead of print]Long Z, Gong S, … Yu JBN
  • CONCLUSIONS: This pedigree supports Cav2.1 loss-of-function presenting with epilepsy, EA2, and FHM features plus BPPV. Within this family, clinical expression to date appears female-skewed while male carriers remained asymptomatic at last follow-up; this observation is hypothesis-generating. Mechanism-aware ASM selection and structured family counselling may aid management; larger cohorts and functional studies are needed.
  • Noncardiogenic pulmonary edema triggered by acetazolamide, a rare complication of acetazolamide challenge test. [Journal Article]
J Cerebrovasc Endovasc Neurosurg. 2026 Apr 30. [Online ahead of print]Lee SJ, Son S, Kim JJC
  • The acetazolamide challenge test is frequently performed to evaluate cerebral blood flow and reserve capacity in cerebrovascular disease. Most of its side effects are mild and transient. Acute pulmonary edema (PE) has never been reported to occur after acetazolamide challenge tests. Here, we present a case of acute noncardiogenic PE triggered by an acetazolamide challenge test. A 62-year-old man …
  • Intracranial hypertension: the hidden risk of supplements containing vitamin A. [Journal Article]
Pract Neurol. 2026 Apr 28. [Online ahead of print]Dennis MH, Goldring M, Chapman JFPN
  • Hypervitaminosis A is relatively uncommon but may develop with excessive supplementation or medication use. We report a 17-year-old non-obese male presenting with symptomatic papilloedema and normal neuroimaging. Investigations excluded alternative causes, but a detailed history identified that he used a protein supplement containing significant amounts of vitamin A. Although there are potential …
  • Structural optimization of anti-hypoxic candidates guided by FGF21 and GDF15 mRNA expression. [Journal Article]
    Eur J Med Chem. 2026 Apr 25; 313:118897. [Online ahead of print]Yin L, Gao J, … He XEJ
  • Therapeutics for acute mountain sickness (AMS) remain limited, with no new drugs introduced since acetazolamide over half a century ago. Recently, H0802, whose target protein was unknown, was an FGF21 and GDF15 mRNA Expression regulator with promising anti-hypoxic effects. Given that FGF21 and GDF15 have been identified as key factors in hypoxia-related metabolic reprogramming, this study propose…
