  • Free-Energy Landscapes of HBV Hexamer Closure Reveal Key Structural Features of the Transition. [Journal Article]
    J Chem Theory Comput. 2026 May 04. [Online ahead of print]Fan Z, Pavlova A, … Gumbart JCJC
  • Chronic infection with the hepatitis B virus (HBV) remains a major global health burden and depends on efficient viral replication, including the assembly of the viral capsid during the HBV life cycle. Capsid assembly proceeds through transient oligomeric intermediates, among which the formation of hexameric units is thought to underlie the energetic bottleneck associated with nucleation during c…
  • Transporter-Mediated Hepatic Uptake of EOB-DTPA and BOPTA Is Largely Independent of Chelated Metal. [Journal Article]
Mol Imaging Biol. 2026 May 04. [Online ahead of print]Kenney LE, Mallett CL, … Shapiro EMMI
  • CONCLUSIONS: Within the class of trivalent metals examined and for EOB-DTPA and BOPTA chelates, transporter-mediated uptake, biodistribution, and clearance were largely independent of metal identity under the conditions tested. These findings support the use of common chelate scaffolds across multiple metals, while highlighting the importance of ligand structure and transporter interactions in governing pharmacology.
  • Dynamic monomer-dimer transition regulates DNA-guided RNA cleavage by MbpAgo. [Journal Article]
Nat Commun. 2026 May 04. [Online ahead of print]Zhao X, Yang W, … Li SNC
  • Prokaryotic Argonaute proteins (pAgos) are nucleic acid-guided endonucleases with diverse functions. Mucilaginibacter paludis Argonaute (MbpAgo) is unusual in using guide DNA (gDNA) to cleave target RNA (tgRNA), but the structural basis for this activity has been unclear. Here we present cryo-electron microscopy structures of MbpAgo in apo, binary, and ternary states at up to 2.55 Å resolution. T…
  • Time-resolved tmFRET reveals GTP-coupled conformational changes in Mfn1. [Journal Article]
J Cell Biol. 2026 Jul 06; 225(7).Hurwitz SM, Zagotta WN, … Hoppins SJC
  • Outer mitochondrial membrane fusion is mediated by the mitofusin paralogs Mfn1 and Mfn2. Nucleotide-driven self-assembly and conformational changes are required for regulated membrane fusion activity, but the allosteric mechanisms remain enigmatic due to incomplete structural information. In this study, we investigate the GTP-coupled conformational dynamics of Mfn1 using time-resolved transition …
  • Conformational Ensembles of the Disordered 4E-BP2:eIF4E Complex Restrained by smFRET Experiments. [Journal Article]
bioRxiv. 2026 Apr 24.Smyth S, Liu ZH, … Gradinaru CCB
  • Eukaryotic cap-dependent translation initiation is regulated by binding of the predominantly folded eukaryotic initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) to the intrinsically disordered eIF4E binding proteins (4E-BPs). Here, we report full-length atomistic conformational ensembles generated by IDPConformerGenerator and optimized by X-EISDv2 workflow for both apo 4E-BP2, the neuronal 4E-BP, and 4E-BP2 in comple…
  • Exploring cardiometabolic markers in adverse pregnancy outcomes: insights from the GROWell study. [Journal Article]
Res Sq. 2026 Apr 23.Kuodza GE, Keeton VF, … Simmons LARS
  • Women with pre-pregnancy overweight or obesity are at increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) and postpartum weight retention (PPWR). We examined which lipid classes were associated with APO and PPWR during pregnancy and postpartum using a subsample from a clinical trial. Data were collected via questionnaires, electronic health records, and participant-collected dried blood spots at …
  • Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes with Co-Occurring Opioid and Stimulant Use Disorders. [Journal Article]
    J Clin Med. 2026 Apr 08; 15(8).Schroeder AR, Al-Hammadi N, … Chavan NRJC
  • Background/Objectives: Substance use disorder (SUD) in pregnancy is an increasingly complex public health challenge that is known to worsen maternal and neonatal outcomes. Rates of polysubstance use are steadily rising. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of co-occurring opioid and stimulant use disorder on adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) among inpatient pregnancy hospitalizati…
  • Lipid bilayers determine allostery but not intrinsic affinity of cAMP to pacemaker channels. [Journal Article]
Nat Commun. 2026 May 02. [Online ahead of print]Idikuda V, Roy Chowdhury S, … Chanda BNC
  • The binding of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) to hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) ion channels regulates cardiac pacemaking but key aspects of the mechanism of ligand-dependent regulation remain unresolved. Here, we examine the role of the lipid environment by reconstituting purified human HCN channels into lipid nanodiscs and measuring successive cAMP binding to s…
  • Stabilizing Plasmodium falciparum proteins for small molecule drug discovery. [Journal Article]
    Protein Sci. 2026 Jun; 35(6):e70614.Amann M, Sträβer T, … Günther SPS
  • Early-stage drug discovery relies on the availability of stable protein for reliable biophysical characterization of ligand binding. However, many Plasmodium falciparum proteins are challenging to produce in heterologous systems, which limits their experimental utility. To address this, we tested whether ProteinMPNN-guided sequence design could generate stabilized surrogate constructs that retain…
