  • Status epilepticus in male and female patients: Clinical presentation, management, and outcomes. [Journal Article]
    Seizure. 2026 May 16; 139:163-169. [Online ahead of print]Winkel J, Jünemann C, … Möller LS
  • CONCLUSIONS: Sex-specific differences in presentation and diagnostic work-up of SE were observed, while in-hospital treatment was largely comparable between sexes. Although outcome differences were seen in unadjusted analyses, these were not independent after adjustment for key confounders. Overall, these findings suggest that observed disparities are primarily driven by clinical and demographic factors rather than sex itself.
  • Management of catatonia in Huntington disease: A scoping review. [Review]
    Gen Hosp Psychiatry. 2026 May 09; 101:39-44. [Online ahead of print]Miglis G, Kadan J, … Munjal SGH
  • CONCLUSIONS: This review highlights the rarity and complexity of catatonia in HD and underscores the need for greater clinical awareness. ECT appears effective for many patients, but individualized treatment plans are essential. Further research is needed to clarify diagnostic criteria, underlying mechanisms, and long-term management strategies.
  • Voluntarily Stopping Eating and Drinking (VSED) with Hospice Support in America: A Case Series. [Journal Article]
J Pain Symptom Manage. 2026 May 17. [Online ahead of print]Wechkin HA, Loggers ETJP
  • CONCLUSIONS: While this study has significant limitations, VSED was completed by all who initiated the process and death generally occurred within 10 days. Therefore, those initiating VSED should be considered eligible for hospice care, with care initiated quickly. Symptoms during VSED were typical of hospice patients and can be managed using common hospice techniques and medications.
  • Optimizing Levetiracetam Dosage in Status Epilepticus: A Retrospective Cohort Study. [Journal Article]
Neurologist. 2026 May 01. [Online ahead of print]Bendock EL, Medenwald BL, … Hamilton LAN
  • CONCLUSIONS: After logistic regression, the loading dose of LEV did not change the need for additional ASM to control seizures in SE. Further investigations evaluating the efficacy of 20 mg/kg compared with 60 mg/kg are needed; however, this study found no difference in seizure control between the groups.

  • Benzodiazepines are commonly prescribed psychotropic drugs with anxiolytic, sedating, hypnotic, and anticonvulsant effects. They impair saccadic eye movements in prosaccade tasks, particularly peak velocity, but the extent of the effects on different saccadic parameters remains unclear. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analyses on the effects of different benzodiazepines on pe…
