- Lorazepam-induced full resolution of catatonia and psychosis in Parkinson's disease with acromegaly: a case report. [Case Reports]Front Psychiatry. 2026; 17:1806346.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the importance of recognizing catatonia and psychosis as possible complications of PD, especially in the context of medication withdrawal and comorbid acromegaly. These neuropsychiatric symptoms were successfully resolved by lorazepam, demonstrating the medication's effectiveness in treating complex co-occurring disorders.

- Status epilepticus in male and female patients: Clinical presentation, management, and outcomes. [Journal Article]Seizure. 2026 May 16; 139:163-169. [Online ahead of print]S
- CONCLUSIONS: Sex-specific differences in presentation and diagnostic work-up of SE were observed, while in-hospital treatment was largely comparable between sexes. Although outcome differences were seen in unadjusted analyses, these were not independent after adjustment for key confounders. Overall, these findings suggest that observed disparities are primarily driven by clinical and demographic factors rather than sex itself.

- Management of catatonia in Huntington disease: A scoping review. [Review]Gen Hosp Psychiatry. 2026 May 09; 101:39-44. [Online ahead of print]GH
- CONCLUSIONS: This review highlights the rarity and complexity of catatonia in HD and underscores the need for greater clinical awareness. ECT appears effective for many patients, but individualized treatment plans are essential. Further research is needed to clarify diagnostic criteria, underlying mechanisms, and long-term management strategies.

- Voluntarily Stopping Eating and Drinking (VSED) with Hospice Support in America: A Case Series. [Journal Article]J Pain Symptom Manage. 2026 May 17. [Online ahead of print]JP
- CONCLUSIONS: While this study has significant limitations, VSED was completed by all who initiated the process and death generally occurred within 10 days. Therefore, those initiating VSED should be considered eligible for hospice care, with care initiated quickly. Symptoms during VSED were typical of hospice patients and can be managed using common hospice techniques and medications.

- Utility of Continuous Glucose Monitoring in the Management of a Suicide Attempt in a Patient With Comorbid Type 2 Diabetes and Major Depressive Disorder. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e107040.C
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a highly prevalent chronic disease. In patients with comorbid psychiatric disorders, insulin may become a means of suicide due to its potentially lethal effects when overdosed. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems have proven effective for glycemic control, but their role in suicide prevention is less explored. We report the case of a 68-year-old woman with type…

- Optimizing Levetiracetam Dosage in Status Epilepticus: A Retrospective Cohort Study. [Journal Article]Neurologist. 2026 May 01. [Online ahead of print]N
- CONCLUSIONS: After logistic regression, the loading dose of LEV did not change the need for additional ASM to control seizures in SE. Further investigations evaluating the efficacy of 20 mg/kg compared with 60 mg/kg are needed; however, this study found no difference in seizure control between the groups.

- Metoclopramide-Induced Akathisia Mimicking Seizure With Transient Lactic Acidosis. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e106911.C
- Metoclopramide is a commonly used antiemetic associated with extrapyramidal side effects, including akathisia. Although typically mild, severe presentations may mimic neurologic emergencies. We present an 81-year-old male with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) admitted for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) pneumonia who developed acute severe akathisia after a single dose of metoclopra…

- Case Report: Early onset pulmonary embolism following antipsychotic polypharmacy in an acute psychiatric setting. [Case Reports]Front Psychiatry. 2026; 17:1819958.FP
- Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a potentially life-threatening condition that may occur in patients receiving antipsychotic medication. Several studies have shown an increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) associated with the use of antipsychotics, particularly during the first weeks or months of treatment. However, very early onset of VTE within hours of treatment initiation has been rarely re…

- Hemichorea associated with non-ketotic hyperglycemia: a case report and literature review. [Case Reports]Front Clin Diabetes Healthc. 2026; 7:1746146.FC
- Hemichorea associated with non-ketotic hyperglycemia (HC-NH) is a rare neurological complication and is also considered a specific complication of diabetes. Its exact pathogenesis remains unclear. We report a case of a 79-year-old female patient with HC-NH. Her primary clinical presentation included involuntary movements in the right limbs that began 3 days prior to admission. These movements wor…

- Benzodiazepines are commonly prescribed psychotropic drugs with anxiolytic, sedating, hypnotic, and anticonvulsant effects. They impair saccadic eye movements in prosaccade tasks, particularly peak velocity, but the extent of the effects on different saccadic parameters remains unclear. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analyses on the effects of different benzodiazepines on pe…

- Revisiting the Role of Lorazepam as an Adjunct in the Management of Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Review]Biomedicines. 2026 Apr 17; 14(4).B
- Background/Objectives: While standard antiemetic regimens have evolved, breakthrough symptoms and anticipatory nausea persist. Lorazepam has historically been used as an adjunct, yet a comprehensive re-evaluation of its efficacy across historical trials is lacking. This study provides a synthesis of clinical evidence to re-evaluate the adjunctive therapeutic value of lorazepam, potentially addres…
