- Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes and Cardiovascular Health Among Offspring in Early Adulthood. [Journal Article]JAMA Netw Open. 2026 May 01; 9(5):e266783.JN
- CONCLUSIONS: In this longitudinal cohort study of mother-child dyads enrolled at the child's birth, exposure to APOs during gestation, particularly HDP, was associated with suboptimal CVH and arterial injury among offspring in early adulthood. The findings suggest optimizing pregnancy health may support offspring CVH into early adulthood.

- Mutation-Driven Remodeling of the LRRK2 Kinase Free-Energy Landscape and Its Consequences for Conformational Transitions and Inhibitor Binding Affinity. [Journal Article]J Chem Inf Model. 2026 May 13. [Online ahead of print]JC
- Parkinson's disease (PD), the second most common age-related neurodegenerative disorder worldwide, is associated with mutations in several genes, one of which is LRRK2 (leucine-rich repeat kinase 2). Despite cryo-EM structures elucidating the active and inactive architectures of the wild type (WT), the regulatory mechanisms and intermediate conformational states (INTs) that facilitate the transit…

- Antibody Affinity Maturation by Computational Design. [Journal Article]
- This chapter aims to provide the reader with an overview of how to leverage computational algorithms toward improving the affinity of an antibody for a particular target. In most cases, structural information is required; however, the prerequisite information is not always available. Here, we take a bottom-up approach that will guide readers through scenarios where data such as antibody apo or co…

- Anthocyanin-rich dried fruit consumption increases polyphenol excretion and lowers plasma uric acid in coronary artery disease: a randomized trial. [Journal Article]Nutr Metab Cardiovasc Dis. 2026 Apr 02; :104727. [Online ahead of print]NM
- CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that modest anthocyanin intake from selected dried fruits increased urinary polyphenol excretion and reduced plasma uric acid in CAD patients, but did not affect lipid profiles, inflammation, or glycemic indices. Further research is needed to explore the precise mechanisms of action.

- Mechanistic Insights into Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator Function from Molecular Dynamics Analysis of Electrostatic Interactions. [Journal Article]J Chem Inf Model. 2026 May 13. [Online ahead of print]JC
- The cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) is an ATP-gated anion channel whose function is tightly linked to its conformational dynamics and is influenced by the composition of its membrane lipid environment. Despite high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) structures, the molecular determinants that stabilize specific CFTR conformations and enable ion conduction remain incomple…

- A systematic evaluation of protein allosteric site prediction tools with independent datasets. [Journal Article]
- Allostery plays a critical role in protein dynamics and is essential for many biological functions. Over the past decade, various computational approaches have been proposed for predicting allosteric sites. However, the strengths and weaknesses of each method are not well understood. In this study, we created two independent datasets that had not been used in selected computational protocols: a C…

- Tracking Protein Misfolding and Oligomerization: A Temperature-Controlled Ion Mobility-Mass Spectrometry Approach. [Journal Article]Anal Chem. 2026 May 13. [Online ahead of print]AC
- Aberrant protein oligomerization is a hallmark of neurodegenerative disorders, yet the conformational and kinetic underpinnings of early aggregation remain poorly understood due to the inability of structural techniques to capture transient, low-abundance oligomeric intermediates. This necessitates the development of a methodology that can characterize the conformational states related to protein…

- De novo acyl carrier proteins display structure-independent modification and sequence novelty. [Journal Article]RSC Chem Biol. 2026 Apr 24. [Online ahead of print]RC
- Acyl carrier proteins (ACPs) are dynamic, structurally conserved α-helical proteins central to many primary and secondary metabolic processes. Whilst prior engineering efforts have focused on strategic mutagenesis and "helix swaps", much of the ACP sequence design space remains underexplored. Here, we create diverse variants of the archetypal ACP subclass - AcpP - using a bespoke sequence-generat…

- Lipoprotein(a): Role in Cardiovascular Risk and Advances in Novel Therapeutics. [Review]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e106817.C
- Despite adequate primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular events, significant residual risk remains. Part of this risk has been attributed to lipoprotein(a) (Lp{a}). This is a genetically determined lipoprotein that has been linked to cardiovascular disease. Its variability and pathogenicity are attributed to the unique apolipoprotein(a) (apo{a}) within the molecule. This protein has be…

- Simple methods for determining the affected side and performing otolith repositioning in cases of lateral semicircular canal-benign paroxysmal positional vertigo-canalolithiasis: Healthy-ear-down 135° maneuver and affected-ear-down 135° maneuver. [Journal Article]Auris Nasus Larynx. 2026 May 12; 53(4):466-478. [Online ahead of print]AN
- CONCLUSIONS: H-135°M and A-135°M proved effective for both determination of the affected side and treatment of L-BPPV-can-geo and L-BPPV-can-apo cases. Canalith jam typically presents with unidirectional nystagmus either toward the affected or healthy side; however, this unidirectional nystagmus may be accompanied by PGPN or PAPN. The pathophysiology suggests that the directionality of the jam and its location-whether in the anterior or posterior segment of the lateral canal-may influence clinical presentation.

- Engineered Escherichia coli Strains for Flavoprotein Research: From Production of Apoproteins to Incorporation of Flavin Derivatives. [Journal Article]ACS Synth Biol. 2026 May 12. [Online ahead of print]AS
- Flavoproteins are involved in a wide array of biological processes. These proteins contain one or more flavins as their cofactor, bound either noncovalently or covalently, and catalyze a wide breadth of redox reactions. In commonly used expression strains, flavoproteins are typically produced as holo (flavin-bound) flavoproteins. The ability to produce their apo form (flavoprotein devoid of flavi…

The site and frequency of the products of this reaction can be used to garner insights into the conformation of the protein. - Human methionine synthase (MTR) is an essential enzyme of one carbon metabolism. Consisting of a catalytic N-half and a cobalamin binding C-half, MTR utilises this intricate organometallic cofactor in the methyl transfer from methyltetrahydrofolate to homocysteine producing methionine. Cobalamin loading into MTR, and its subsequent activation, requires methylmalonic aciduria and homocystinuria Ty…
