- Refractory seizures as a manifestation of anti-epileptic drug induced hypocalcemia and vitamin D deficiency. [Case Reports]JCEM Case Rep. 2026 Jun; 4(6):luag126.JC
- Enzyme-inducing antiepileptic drugs (EIAEDs) such as carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, and primidone are used in the management of epilepsy and can alter hepatic enzymes of the cytochrome P450 (CYP450) system. This can have a significant impact on vitamin D metabolism. We describe the case of a 34-year-old female diagnosed with focal epilepsy who presented to the hospital at 25-weeks gesta…

- Refined kinetic analyses of micropollutant degradation by UV-AOPs incorporating dynamic oxidant decay. [Journal Article]J Hazard Mater. 2026 Jun 15; 511:142263.JH
- Experimental data regression and model analyses of micropollutant (MP) degradation kinetics in ultraviolet-based advanced oxidation processes (UV-AOPs) typically assume a constant fluence-based pseudo-first-order rate constant (k'). However, oxidant decay continuously disrupts steady-state concentrations of reactive radicals and repeatedly establishes new equilibria, making k' vary over time-an e…

- Comparative Efficacy of Acupuncture Therapy in Primary Essential Tremor: A Network Meta-Analysis and Systematic Review. [Review]Healthcare (Basel). 2026 Mar 21; 14(6).H
- CONCLUSIONS: This network meta-analysis demonstrates that acupuncture-related interventions are effective and safe for treating essential tremor. However, caution is warranted in interpreting these findings due to methodological limitations in the included randomized controlled trials (small sample sizes, lack of blinding, inadequate allocation concealment), sparse data for some interventions, and the concentration of studies within China, which limits their generalizability. Despite these limitations, acupuncture offers a valuable non-pharmacological treatment option for patients with poor medication tolerance. Future large-scale, multicenter trials with rigorous designs are needed to validate these findings.

- A Systematic Review of Clinically Significant Drug-Drug Interactions With Phenobarbital and Primidone. [Systematic Review]Pharmacotherapy. 2026 Apr; 46(4):e70133.P
- Phenobarbital (PB) is historically used for management of seizure disorders but more recently has emerged as a prominent option for the management of alcohol withdrawal syndrome given data suggesting its benefit over benzodiazepines. An important consideration of PB therapy is its induction of cytochrome-P 450 enzymes (CYP450), which may lead to underrecognized drug-drug interactions (DDIs). Know…

- TRPM3 mediates spontaneous pain and mechanical allodynia in a mouse model of chronic orofacial neuropathy. [Journal Article]Cell Rep Med. 2026 Mar 17; 7(3):102645.CR
- Trigeminal nerve injury can lead to chronic and difficult-to-treat orofacial neuropathic pain. Here, we uncover a key role for the cation channel TRPM3 in the chronic constriction injury of the infraorbital nerve (IoN-CCI) mouse model of trigeminal neuropathic pain. Wild-type (WT) mice develop spontaneous pain and mechanical allodynia for up to 6 weeks following IoN-CCI, whereas Trpm3[-/-] mice d…

- Echoes of Childhood Trauma: A Rare Case of Holmes Tremor With Neuroanatomic Imaging and Video Evidence. [Case Reports]
- Neurologic tremors constitute a heterogeneous group of movement disorders that are often challenging to classify due to overlapping clinical presentations. While Parkinsonian, essential, and cerebellar tremors are among the most frequently encountered types, rarer causes such as thalamic infarction may be easily overlooked. We describe a rare case of tremor secondary to thalamic infarction, empha…

- Degradation method for the antiepileptic drug primidone in water using a hybrid high-frequency ultrasound and photo-Fenton process. [Journal Article]
- Antiepileptic drugs are considered contaminants of emerging concern in water and are resistant to conventional wastewater treatment processes. Therefore, their presence has been detected in surface waters, and their elimination/degradation requires effective treatment methods. In this research, ultrasound-based methods (e.g., sonolysis, sono-Fenton, and sono-photo-Fenton) were addressed in the de…

- Psychiatric and behavioural side effects of antiseizure medications in epilepsy. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: PBSEs can often be anticipated, mitigated, and frequently reversed. A risk-stratified prescribing strategy-monotherapy first, enzyme-neutral or mood-friendly medications for vulnerable patients, folate supplementation for inducers, and early switch from offending agents-can safeguard mental health without compromising seizure control.
