  • Cardiac Intoxication/Nutritional/Metabolic. [Review]
Vet Clin North Am Food Anim Pract. 2026 May 07. [Online ahead of print]Fritz SA, Funk RAVC
  • This article reviews cardiotoxic syndromes in ruminants caused by various toxins, including ionophores, vitamin E/selenium deficiencies, gossypol, Taxus plants, cardiac glycosides, grayanotoxins, and others. It emphasizes that early recognition, thorough history, and diagnostic sampling are crucial for accurate diagnosis. Since no specific antidotes exist, prompt removal of the toxic source and e…
  • Iron-enrichment of kale via combination moderate electric field processing enhances iron delivery in vitro. [Journal Article]
Sci Rep. 2026 May 07. [Online ahead of print]Li Z, Mok JH, … Kopec RESR
  • Combination-moderate electric field (MEF) processing successfully increases the iron content of kale by ~ 160 × as compared to untreated kale, but it is unknown whether this kale better delivers iron. It is also not known how combination-MEF treatments impact other nutritionally relevant bioactive kale compounds. This study aimed to (1) determine intestinal delivery of iron from the iron-enriched…
  • Lean metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease: Current insights and knowledge gaps. [Review]
Best Pract Res Clin Endocrinol Metab. 2026 May 05; :102107. [Online ahead of print]Raj PS, John R, … Kapoor NBP
  • Metabolic dysfunction-associated liver disease (MASLD) is on a rising trend globally. An approximate 10-20% of those with MASLD have a lean phenotype (lean MASLD) with prevalence higher in Asian population Thin-fat phenotype seen in Asians, increased visceral adipose tissue, insulin resistance and genetic polymorphisms are considered to contribute to this. Atherogenic dyslipidemia, diabetes melli…
  • Beyond 100 years of vitamin E and related molecules - Milestones and open challenges. [Review]
Mol Aspects Med. 2026 May 06; 109:101477. [Online ahead of print]Maria WW, Jeffrey A, … Francesco GMA
  • Over the past century, research on vitamin E has evolved from its initial identification as a fertility factor to the recognition of α-tocopherol (α-TOH) as an essential micronutrient with antioxidant and gene regulatory functions. Despite extensive investigation, controversies persist regarding its precise biological role, clinical efficacy, and classification as a vitamin. This review summarize…
  • Pollinators support the nutrition and income of vulnerable communities. [Journal Article]
Nature. 2026 May 06. [Online ahead of print]Timberlake TP, Sapkota S, … Memmott JNat
  • Biodiversity loss threatens human health and welfare through the degradation of ecosystem services like pollination[1-3]. However, without clear mechanistic links between ecosystems and people, these services can remain abstract and intangible. Consequently, it is challenging to predict the effects of environmental degradation on human welfare or to identify effective ecological interventions tha…
  • A nutrient-wide analysis of the associations of dietary nutrients with all-cause and disease-specific mortality. [Journal Article]
BMC Public Health. 2026 May 04. [Online ahead of print]Wang Y, Wang J, … Liu FBP
  • CONCLUSIONS: Total intake of major macronutrients was not significantly associated with mortality risk, but nutrient type and quality played critical roles. Plant-derived nutrients, specific minerals, vitamins, dietary fibre, and natural carbohydrates were protective against mortality, whereas refined sugars and high energy density were detrimental. These findings highlight the importance of dietary quality in reducing mortality risk and provide evidence for developing targeted dietary recommendations.
