- Modern Research on Traditional Chinese Ethnomedicines for Rheumatoid Arthritis: Acting Through Signaling Pathways. [Review]Phytother Res. 2026 May; 40(5):2790-2823.PR
- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by chronic synovitis and multi-joint destruction. The disease course is prolonged, recurrent, and associated with high disability rates. Patients often experience significant physical and mental suffering due to persistent pain, joint deformities, and multisystem complications. Clinical treatment faces dual challenges of con…

- [Diabetic Charcot neuroarthropathy initially misdiagnosed as rheumatoid arthritis and gout: A case report]. [Case Reports]
- Charcot neuroarthropathy (CN) is a rare but severely disabling complication most commonly seen in patients with longstanding diabetic peripheral neuropathy. CN is characterized by progressive destruction, dislocation, and deformity of the foot and ankle joints, often accompanied by altered biomechanics, chronic ulceration, secondary infection, and, in advanced cases, a high risk of amputation or …

- Overview of mechanisms and novel therapies on rheumatoid arthritis from a cellular perspective. [Review]
- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by synovial inflammation of joints in response to autoimmune disorders. Once triggered, many factors were involved in the development of RA, including both cellular factors like osteoclasts, synovial fibroblasts, T cells, B cells, and soluble factors like interleukin-1 (IL-1), IL-6, IL-17 and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), etc. Th…

- Do people with musculoskeletal pain differ from healthy cohorts in terms of global measures of strength? A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: There is a paucity of multi-joint strength values in participants with musculoskeletal pain. Quantitative comparison with healthy cohorts was limited, except for those with fibromyalgia. Adult women with fibromyalgia displayed reduced multi-joint strength values in comparison to active community women.

- Role of Intestinal Dysbiosis and Nutrition in Rheumatoid Arthritis. [Review]
- Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic systemic immune-mediated disease caused by genetic and environmental factors. It is often characterized by the generation of autoantibodies that lead to synovial inflammation and eventual multi-joint destruction. A growing number of studies have shown significant differences in the gut microbiota composition of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients compared to healt…

- Quercetin suppresses inflammatory cytokine production in rheumatoid arthritis fibroblast-like synoviocytes. [Journal Article]
- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, progressive and systemic autoimmune disease mainly characterized by symmetric multijoint synovitis. Quercetin has anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidation and immune regulation activities, and therefore shows high medicinal value. The present study aimed to observe the effect of quercetin on fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLSs) in RA. Rheumatoid arthritis fibroblas…

- Differential Diagnosis of Acute and Chronic Gouty Arthritis by Multijoint Ultrasound. [Journal Article]
- To investigate whether multi-joint ultrasound (US) findings in patients with gouty arthritis could be used to distinguish between acute and chronic stages, we performed a retrospective study with 129 enrolled patients from the Rheumatology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College from September 1, 2018 to June 12, 2019. Patients with acute or non-acute gout were cate…

- The contribution of age and obesity to the number of painful joint sites in individuals reporting osteoarthritis: a population-based study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The lack of an association of age and BMI (obesity) with number of painful joint sites in OA raises questions about the role of these risk factors and our understanding of OA as a multi-joint disease. Filling this knowledge gap is critical to making progress with defining OA phenotypes and identifying potential aetiological mechanisms.

- Subarticular Inflammatory Pseudoabscesses: A Pathologic Study With Clinical Correlation. [Journal Article]
- Abnormal accumulation of neutrophils in a subarticular bone usually raises the concern for osteomyelitis or septic arthritis, a disabling and potentially life-threatening medical condition. At the pathology department of a specialized orthopedic institute, we observed a distinct pattern of subarticular inflammation mimicking infection characterized by collections of neutrophils, macrophages, and …

- Synthesis and Biological Activities of Chemical Drugs for the Treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis. [Review]
- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease that primarily affects the joints, with the main clinical manifestations being chronic, symmetrical, and peripheral multi-joint inflammatory lesions. Drugs, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), glucocorticoids (GCs), disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs), and biologics play a very important role in th…

- The rheumatoid foot and ankle: current evidence. [Review]
- The management of rheumatoid patients is a complex process due to the chronic, systemic, multi-joint and extra-articular nature of the disease. In comparison, osteoarthritis and post-traumatic arthritis usually involve a single joint and are hence not comparable to rheumatoid pathology. This review sets out to specifically look at studies on rheumatoid patients with interventions for foot or ankl…

- A case of rheumatoid arthritis improved from Steinbrocker classification class IV to class II after multi-joint surgery. [Case Reports]
- We report the case of a patient with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who showed a reduction in disease severity (from class IV to class II) after multi-joint surgery. The patient was a 61-year-old man with a history of RA, type-2 diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and nephrotic syndrome. He had been undergoing treatment for RA for the past 10 years, but his condition could not be appropri…

- First qualification study of serum biomarkers as indicators of total body burden of osteoarthritis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: We have suspected that the correlation of systemic biomarkers with disease has been hampered by the inability to fully phenotype the burden of OA in a patient. These results confirm the hypothesis, revealed upon adequate patient phenotyping, that systemic joint tissue concentrations of several biomarkers can be quantitative indicators of specific subspecies of OA and of total body burden of disease.

- Occupational work and quality of life in osteoarthritis patients. [Journal Article]
- The ageing European population suffers from chronic diseases, including osteoarthritis (OA). The aim of this study was to investigate the work activity/ability, the quality of life and reciprocal interaction between both in OA patients. A total of 750 OA outpatients were evaluated by a questionnaire study. Work Ability Index (WAI) and General Health Questionnaire 28 (GHQ 28) were used as tools fo…
