- Effects of a cow's milk protein-free diet as an adjunct to standard therapy in juvenile idiopathic arthritis: a randomized controlled study. [Journal Article]BMC Rheumatol. 2026 May 29. [Online ahead of print]BR
- CONCLUSIONS: In children with well-controlled JIA, a cow's milk protein-free diet was associated with modest short-term improvements in pain and disease activity. These findings suggest a potential adjunctive benefit alongside standard therapy, but the short duration, low baseline disease activity, and reliance on parental self-report warrant cautious interpretation.

- Test-retest reliability and validity of movement-evoked pain in patients with knee osteoarthritis: a methodological study protocol. [Journal Article]BMJ Open. 2026 May 27; 16(5):e116380.BO
- Pain experienced during functional activities, referred to as movement-evoked pain (MEP), is a common and disabling symptom in individuals with knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Unlike pain at rest, MEP may better reflect the real-life burden of KOA and is increasingly recognised as a core outcome in musculoskeletal pain trials. However, its clinical utility remains limited by a lack of evidence on its …

- Cellular Products with Anti-Inflammatory Properties for the Treatment of Cartilage Lesions. [Review]Int J Mol Sci. 2026 May 12; 27(10).IJ
- Most high-tech drugs and tissue engineering products based on human chondrocytes currently available on the market are aimed at restoring traumatic damage to cartilage tissue. However, in the presence of inflammation, their regenerative potential is significantly reduced, which limits their use in patients with osteoarthritis-one of the most common degenerative and inflammatory joint pathologies.…

- Periodontitis and Rheumatoid Arthritis: Shared Pathophysiology, Bidirectional Association, and Therapeutic Implications-A Narrative Review. [Review]Healthcare (Basel). 2026 May 20; 14(10).H
- Periodontitis (PD) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are chronic inflammatory disorders that impose substantial individual and societal burdens worldwide. PD is characterized by progressive destruction of the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone, leading to tooth loss, impaired oral function, and sustained systemic inflammatory burden. RA, affecting approximately 0.5-1% of the population, is a chro…

- Non-inferiority of saline versus corticosteroid injections for trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis: a protocol for a pilot and feasibility randomised controlled trial. [Journal Article]BMJ Open. 2026 May 26; 16(5):e111844.BO
- Trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis (TMO) is among the most prevalent forms of upper extremity osteoarthritis. It is frequently associated with significant levels of pain and disability, particularly among ageing women. The typical care pathway for TMO relies on non-surgical approaches for up to 2 years, before surgery is considered. One of the most common non-surgical approaches is an intra-articu…

- Immune-metabolic crosstalk in rheumatoid arthritis: mediation effects of plasma metabolites on inflammatory cytokines. [Journal Article]Am J Clin Exp Immunol. 2026; 15(2):87-98.AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study not only confirmed the causal role of specific inflammatory cytokines in the pathogenesis of RA from a genetic perspective, but more importantly, for the first time, systematically revealed the specific plasma metabolite mediating pathways that connect these inflammatory cytokines to RA. These findings more specifically link the immune dysregulation of RA to metabolic remodeling, especially the protective role of IFN-γ through glycine/pyridoxal balance, and the pathway of IL-10RA through purine metabolites to affect risk, providing novel and mechanistic insights into the immunometabolic network of RA. We believe that these specific intermediate metabolites are expected to be potential candidate targets for future targeted therapies or intervention strategies, aiming to precisely regulate the interaction between inflammation and metabolism.

- Inflammatory changes in osteoarthritis knees undergoing total knee arthroplasty: a prospective clinical and histopathological study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Approximately one-fifth of radiologically degenerative OA knees harbour occult inflammatory changes. Borderline ESR/CRP values and persistent pain after TKA may indicate hidden inflammation. Selective synovial biopsy in patients with suspected inflammatory OA may improve identification of inflammatory phenotypes and assist in postoperative evaluation.

- Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is a complex inflammatory disease involving multiple cytokine pathways, including tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK-STAT) signaling. Despite advances in biologic and targeted synthetic therapies, up to 40% of patients with SpA remain refractory to monotherapy. This case series from a tertiary care center …

- Brucine-loaded hydrogel microneedles for sustained anti-inflammatory therapy in rheumatoid arthritis: programmable drug release and detachable design. [Journal Article]
- This study aimed to develop a brucine (Bru) hydrogel-forming microneedle (Bru-HFM) delivery system that could achieve long-term, programmed drug release, through adjusting degree of cross-linking in polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/carbomer 934P (CP) hydrogel. A one-way orthogonal experiment and a Franz diffusion cell were employed to optimize the preparation process. The resulting Bru-HFM exhibited favor…

- Inflammatory back pain-like symptoms and MRI mimics of sacroiliitis in patients with anatomical variants of the sacroiliac joint: a cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]
- Sacroiliac joint (SIJ) anatomical variants are common on MRI and may complicate interpretation by mimicking inflammatory sacroiliitis; however, their relationship with inflammatory back pain (IBP)-like symptom patterns is not well defined in patients without axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA). To characterize inflammatory back pain (IBP)-like symptom patterns and accompanying MRI findings that may m…

- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, inflammatory autoimmune disease characterized by progressive joint involvement. The disease is associated with reduced health-related quality of life, functional ability, work productivity, and daily activity, in addition to pain, fatigue, and inflammation-induced structural damage. RA emerges through a complex interplay of multiple factors, including the r…
