- Exosome therapy for knee osteoarthritis: a network meta-analysis based on rat models. [Journal Article]Stem Cells Transl Med. 2026 Aug 18; 15(9).SC
- CONCLUSIONS: Current evidence from rat models suggests that exosome therapy may substantially ameliorate the pathological progression of KOA, with exosomes derived from early developmental tissues, particularly hAFSCs-Exo and hUCMSCs-Exo, showing favorable chondroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects in the probabilistic ranking when administered at high doses. Nevertheless, the findings from publication bias and trim-and-fill analyses indicate that the existing effect sizes are likely overestimated. These results require confirmation in larger-scale, methodologically more rigorous preclinical studies.

- Distinct Cardiac Profiles in Psoriatic Arthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis: Insights from Echocardiographic Findings. [Journal Article]Joint Bone Spine. 2026 Aug 18; :106124. [Online ahead of print]JB
- CONCLUSIONS: PsA is associated with a higher burden of subclinical cardiac abnormalities than RA, involving both ventricles and the pericardium, after adjustment for measured traditional cardiovascular risk factors, although residual confounding cannot be excluded. These hypothesis-generating findings support consideration of disease-specific cardiovascular monitoring in PsA.

- Global, regional, and national burden of HIV/AIDS, 1990-2023, with the estimated burden attributable to intimate partner violence and forecasted impacts of funding cuts through 2030: results from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023. [Journal Article]Lancet HIV. 2026 Aug 18. [Online ahead of print]LH
- CONCLUSIONS: Despite two decades of substantial progress, the global HIV response remains highly sensitive to gendered social determinants and funding stability. The potential contribution of IPV to HIV-related mortality among women underscores the need for integrated interventions that address violence prevention and post-violence care alongside HIV treatment. The projected effects of funding cuts-millions of additional infections and deaths-highlight the fragility of the gains achieved and the urgent need to protect HIV financing. Achieving and sustaining the UNAIDS 2030 targets will require renewed investment, gender-responsive programming, and resilient health systems capable of providing equitable access to care.

- Global and regional progress towards reduced burden of oral conditions between 2019 and 2023: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023. [Journal Article]Lancet Public Health. 2026 Sep; 11(9):e630-e641.LP
- CONCLUSIONS: Our modelled estimates of global trends in the prevalence of oral conditions from 2019 to 2023 suggest that early progress is modest and, at the current pace, insufficient to meet the 2030 GOHAP targets. Accelerated, equity-focused prevention and integration of essential oral health-care services within primary care and universal health coverage are needed, alongside strengthened oral cancer control and congenital anomaly care.

[Journal Article]Lancet Public Health. 2026 Sep; 11(9):e604-e629.LP
- CONCLUSIONS: The global health workforce has expanded substantially since 1990, largely due to women entering the formal health workforce. However, this expansion has been uneven across regions and persistent shortfalls remain in doctors, nurses and midwives, dentists, and pharmacists relative to moderate UHC attainment. Addressing these gaps will require expansion of training capacity, retention and remuneration policies for early-career workers, and gender-responsive workforce arrangements.

- Research definitions of flare in non-systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis: An OMERACT scoping review. [Journal Article]Semin Arthritis Rheum. 2026 Aug 08; 80:153053. [Online ahead of print]SA
- CONCLUSIONS: In JIA clinical research, "flare" is a common, but inconsistently defined, outcome. The lack of standardized outcome reporting creates barriers in analyzing and communicating research findings. Development of an internationally recognized flare outcome in JIA research would improve shared decision making between healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers.

- Clinical Cohort Analysis of miR-215-5p as a Diagnostic Biomarker for Osteoarthritis and its Mechanism via EREG in IL-1β-Induced Chondrocyte Model. [Journal Article]J Vis Exp. 2026 Jul 31; (233).JV
- Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease marked by degradation of joint cartilage and synovial inflammatory infiltration. This study aims to evaluate serum miR-215-5p as a diagnostic biomarker for OA and to investigate its regulatory mechanism in IL-1β-induced chondrocytes. 110 OA patients and 105 healthy controls were recruited. Serum miR-215-5p and EREG expression were determined by …

- CONCLUSIONS: Lean mass is the strongest correlate of CRF in middle-aged, community-dwelling individuals. Indexing peak VO2 to lean versus total mass results in different conclusions regarding the intersections of CRF with obesity and metabolic health and emphasizes the role of cardiometabolic risk factors beyond obesity itself.

- Risk factors for infection in rheumatoid arthritis patients treated with tocilizumab: an observational study highlighting hydroxychloroquine use. [Journal Article]Clin Rheumatol. 2026 Aug 18. [Online ahead of print]CR
- CONCLUSIONS: In this real-world cohort of TCZ-treated patients with RA, concomitant HCQ use was associated with a lower observed risk of clinically significant infection. These findings may help refine infection risk stratification but should be interpreted as hypothesis-generating because of the observational study design. Keypoints • Infections remain an important safety concern for patients with rheumatoid arthritis receiving tocilizumab in real-world practice. • This retrospective cohort study evaluated clinical predictors of clinically significant infections during and shortly after tocilizumab therapy. • HCQ use was associated with a lower observed hazard of infection in the multivariable analysis, and this association was directionally consistent in the IPTW-weighted analysis. • Given the observational design, this association should be interpreted cautiously and confirmed in prospective studies.

- CONCLUSIONS: Intra-articular injection of UC-EVs demonstrated meaningful clinical benefits in patients with KOA, including reductions in VAS pain scores and improvements across all KOOS domains. Patients with Kellgren-Lawrence grade 2 or 3 showed greater treatment responses compared with grade 4. These findings suggest that intra-articular UC-EVs therapy may represent a promising next-generation treatment option for KOA.

- CONCLUSIONS: This study developed and internally validated a nomogram model integrating serum OPG and RANKL levels, functional disability, inflammatory activity, and disease duration for identifying low physical HRQoL status in RA patients. The model demonstrates robust discrimination, calibration, and clinical utility, providing clinicians with a practical tool for individualized risk stratification and facilitating earlier supportive and disease-control interventions.

- Lack of association between rheumatoid factor levels and clinical response to certolizumab pegol in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: an observational study. [Journal Article]Drugs Context. 2026; 15.DC
- CONCLUSIONS: Baseline RF values did not appear to influence CZP clinical response in this cohort of patients with RA. However, small sample size and data heterogeneity restricted generalizability. Efficacy data from larger cohorts may further elucidate the impact of high RF levels in patients receiving Fc-free biologics.
