- Aspiration and Bronchoscopic Retrieval of Dental Objects: A Literature Review and Data Analysis of Reported Cases. [Review]J Bronchology Interv Pulmonol. 2026 Jul 01; 33(3).JB
- CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, the elderly and/or cognitively impaired patients are most at risk for dental object aspiration. Chest X-ray was favored for treatment planning. Flexible bronchoscopy with the use of a bronchial forceps was the most successful combination for management of dental object aspiration. Clinicians may find these approaches useful when treating dental object aspiration.

- Acute chest pain in a 14 year old following chronic foreign body inhalation: a case report. [Journal Article]J Med Case Rep. 2026 Jun 15. [Online ahead of print]JM
- CONCLUSIONS: This case illustrates that an inhaled foreign body can remain undetected for years, leading to chronic pulmonary changes. Inhaled button battery requires a high index of suspicion and urgent imaging-even in delayed presentations. Early diagnosis, prompt imaging and timely intervention are essential to prevent chronic complications and the need for invasive surgical procedures.

- Removal of a Fishhook-Shaped Foreign Body in the Bronchus and Literature Review. [Journal Article]Respirol Case Rep. 2026 Jun; 14(6):e70641.RC
- Foreign body aspiration, particularly involving complex metallic objects with sharp projections like fishhooks, presents a formidable therapeutic challenge, often leading to complications such as mucosal impaction and obstructive pneumonia. We report a challenging case of a metallic fishhook-shaped foreign body deeply embedded within the distal bronchial wall, where initial attempts at retrieval …

- Case Report: Unexpected distal airway obstruction in prematurity: a fatal case of intratracheal decidual aspiration and a call for revisiting resuscitation algorithms. [Case Reports]Front Pediatr. 2026; 14:1840549.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: This case illustrates that aspiration of intrauterine decidual tissue is a rare but devastating cause of unexpected distal airway obstruction in preterm infants. Findings from all four reported cases indicate that standard algorithms (MRSOPA/DOPE) are ineffective. The "False-Patency" sign-easy passage of a suction catheter despite absent chest rise and breath sounds-is a major diagnostic trap, delaying identification of a solid, peripherally impacted foreign body. A strong suspicion for this condition is critical. While specialized airway visualization instruments for preterm neonates remain a long-term goal, the primary solution lies in cognitive vigilance-specifically, recognizing this unusual condition and its misleading "False-Patency" indicator.

- CONCLUSIONS: This unusual case highlights the need to consider foreign body injury in unexplained tamponade and to use multimodality imaging for diagnosis.Atypical presentation without prior medical conditions should prompt a thorough social history.

- When Foreign Body Aspiration Is Not the Whole Story: Reconsidering Imaging Escalation in Infants With Apparent Tension Pneumothorax. [Letter]Clin Case Rep. 2026 Jun; 14(6):e72805.CC
- In infants with suspected foreign body aspiration and radiographic tension pneumothorax, failure to improve after appropriate decompression should prompt immediate diagnostic reconsideration. Early CT or advanced imaging may identify congenital lung anomalies such as CPAM, particularly when positive-pressure ventilation creates misleading radiographic findings.

- Clinical characteristics and management strategies in adult foreign-body airway obstruction: A retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(6):e0351214.Plos
- Airway foreign-body aspiration in adults is uncommon but can be life-threatening.Flexible bronchoscopy is the standard first-line therapy, but critically ill patients may need extracorporeal life support. This study aims to characterize the diagnosis, management, and outcomes of adult airway foreign-body cases treated at a single center over nearly 12 years to inform a standardized clinical pathway.A…

- Eosinophil-rich sterile fluid collection after calcium phosphate cement use in cranial reconstruction: A case suggesting implant-associated inflammatory reaction. [Case Reports]Surg Neurol Int. 2026; 17:256.SN
- CONCLUSIONS: Eosinophil-rich, culture-negative fluid collection after CPC use may represent a self-limited implant-associated inflammatory reaction. Recognition of this pattern may support conservative management when infection and CSF leakage are unlikely.

- Interhospital transfer dynamics in foreign body aspiration: Age-stratified nationwide retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]Turk Gogus Kalp Damar Cerrahisi Derg. 2026 Jun 01. [Online ahead of print]TG
- CONCLUSIONS: Age groups have a significant impact on the type and distance of interhospital transfers in FBA cases. In contrast, the timing of transfer and mode of transportation do not differ significantly by age.

- Clinical analysis of tracheobronchial foreign body aspiration in children aged six years and older. [Journal Article]BMC Pediatr. 2026 May 30. [Online ahead of print]BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: FBA in school-age children demonstrates distinct clinical characteristics, with non-food foreign bodies such as pen caps being predominant. Low-dose CT plays an important diagnostic role, while rigid bronchoscopy remains the primary treatment for central airway foreign bodies, and flexible bronchoscopy is useful for distal airway involvement. A structured algorithmic approach may facilitate timely diagnosis and appropriate intervention.

- Re-Evaluating Anatomical Determinants of Foreign Body Aspiration in Adults. [Journal Article]J Clin Med. 2026 May 19; 15(10).JC
- Objectives: Tracheobronchial foreign-body aspiration is a clinically significant condition in adults. Although classical teaching attributes the right-sided predominance to the steeper, shorter, and wider morphology of the right main bronchus, this explanation has not been empirically validated in patients with confirmed foreign-body aspiration. Methods: This retrospective study included adult pa…

- Integration of 2D and 3D Imaging Descriptors with Large Language Models for Assessing Pediatric Foreign-Body Aspiration Risk. [Journal Article]Children (Basel). 2026 May 16; 13(5).C
- Background/Objectives: Foreign-body aspiration (FBA) is a common and largely preventable pediatric emergency, yet current safety standards and risk assessments rely predominantly on object size and on anecdotal descriptions and bronchoscopy findings. We propose a clinically oriented proof-of-concept workflow that combines high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) scanning and calibrated two-dimensio…

- Pediatric pulmonologists' current practices and variations in flexible bronchoscopy: a national survey study from Türkiye. [Multicenter Study]Turk J Pediatr. 2026 Apr 30; 68(2):261-276.TJ
- CONCLUSIONS: This first comprehensive national survey of pediatric FB practices in Türkiye, encompassing all relevant centers, revealed significant heterogeneity in procedural approaches, particularly regarding sedation protocols, BAL techniques, and interventional capabilities. The findings underscore the importance of developing interventional procedures and enhancing the training of pediatric pulmonologists and interdisciplinary teams practicing pediatric bronchoscopy to improve patient outcomes and procedural consistency.
