- A Case of Fetal Bradycardia, or Not? Pulseless Ventricular Tachycardia in a Fetus with Congenital Long QT Syndrome. [Journal Article]Pediatr Cardiol. 2026 Aug 21. [Online ahead of print]PC
- The diagnosis of long QT syndrome (LQTS) in the fetus is rare and can be difficult to manage. Fetuses most commonly present with sinus bradycardia but can develop more significant arrhythmias such as pseudo-atrioventricular block and ventricular tachycardia. Here we report the case of a fetus presenting with "pulseless" ventricular tachycardia in the setting of LQTS, including diagnostic strategi…

- Electrocardiographic identification of drug effects: QT prolongation, arrhythmias, and clinical monitoring. [Systematic Review]Eur J Clin Pharmacol. 2026 Aug 21; 82(9).EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Drug-induced ECG changes are common, clinically consequential, and often preventable. Evidence-based monitoring protocols, correction of modifiable risk factors, and prompt recognition of ominous ECG patterns substantially reduce adverse outcomes. Prescriber education across all clinical settings is imperative.

- Transmurality and Autonomic Effects of Pulsed Field Ablation on the Mitral Isthmus. [Journal Article]Circ Arrhythm Electrophysiol. 2026 Aug 21; :e015125. [Online ahead of print]CA
- CONCLUSIONS: Across all 3 PFA platforms, endocardial ablation of the MI is not reliably transmural and does not ablate VOM parasympathetic innervation. VOM ethanol infusion can complete transmurality and denervation of the MI.

- Encephalitis, High-Grade Atrioventricular Block, Acute Kidney Injury, and Hepatitis Following Atezolizumab Therapy: A Complex Case of Sequential Multiorgan Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor-Related Adverse Events. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Aug; 18(8):e114869.C
- Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) can cause serious toxicities due to widespread immune activation. We report the case of a 49-year-old man with lung cancer who presented with confusion and seizures 16 days after receiving atezolizumab. Investigations were unrevealing of a cause. Immunotherapy-related encephalitis was suspected, given the temporal association between symptoms and atezolizumab i…

- Hybrid periventricular surgery for ventricular septal defects in children: a single-center large-cohort study in Kazakhstan. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Several clinical and anatomical factors should be considered when assessing perioperative and long-term risks of hybrid VSD closure in pediatric patients. Nevertheless, the hybrid approach represents a valuable alternative to conventional surgery, demonstrating a low incidence of long-term complications.

- Metachronous severe multisystem immune-related adverse events during tremelimumab plus durvalumab therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma: a clinicopathological autopsy case report. [Case Reports]
- Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have improved outcomes in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but severe multisystem immune-related adverse events (irAEs) remain a major clinical challenge. We report an autopsy-confirmed case of advanced HCC treated with tremelimumab plus durvalumab that developed severe metachronous multisystem irAEs characterized by sequential pancreatitis, laryngeal e…

- Neural network-based prediction of atrial fibrillation at discharge following cardiac surgery. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: A machine learning model integrating perioperative electrocardiographic and clinical variables demonstrated robust performance in predicting the absence of atrial fibrillation at discharge, accurately identifying more than two thirds of patients. For the remaining patients, management continued to rely on clinical judgment. This approach offers a valuable tool for improved risk stratification and may facilitate the implementation of more targeted prophylactic strategies following cardiac surgery.

- Clinical Presentation and Prognosis of Pathogenic Variants in Young-Onset Atrial Fibrillation. [Journal Article]J Cardiovasc Electrophysiol. 2026 Aug 20. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: In this highly selected young-onset AF cohort referred for genetic testing, pathogenic monogenic variants were common. There was a significant proportion of patients suffering adverse long-term events.

- Symptom-Triggered 6-Lead ECG Monitoring Significantly Increases Arrhythmia Detection Beyond Traditional Ambulatory Monitoring. [Journal Article]JACC Adv. 2026 Aug 19; 5(9):103102. [Online ahead of print]JA
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings demonstrate that patient-initiated, symptom-triggered ECG monitoring substantially enhances arrhythmia detection compared with traditional short-duration monitoring.

- Rheumatoid Arthritis Presenting with Multivalvular Regurgitation, Conduction Block, and Multisite Aneurysms: A Case Report With Histologic Confirmation. [Case Reports]
- Cardiac involvement in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is uncommon and often clinically silent, but may encompass valvular, structural, and conduction system abnormalities. Involvement of the mitral-aortic intervalvular fibrosa (MAIVF) and the membranous interventricular septum is exceptionally rare and has not been previously described in RA. A 61-year-old man with longstanding seropositive RA present…

- Leadless Pacing for Delayed Heart Block After Transcatheter Tricupid Valve Replacement. [Case Reports]JACC Case Rep. 2026 Aug 18; :109813. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: This case review summarizes conduction disturbances after TTVR, pacing strategies, and postprocedural monitoring. In the absence of recommendations, pacemaker selection should be individualized, with leadless pacing representing a valve-sparing strategy.Delayed AVB may occur after TTVR, with an alternating AVB as a premonitory sign. Leadless pacemakers offer a valve-sparing pacing option.

- Maternal Sjögren's Disease and Its Long Shadow: Adult-Onset Seronegative Lupus Nephritis Following Congenital Heart Block. [Case Reports]
- Congenital complete atrioventricular block (CCAVB) is a well-recognized manifestation of neonatal lupus erythematosus (NLE), caused by transplacental transfer of maternal anti-Ro/Sjögren's Syndrome Type A (SSA) and anti-La/Sjögren's Syndrome Type B (SSB) antibodies. Although non-cardiac manifestations of NLE typically resolve within the first year of life, the long-term autoimmune risk in affecte…
