- Proximity of city schools in Scotland to air quality monitors: an exploratory geomapping study in five Scottish cities. [Journal Article]BMJ Public Health. 2026; 4(2):e001585.BP
- CONCLUSIONS: We have shown that very few schools are near enough to an air quality monitor to provide accurate local readings. The air safety of our school children at school in five Scottish cities, many of which are on busy city streets, is unknown.

- The impact of a minimally processed seaweed meal on the appearance of amino acids in the peripheral circulation in healthy adults: a pilot dietary intervention. [Journal Article]Clin Nutr ESPEN. 2026 Apr 28; :103303. [Online ahead of print]CN
- CONCLUSIONS: SWM and CON had similar EAA bioavailability. SWM was associated with greater gastrointestinal symptoms and lower satiety scores. For minimally processed seaweed-based foods to substantially contribute to protein requirements, optimisation for protein bioavailability and gastrointestinal comfort is required.

- Temporary transarticular stabilization with locking compression plate for the treatment of traumatic glenohumeral luxation in 10 dogs. [Case Reports]Vet Surg. 2026 Apr 15. [Online ahead of print]VS
- CONCLUSIONS: Temporary transarticular GHJ stabilization is a possible treatment option in cases of traumatic glenohumeral joint luxation. Further studies are required to determine the minimum immobilization time necessary to achieve joint stability, to assess the long-term complication rate and the possible risks associated with this technique in a controlled population.

- Early-Life and Psychosocial Factors in Adults with Symptoms Consistent with Retrograde Cricopharyngeus Dysfunction. [Journal Article]J Clin Med. 2026 Apr 04; 15(7).JC
- Background: Retrograde cricopharyngeus dysfunction (RCPD) is a recently described upper esophageal sphincter motility disorder caused by the inability of the cricopharyngeus muscle to relax, prohibiting belching. While clinical features and treatment have been reported, early-life experiences remain unclear. This study aimed to explore childhood experiences, comorbidities, and family history in a…

- Oral Health Considerations and Dental Management Guidelines for Semaglutide Medications. [Review]Can J Diabetes. 2026 Apr 10. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- Semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, has demonstrated clinically meaningful weight loss effects in patients with Type 2 diabetes and high BMI, and dental practitioners and physicians are often encountering patients who take these medications. Semaglutide is known to be associated with several systemic side effects, including delayed gastric emptying, belching, reflux and nause…

- Exploring methane phenotypes and their relationship with productive traits in the Spanish Holstein Population. [Journal Article]J Dairy Sci. 2026 Apr 09. [Online ahead of print]JD
- The goal of this study was to evaluate alternative phenotypes for methane emissions in dairy cattle and to estimate their genetic relationships with productive traits. Methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration in exhaled breath and eructation events were measured with sniffers from 2,961 dairy cows across 34 commercial farms in 5 Spanish regions between 2018 and 2023. Records for CO2 c…

- Belching and Reflux: The Relationship and the Underlying Mechanism. [Journal Article]J Neurogastroenterol Motil. 2026 Apr 30; 32(2):254-266.JN
- CONCLUSIONS: : This study demonstrated that belching might trigger reflux by increasing intragastric pressure, elevating the gastric-sphincter pressure gradient, which enables gastric contents to pass through the esophagogastric junction. These findings have crucial clinical significance, suggesting that reducing the occurrence of belching might be a potential treatment for refractory reflux.

- Efficacy of Petasites hybridus in migraine prophylaxis: the first real-world study. [Journal Article]Front Neurol. 2026; 17:1784624.FN
- CONCLUSIONS: Petasites hybridus was well tolerated and reduced the number of headache days per month by ≥50% in 60% of migraine patients within the first 12 weeks, providing a reduction in the degree of disability. Furthermore, Petasites hybridus (Petamig[®]) is free of pyrrolizidine alkaloids, making it appropriate and safe for prescription to patients.

- Gastrointestinal adverse events associated with tirzepatide: A bibliometric and pharmacovigilance analysis. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(3):e0344289.Plos
- CONCLUSIONS: Tirzepatide is associated with an increased risk of GIAEs, particularly among patients with T2DM, males, older adults, and those using concomitant medications. FAERS-based real-world evidence complements clinical trial data and highlights the need for individualized patient monitoring and management strategies.

- Outcomes in the Management of Pediatric Retrograde Cricopharyngeal Dysfunction. [Journal Article]Laryngoscope. 2026 Mar 23. [Online ahead of print]L
- CONCLUSIONS: RCPD presents similarly in both pediatric and adult patients, though the ability to verbally express symptoms may limit recognition in younger patients. Pediatric patients appear to better tolerate expected side effects of treatment and demonstrate a higher overall long-term success rate when compared to adult outcomes in the literature. Increased recognition and treatment of RCPD in children may help minimize long term sequelae of the condition while also affording decreased treatment morbidity.

- Chronic refractory hiccups significantly impair quality of life, especially with prolonged symptom duration. This case highlights the therapeutic potential of a combined interventional approach in managing chronic refractory hiccups, particularly in patients with prolonged symptom duration unresponsive to conventional treatments. A 52-year-old man presented with a 20-year history of persistent, d…

- Symptom Patterns Outside the Rome IV Consensus in Eastern and Western Patients With a Disorder of Gut-Brain Interaction. [Journal Article]Am J Gastroenterol. 2026 Mar 17. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Our study revealed 10 distinct symptom clusters. Some aligned with Rome criteria but other extended beyond its strict anatomical divisions, challenging a key assumption of the Rome classification framework. These results provide novel insight on a multicontinental scale about the complexity of symptom patterns in DGBI and their anatomical relationships.

- Exploring patients' experiences of using Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation for Claudication. [Journal Article]J Vasc Nurs. 2026 Mar; 44(1):30-37.JV
- CONCLUSIONS: TENS may support self-management of claudication pain and enhance physical activity in some individuals with PAD. However, managing patient expectations and addressing device usability are essential to optimise outcomes. Healthcare practitioners may play a key role in supporting education, tailoring advice, and evaluating the appropriateness of TENS as part of individualised care plans.

- Methane profiles assessment in growing Simmental bulls with divergent feed efficiency. [Journal Article]J Anim Sci. 2026 Mar 11. [Online ahead of print]JA
- There is a considerable interest in animal genetic selection to reduce the livestock sector's environmental impact, representing a permanent mitigation strategy. The methane (CH4) total production was correlated to animal efficiency in different studies on dairy cows and steers. Several methods for CH4 quantification have been proposed, such as the laser methane detector (LMD), a reliable, cheap …
