- Percutaneous Iatrogenic Atrial Septal Defect Closure Post Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair: Revisiting MITHRAS Trial in a Larger Cohort. [Journal Article]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e106390.C
- Introduction Transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVR) creates an iatrogenic atrial septal defect (iASD) that may persist and affect hemodynamics. Although the MITHRAS (Closure of Iatrogenic Atrial Septal Defects Following Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair) trial showed no benefit of routine closure, its small size and selective population limit generalizability, and observational data remain conf…

- Pericardial Effusion After Cardiac Surgery: Prevalence, Characteristics, Risk Factors and Management. [Journal Article]J Clin Med. 2026 Apr 18; 15(8).JC
- Background/Objectives: Pericardial effusion (PEf) is a frequent finding after cardiac surgery. Progression to cardiac tamponade (CT) is a rare but life-threatening complication. Current evidence remains limited due to insufficient data on prevalence, progression predictors and management strategies. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed anamnestic, clinical, laboratory, echocardiographic and thera…

- Utility of Prehospital Emergency Resuscitative Thoracotomy in Trauma Patients: An Analysis Using the Japanese Society for Aeromedical Services Registry. [Journal Article]Air Med J. 2026 May-Jun; 45(3):235-240.AM
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that prehospital ERT provides limited survival benefits, with a 0% survival rate in cases of cardiac arrest at EMS contact. Therefore, further research is essential to refine the patient selection criteria and optimize ERT deployment to improve prehospital patient outcomes.

- Long-term clinical outcomes of TAVI in hospitals without on-site cardiac surgery: insights from the MURGIA-TAVI Registry. [Journal Article]J Cardiovasc Med (Hagerstown). 2026 Apr 01; 27(4):268-276.JC
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that TAVI can be safely performed in selected hospitals without on-site cardiac surgery within a structured Heart Team framework and a visiting surgical back-up, potentially expanding access, shortening waiting times, and meeting the growing demand for TAVI.

- The NAVIGATE registry: Early endovascular repair of the ascending aorta with the nexus ascending module. [Journal Article]Interdiscip Cardiovasc Thorac Surg. 2026 Apr 30. [Online ahead of print]IC
- CONCLUSIONS: This small multicentre case series suggests that endovascular repair of isolated zone 0 ascending pathology using the Nexus Ascending Module is technically feasible in highly selected patients; however, these findings are preliminary and hypothesis-generating.

- Fluoroscopy-Free Pulsed Field Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation: A Systematic Review of Procedural Feasibility and Safety. [Review]Pacing Clin Electrophysiol. 2026 Apr 30. [Online ahead of print]PC
- CONCLUSIONS: Fluoroscopy-free PFA for AF appears highly feasible, with uniform acute PVI success and low complication rates. Integration of echocardiographic guidance enables effective catheter navigation and lesion delivery without radiation. Larger, prospective multicenter studies with longer follow-up are needed to confirm long-term efficacy and safety.

- Clinical application of the transseptal puncture technique using a biplane positioning method with left atrial 3D-CT. [Journal Article]Front Cardiovasc Med. 2026; 13:1610164.FC
- Traditional transseptal puncture (TSP) relies on x-ray imaging and anatomical landmarks, which poses challenges in patients with atrial structural variations or overweight. Furthermore, emerging interventional techniques demand precise puncture site localization. This feasibility study evaluates the safety and efficacy of a novel biplane positioning method guided by left atrial (LA) 3D-CT reconst…

- Endoscopic ultrasound-guided transoesophageal pericardiocentesis: a case report on a therapeutic solution for pericardial tamponade with malignant posterior pericardial effusion. [Journal Article]Cardiooncology. 2026 Apr 30. [Online ahead of print]C
- CONCLUSIONS: We present one of few reported cases of successful transoesophageal EUS-guided pericardiocentesis as a potential alternative for pericardial effusion drainage. Improved prognosis in patients with metastatic lung cancer, especially those with actionable genomic aberrations, should be considered for more aggressive therapeutic approaches when no other alternatives exist following clear discussion regarding risks and benefits.

- Acute Stanford Type A Aortic Dissection Mimicking Acalculous Cholecystitis: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Mar; 18(3):e106022.C
- Acute aortic dissection (AAD) is a time-critical cardiovascular emergency that classically presents with abrupt chest or back pain; however, atypical presentations may lead to misdiagnosis, delayed treatment, and worse outcomes. We report a case of AAD presenting with isolated abdominal pain and ultrasound findings mimicking acalculous cholecystitis. A 53-year-old male patient with poorly control…

- ABCDE of complex pericarditis cases. [Journal Article]Heart. 2026 Apr 27. [Online ahead of print]H
- Pericarditis is the most frequent manifestation of pericardial disease and accounts for up to 5% of emergency department visits for chest pain. Although traditionally considered a benign and self-limited condition, it is a heterogeneous syndrome with a broad aetiological spectrum and potentially significant morbidity. While mortality is low, the burden of complications like recurrent disease, car…

- Acute aortic dissection (AAD) is a life-threatening cardiovascular emergency characterized by important sex-related differences in presentation, management, and outcomes. Although women account for a smaller proportion of cases, they typically present at older ages and more frequently exhibit atypical symptoms, hemodynamic instability, and complications such as pericardial effusion or tamponade, …
