- Evaluation and treatment of pericardial disease in immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. [Journal Article]Rheumatology (Oxford). 2026 Jun 01. [Online ahead of print]R
- Pericardial disease is common in patients with immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs), especially in systemic lupus erythematosus. Pericardial disease may present as an asymptomatic pericardial effusion or acute and recurrent pericarditis, and may sometimes lead to complications (cardiac tamponade and constrictive pericarditis). Pathophysiology of pericarditis in IMIDs is likely related to…

- Management of inflammatory cardiopulmonary manifestations in systemic lupus erythematosus: a systematic review. [Journal Article]Adv Rheumatol. 2026 May 29. [Online ahead of print]AR
- CONCLUSIONS: GC and conventional IS currently remain the most evidence-based approaches for managing most cardiopulmonary manifestations in SLE. Despite aggressive immunosuppressive therapies, patients with some conditions, such as LM, ALP, and DAH, still experience high mortality. The quality of the existing evidence and the insights into novel therapies in these patients were limited, highlighting the urgent need for RCTs and optimized management in this area.

[Journal Article]Europace. 2026 May 06; 28(5).E
- With the rapid increase in percutaneous left heart interventions, transseptal access to the left atrium has become a widely used procedure. This technique is crucial for electrophysiological procedures, particularly for atrial fibrillation ablation, which is estimated to be performed in more than 250 000 patients per year worldwide, as well as for various structural heart interventions, like perc…

- Cardiac tamponade following endovascular therapy due to acute aorto-caval leakage after superior vena cava stenting in tuberculosis mediastinal fibrosis. [Case Reports]Radiol Case Rep. 2026 Aug; 21(8):3355-3363.RC
- Superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome results from impaired venous return to the right atrium. While malignancy is the most common cause, benign etiologies such as mediastinal fibrosis are increasingly recognized. Endovascular therapy is considered the first-line treatment due to its high technical success and rapid symptom relief. We report the case of a 47-year-old woman with tuberculosis-related m…

- Substrate ablation as concomitant treatment for left atrial macroreentrant tachycardia (SLICE-LAMRT): rationale and study design. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The SLICE-LAMRT trial will provide the first randomized evidence comparing substrate-guided and activation-guided ablation strategies in LAMRT. By addressing a major unmet clinical need, this study may inform and refine ablation strategies for atypical atrial flutter and support a shift toward substrate-based approaches in complex atrial arrhythmias.

- Primary Cardiac Angiosarcoma Leading to Tamponade and Fatal Right Atrial Rupture. [Case Reports]JACC Case Rep. 2026 May 28; :108385. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: This case illustrates the diagnostic challenges and consequences of a cardiac tumor which was not apparent on serial echocardiograms.Primary cardiac malignancy should be considered in the setting of recurrent pericardial effusion with systemic symptoms and persistently elevated inflammatory markers. Echocardiogram has shown low sensitivity for cardiac tumors in the setting of effusion; advanced imaging modalities can facilitate early detection and intervention.

- Clinical profile, survival, and prognostic determinants in malignant cardiac tamponade requiring pericardiocentesis. [Journal Article]Kardiol Pol. 2026 May 28. [Online ahead of print]KP
- CONCLUSIONS: Malignant cardiac tamponade is a late manifestation of advanced cancer associated with markedly limited survival despite effective acute treatment and temporal changes in oncological case mix. Lung cancer was associated with worse prognosis in multivariable analysis. Malignant cardiac tamponade represents a high-risk oncologic emergency requiring interdisciplinary care.

- Cardiac Tamponade Secondary to Massive Pericardial Effusion in Severe Primary Hypothyroidism: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Int Med Case Rep J. 2026; 19:610746.IM
- CONCLUSIONS: Severe primary hypothyroidism should be routinely considered in patients with unexplained pericardial effusion, even in tuberculosis-endemic settings. Paradoxical bradycardia in tamponade, Woltman's sign, low-voltage electrocardiography, and a protein-rich pericardial effusion with low adenosine deaminase are important diagnostic clues. Prompt pericardiocentesis treats hemodynamic compromise, while cautious levothyroxine replacement prevents recurrence.
