  • Diagnostic challenge of a lower eyelid swelling: A vascular thrombus mimicking a dermoid cyst. [Case Reports]
Oman J Ophthalmol. 2026 May-Aug; 19(2):252-255.Suryawanshi MP, Battashy ASRA, Suryawanshi RMOJ
  • Eyelid and periorbital lesions encompass a wide range of etiologies and clinical presentations, often posing diagnostic challenges. We report a case of a right lower eyelid mass that was initially referred to as a nonresolving chalazion. Clinical suspicion suggested a vascular lesion; however, magnetic resonance imaging indicated a dermoid or epidermoid cyst. Definitive diagnosis was achieved thr…
  • Lower eyelid schwannoma mimicking chalazion in an adolescent. [Case Reports]
    Oman J Ophthalmol. 2026 May-Aug; 19(2):271-274.Siddiqui F, Khan TH, … Singh LOJ
  • To highlight a rare case of eyelid schwannoma in a teenager, clinically mimicking a common chalazion, and confirmed by histopathology and immunohistochemistry. A 15-year-old boy presented with a slowly enlarging, painless right lower eyelid nodule. Initially diagnosed as a chalazion or sebaceous cyst, the lesion was surgically excised. Histopathological examination revealed interwoven fascicles o…
  • Clinical features, treatment outcomes, and risk factors for surgery in pediatric chalazion. [Journal Article]
    Indian J Ophthalmol. 2026 Jul 23. [Online ahead of print]Samant M, Mishra A, … Sengupta SIJ
  • CONCLUSIONS: Most pediatric chalazia resolve within 6 weeks of conservative treatment. Increasing age at presentation was the strongest predictor of surgical intervention. These findings support a time-bound approach to conservative management and highlight the need for prospective studies exploring adjunctive therapies and systemic risk factors.
  • The Influence of Chalazion History on Meibomian Gland Loss and DED. [Journal Article]
    J Ophthalmol. 2026; 2026:9418834.Liu Y, Zhou Y, … Su TJO
  • CONCLUSIONS: Retrospective analysis revealed that a proportion of patients with meibomian gland loss had prior chalazion history, demonstrating distinct ocular surface characteristics compared to nonchalazion patients. Recurrent chalazion episodes and surgical history were identified as significant contributors to meibomian gland loss, with glandular loss severity showing strong correlations with DED clinical parameters. These findings highlight the substantial impact of recurrent chalazion and surgical interventions on meibomian gland dysfunction and DED development, emphasizing the need for early clinical recognition and proactive management.
  • Local Injections of Fluorouracil for Eyelid Hordeolum. [Case Reports]
Plast Reconstr Surg Glob Open. 2026 Jun; 14(6):e7886.Qin M, Liang Y, … Hu JPR
  • Hordeolum is usually self-limited, but a subset of patients develop persistent, symptomatic induration or prefer to avoid incision and curettage in the cosmetically sensitive eyelid. Currently, treatment methods for hordeolum mainly include local warm compresses, local or systemic antibiotic therapy, and abscess incision and drainage. We describe a small case series of 4 female patients with eyel…
  • Systemic Anemia and the Risk of Diabetic Macular Edema and Anti-VEGF Injections. [Journal Article]
Ophthalmol Retina. 2026 Jun 26. [Online ahead of print]Muayad J, Butt FR, … Dahr SSOR
  • CONCLUSIONS: Declining hemoglobin levels are associated with a graded increase in DME risk and anti-VEGF treatment burden across both sexes. The reduced risk observed with iron supplementation suggests that anemia may serve as a modifiable systemic factor in DME pathogenesis, warranting prospective investigation.
  • Teleophthalmology in the Korean Military: An 8-Year Review of Patients Admitted to the Military Telemedicine Team. [Journal Article]
    J Korean Med Sci. 2026 Jun 15; 41(23):e163.Yoon JS, Kwon S, … Kim MJK
  • CONCLUSIONS: This was the first long-term analysis of a military teleophthalmology program in South Korea. The study findings demonstrate the effectiveness of telemedicine in remote military environments, and underscore the need for protective equipment and task-specific safety training. Further development of remote diagnostic tools and targeted preventive strategies is warranted to reduce injury-related evacuations and to support combat readiness.
  • Anterior Segment Eye Diseases and Quality of Life: An Updated Comprehensive Narrative Review. [Review]
    J Ophthalmic Vis Res. 2026; 21.Khorrami-Nejad M, Narooie-Noori F, … Daya SJO
  • Anterior segment eye diseases significantly affect patients' quality of life (QoL) by impairing physical health, psychological well-being, social interactions, and economic stability. Conditions such as dry eye disease, blepharitis, conjunctivitis, keratoconus, keratitis, and corneal dystrophies cause chronic discomfort, visual disturbance, and emotional distress, leading to reduced daily functio…
  • Twenty years of chalazion, big data analysis. [Journal Article]
Orbit. 2026 May 25; :1-8. [Online ahead of print]Giladi Y, Tiosano A, Ben Artsi EO
  • CONCLUSIONS: Most chalazia resolve with conservative management. Age and climate significantly influence both incidence and treatment outcomes. These findings underscore the role of environmental and demographic factors in a chalazion's clinical course and may guide more tailored management strategies.
