- Prevalence and impact of peripheral artery disease in diabetic foot: A retrospective multicenter cohort from three tertiary vascular centers in Saudi Arabia. [Journal Article]J Tissue Viability. 2026 May 05; 35(3):101014. [Online ahead of print]JT
- CONCLUSIONS: PAD was common in tertiary DFU care, linked to major amputation and poor limb survival. The non-routine TP/TBI use prior to decisions, and 0% revascularization on admission, indicate a care gap. Toe perfusion tests, risk stratification, duplex imaging, and revascularization before debridement are recommended.

- Regenerative therapies for complex diabetic foot wounds: a therapeutic challenge. [Journal Article]J Vasc Bras. 2026; 25:e20250071.JV
- Diabetic foot ulcers are a leading cause of morbidity, hospitalization, and nontraumatic lower-extremity amputation in patients with diabetes mellitus. Effective management of these wounds requires a multidisciplinary approach and combined therapies addressing infection control, perfusion optimization, and stimulation of tissue regeneration. This case report describes a patient with a severe infe…

- The effect of a national healthcare cyberattack on the Irish hip fracture standards. [Journal Article]Surgeon. 2026 May 06. [Online ahead of print]S
- CONCLUSIONS: The cyberattack disproportionately affected IT-dependent standards, with significant declines in timely surgery and a trend toward deterioration in ward admission. Orthogeriatric review improved unexpectedly, possibly reflecting increased geriatrician availability due to disruption of elective activity.

- Protective effects of the selective JAK2/3 inhibitor AG490 against ulcer formation following cutaneous ischemia-reperfusion injury. [Journal Article]J Dermatol Sci. 2026 Mar 09. [Online ahead of print]JD
- CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated the protective effect of AG490 against I/R-induced skin damage through the attenuation of inflammation and oxidative stress, highlighting JAK inhibition as a promising approach for pressure ulcer prevention.

- Use of wipes with emollient and barrier properties for the prevention of pressure injuries: a multicentre randomised controlled trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]BMJ Open. 2026 May 06; 16(5):e106846.BO
- CONCLUSIONS: The use of wipes with emollient and barrier properties significantly reduced the incidence of PIs and prolonged the time to first PI, demonstrating efficacy as a PI preventive strategy in aged care.

- Low-fidelity simulation for necrotic wound debridement: design, implementation, and student satisfaction in undergraduate nursing education. [Journal Article]J Tissue Viability. 2026 Apr 20; 35(3):100998. [Online ahead of print]JT
- CONCLUSIONS: The simulation was associated with high levels of student satisfaction and self-confidence and acceptable knowledge scores. The model appears to be a feasible and low-cost educational tool for undergraduate nursing education. Further studies using objective performance-based assessments are needed to determine its impact on procedural competence.

- Trends in the burden of decubitus ulcers among individuals aged 70 years and above in low- and middle-income countries, 1990-2023. [Journal Article]Arch Gerontol Geriatr. 2026 Apr 29; 148:106283. [Online ahead of print]AG
- CONCLUSIONS: The burden of decubitus ulcers among older adults in LMICs is intensifying, driven mainly by population aging with notable regional variations. Stratified interventions based on economic development are recommended, shifting the focus from reducing incidence to alleviating severity and mortality risk.

- How much pressure causes a diabetic foot ulcer? An 18-month prospective study investigating plantar pressure characteristics in the lead up to ulceration. [Journal Article]Diabetes Res Clin Pract. 2026 May 03; :113293. [Online ahead of print]DR
- CONCLUSIONS: Plantar pressures during daily activities were continuously measured in the three months preceding DFU using an intelligent insole system, with a greater number of minutes and bouts of sustained plantar pressure preceding DFU development. Daily monitoring of sustained pressure areas, using insole systems, may prove useful for preventing DFU development.

- Incidence of pressure ulcers in ICU patients with ARDS positioned in the prone position: a retrospective single-centre cohort study. [Journal Article]J Tissue Viability. 2026 May 01; 35(3):101012. [Online ahead of print]JT
- CONCLUSIONS: Despite standardized protocols, pressure ulcers remain common during prolonged prone positioning, especially on the face. These findings emphasize the need for validated diagnostic tools, targeted facial protection, and optimized micro-positioning strategies to reduce risk.

- ObjectivesThis study aimed to examine the clinical progression of Stage 2, 3, and 4 pressure ulcers (PUs) in patients receiving palliative care, and to assess the psychosocial burden and burnout levels among their primary caregivers. Additionally, it sought to identify patient- and caregiver-related factors that may influence short-term mortality.MethodsA total of 96 patients with advanced-stage …

- Effect of Teach-Back Training on the Knowledge Level of Family Caregivers of Patients at Risk of Pressure Injury Requiring Home Care. [Journal Article]Home Healthc Now. 2026 May-Jun 01; 44(3):193-198.HH
- Family caregivers play a critical role in preventing pressure injuries among patients receiving home care. This quasi-experimental pre- and post-test study evaluated the effect of teach-back training on caregivers' knowledge of pressure injury prevention in 2024 within the neurology department of a teaching hospital in Iran. A total of 110 family caregivers of patients requiring home care partici…

- Knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding pressure injury prevention among prehospital emergency medical personnel: a cross-sectional survey. [Journal Article]Front Public Health. 2026; 14:1781417.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: Prehospital emergency medical personnel exhibited a positive attitude toward PI prevention, but their knowledge and practices did not reach the desired level. It is recommended to enhance PI-related training, particularly in knowledge dissemination and the implementation of practices, to further improve the PI prevention capabilities of pre-hospital emergency medical personnel, ensuring skin safety for patients during transport.

- Combined Therapy With Incisional Negative Pressure Wound Therapy and Penrose Drainage for Flap Surgery. [Case Reports]Plast Reconstr Surg Glob Open. 2026 Mar; 14(3):e7376.PR
- Pressure ulcers are well recognized, yet severe cases often require surgical closure. However, contaminated wounds and external forces from postoperative positioning can lead to high complication rates, prolonging treatment and increasing burdens on patients, providers, and healthcare costs. Negative pressure wound therapy has traditionally been used for chronic ulcers and traumatic wounds, and r…

- Clinical Efficacy and Biomechanical Behavior of Different Compression Systems in Venous Ulcers: Pressure, Stiffness and Healing. [Journal Article]Life (Basel). 2026 Apr 01; 16(4).L
- CONCLUSIONS: The efficacy of compression in venous ulcers depends on both the interface pressure and the design and biomechanical behavior of the system, with clinically relevant differences between multicomponent dressings. Multipoint pressure and stiffness monitoring provides useful information to optimize system selection and support decisions based on biomechanical parameters and standardized clinical outcomes.
