  • CONCLUSIONS: This updated synthesis demonstrates that cryptosporidiosis remains a substantial health burden in HIV/AIDS patients, with notable genetic diversity reflecting both anthroponotic and zoonotic transmission routes. The strong association with immunosuppression, as evidenced by low CD4 counts and diarrheal symptoms, underscores its clinical relevance. These findings highlight the urgent need for improved surveillance, molecular epidemiology, and preventive interventions to mitigate the impact of Cryptosporidium spp. in vulnerable populations.
  • Anemia, wasting syndrome, and tattooing: A clinical triad to suspect HIV in the community. [Case Reports]
    J Family Med Prim Care. 2026 Mar; 15(3):1432-1436.Singh H, Pilania J, … Nishad AJF
  • Anemia, wasting syndrome, and a history of tattooing form a rare and concerning triad observed in cases of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Although the overall prevalence of HIV/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) has decreased globally, there is an alarming rise in the risk of transmission linked to unregulated or unlicensed tattooing practices. In this case report, we presen…
  • HIV and Hickam's Dictum: Multiple Opportunistic Infections. [Case Reports]
    ACG Case Rep J. 2026 May; 13(5):e02100.Patel P, Rampersad A, … Roth PAC
  • Opportunistic infections are common in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) or advanced human immunodeficiency virus infection when adherence to anti-retroviral is poor. We present a case report of multiple opportunistic infections simultaneously present in a patient with AIDS who presented with fevers, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. He was ultimately diagnosed with Streptococcu…
  • Herpes simplex virus esophagitis in an immunocompromised patient: case report of an atypical presentation. [Case Reports]
Rev Peru Med Exp Salud Publica. 2025 Nov 17; 42(4):436-441.Layza-Reyes GD, León-Mejía CM, … Bellido-Caparó ÁRP
  • We present the case of a 28-year-old male with diarrhea, headache, and significant weight loss. He was diagnosed with HIV in the AIDS stage (CD4: 3 cells/μL), Cryptococcus neoformans meningoencephalitis, and multisystemic tuberculosis. Given the persistence of diarrhea and negative coproparasitological studies, endoscopic studies were performed. Upper digestive endoscopy incidentally showed esoph…
  • Disseminated Histoplasmosis in a Patient With HIV Infection Untreated for 23 Years. [Case Reports]
Cureus. 2026 Jan; 18(1):e101167.Milton AN, Momah TC
  • Histoplasmosis is a potentially life-threatening opportunistic fungal infection in patients with advanced human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), particularly in endemic regions such as the Ohio and Mississippi River valleys. Despite advances in antiretroviral therapy, delayed diagnosis, lack of linkage to care, and treatment nonadherence continue to contribute to severe opportunistic infections in i…
