- Electrocardiographic markers of right heart strain and their association with arrhythmias in patients with COPD. [Journal Article]J Electrocardiol. 2026 Jun 01; 97:154377. [Online ahead of print]JE
- CONCLUSIONS: ECG markers of right heart strain, particularly P pulmonale and RVH, are independent predictors of arrhythmias in COPD patients. ECG may serve as a simple, non-invasive tool for early risk stratification and identification of patients who may benefit from closer rhythm monitoring. The relatively small sample size and single-centre design may limit the generalizability of the findings.

- Prevalence and characteristics of normal electrocardiograms in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. [Journal Article]J Electrocardiol. 2026 May-Jun; 96:154363.JE
- CONCLUSIONS: A completely normal ECG was observed in only 1.6% of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. While a normal ECG substantially lowers the likelihood of HCM, it does not exclude the diagnosis. Despite advances in imaging, the ECG remains a simple, accessible, and indispensable screening tool for early detection.

- Criss-cross heart electrocardiographic analysis. Bicentric study. [Journal Article]J Electrocardiol. 2026 Apr 28; 97:154268. [Online ahead of print]JE
- CONCLUSIONS: The electrocardiographic analysis of these patients allows us to visualize the situs, position of the cardiac chambers, and associated defects in patients with criss-cross heart. It is useful for the diagnostic orientation of the echocardiographer and therefore contributes initially to the echocardiographic study.

- A Novel Minimally Invasive Porcine Model of Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation. [Journal Article]J Cardiovasc Dev Dis. 2026 Apr 14; 13(4).JC
- Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is a prevalent cardiovascular disorder with significant clinical impact. TR is frequently silent and underdiagnosed and is estimated to impact over 70 million people globally. Characterized by retrograde blood flow from the right ventricle into the right atrium due to incomplete valve closure, TR leads to right heart dilation, systemic congestion, and eventually right…

- Role of Electrocardiogram for the Detection of Cardiac Diseases in a Healthy Primary School Population: Data from the "Cuore e Scuola" Study. [Journal Article]
- ECG is the most used tools in cardiology. Some life-threatening arrhythmias and cardiac abnormalities can be diagnosed with ECG. The aim is to assess the role of ECG for the detection of cardiac disease in children, from September 2014 to January 2020, ECG was performed in 52 primary school in Como. 5793 children (49.4% female) aged 8.1 (± 1.3) years had an ECG; 79 (1.3%) were abnormal due to the…

- Validation of AI-enhanced ECG image analysis for identifying extreme cardiac magnetic resonance metrics in a cross-ethnic UK biobank study. [Journal Article]
- Artificial intelligence enhanced electrocardiography (AI-ECG) has shown promise in detecting cardiac abnormalities, but validation against cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), the reference standard for cardiac structure and function, remains limited. We evaluated the diagnostic performance of six AI-ECG models in identifying CMR-defined cardiac abnormalities in a population-based cohort. This cohor…

- Beyond the murmur: unmasking a rare sinus venosus ASD in an adolescent with chronic respiratory infections: A case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: Sinus venosus type ASD is an infrequent etiology of persistent respiratory problems in adolescents. Early detection by thorough clinical and echocardiographic assessment, followed by timely surgical intervention, may lead to superior functional recovery and improved long-term quality of life.

- Characterisation and prognostic implications of the 12-lead electrocardiogram in children with RASopathy-associated hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. [Journal Article]Heart. 2026 May 26; 112(12):692-696.H
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that the 12-lead ECG may be a useful screening tool to distinguish RAS-HCM from s-HCM in everyday practice and could have potential implications for prediction of adverse outcomes.

- Limited Utility of Screening Electrocardiograms in Systemic Sclerosis: Data from the Canadian Scleroderma Research Group. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that conduction abnormalities are not more prevalent in those with SSc than in controls. Evidence of right heart stress on EKG in SSc may be secondary to pulmonary hypertension and left atrial enlargement, and poor R wave progression in precordial leads may indicate myocardial damage. Future studies are required to determine if these EKG abnormalities represent underlying structural heart disease, and, until that is proven, EKGs should not be considered a screening tool for cardiac abnormalities in SSc.

- Refractory Atrial Tachyarrhythmias Management in Severely Dilated Right Atrium Due to Complex Congenital Heart Disease: Clinical Perspectives Beyond Catheter Ablation. [Journal Article]
- Refractory atrial tachyarrhythmias frequently occur in patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) who have a markedly enlarged right atrium (RA). The obfective of this study was to elucidate arrhythmogenic substrates and evaluate the comprehensive treatment outcomes in patients with complex CHD and a giant RA (≥190 mL). Ten patients with complex CHD and a giant RA who underwent catheter ablatio…

- ECG criteria for diagnosing left chambers disease in Pediatrics: The CHILDHEART study. [Journal Article]J Electrocardiol. 2025 Sep-Oct; 92:154087.JE
- CONCLUSIONS: Standard ECG criteria may not be adequate for diagnosing LA and LV disease in pediatric patients. The RI + RV6 index, using a single cutoff across ages, and age-stratified thresholds for the Modified Peguero-Lo Presti index may improve diagnostic accuracy.

- Mechanistic Insights Into Reduced Arrhythmia Prevalence in Female Endurance Athletes. [Journal Article]JACC Clin Electrophysiol. 2025 Oct; 11(10):2225-2237.JC
- CONCLUSIONS: Lower rates of AF and nonsustained ventricular tachycardia in female athletes may be attributed to smaller atrial and ventricular volumes and reduced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, although there are likely additional modulating factors. A comparable prevalence of ectopy suggests that the disparity in arrhythmia risk may be more attributable to differences in underlying substrate than arrhythmogenic triggers.

- ECG Screening in Athletes: A Systematic Review of Sport, Age, and Gender Variations. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: This review emphasizes the complexity of ECG interpretation in athletes, highlighting sport-specific, gender-based, and age-related variations. The persistent high false-positive rates underscore the need for refined, sport-specific ECG guidelines. Recent recognition of sports medicine as a primary specialty within the European Union (EU) reinforces the importance of comprehensive physician training. Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technology into ECG screening can enhance diagnostic accuracy, reduce costs, and facilitate large-scale implementation. Meanwhile, collaborative efforts among clinicians, researchers, and policymakers are essential to developing cost-effective and standardized ECG screening protocols, ensuring improved athlete care, and advancing the field of sports cardiology.

- 'Le plus important est invisible': congenital pericardial defect with structural, electrophysiological, and haemodynamic alterations induced by postural changes-a case report. [Case Reports]
- The principal roles of the pericardium include protection from microorganisms, prevention of cardiac friction, and restriction of unlimited dilation of the heart. In the case of a congenital pericardial defect in which structural, electrophysiological, and haemodynamic abnormalities manifested during postural changes, we propose another indispensable pericardial function of cardiac central anchor…
