- Tympanic papillary adenoma (tympanic papilloma) in a cat - a case report. [Journal Article]J Comp Pathol. 2026 Aug 19; 229:50-53. [Online ahead of print]JC
- A 9-year-old cat presented with an inflammatory discharge and a polypoid mass located in the left ear canal, penetrating the tympanic membrane. The polypoid mass was removed surgically using traction-avulsion but not submitted for histological examination. Subsequently, the cat underwent computed tomography of the head, which revealed an irregular mass located in the left tympanic bulla. The mass…

- Global, regional, and national burden of HIV/AIDS, 1990-2023, with the estimated burden attributable to intimate partner violence and forecasted impacts of funding cuts through 2030: results from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023. [Journal Article]Lancet HIV. 2026 Aug 18. [Online ahead of print]LH
- CONCLUSIONS: Despite two decades of substantial progress, the global HIV response remains highly sensitive to gendered social determinants and funding stability. The potential contribution of IPV to HIV-related mortality among women underscores the need for integrated interventions that address violence prevention and post-violence care alongside HIV treatment. The projected effects of funding cuts-millions of additional infections and deaths-highlight the fragility of the gains achieved and the urgent need to protect HIV financing. Achieving and sustaining the UNAIDS 2030 targets will require renewed investment, gender-responsive programming, and resilient health systems capable of providing equitable access to care.

- Etiology and Clinical Characteristics of Conductive Hearing Loss at a Tertiary Hospital in Sudan. [Journal Article]
- Background Conductive hearing loss (CHL) is a significant contributor to hearing impairment, especially in low-income settings. Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is often a dominant cause in developing regions. This study examined the causes and clinical profiles of patients with CHL at Khartoum Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Hospital. Methods We conducted a retrospective descriptive cross-sect…

- Ear Hygiene Practices, Ear Morbidity Amidst Environmental Noise in Urban Slums: Evidence to Recommend Comprehensive Ear Care Under Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in Eastern India. [Journal Article]
- BackgroundEnvironmental noise is an under-recognised public health hazard in rapidly urbanising low- and middle-income countries. Urban slum residents are disproportionately exposed to chronic transportation and occupational noise, yet community-level evidence linking noise exposure with ear morbidity remains limited in India.ObjectivesTo assess the association between environmental noise exposur…

- Mastoid cortex osteoma associated with middle-ear and mastoid cholesteatoma: a case report. [Case Reports]
- Osteomas of the temporal bone are rare benign tumors that, in a small minority of cases, may give rise to secondary cholesteatoma. We report a case in which two independent pathological mechanisms appeared to coexist, resulting in a configuration not previously described in the literature. A 51-year-old woman presented with one year of right-sided otorrhoea and progressive mixed hearing loss unre…

- Isolated Congenital Ossicular Chain Anomalies. [Case Reports]
- Isolated congenital ossicular chain anomalies (COCAs) are an uncommon cause of conductive hearing loss in patients with a normal external auditory canal and tympanic membrane, and familial clustering is rarely described. We report three siblings with non-progressive conductive hearing loss and normal otoscopic findings. Two siblings exhibited bilateral involvement, whereas the third had unilatera…

- Innovations in conservative and surgical therapy for Ménière's disease-narrative review. [Review]Front Neurol. 2026; 17:1866969.FN
- Ménière's disease (MD) is an inner ear disorder of poorly understood etiology, and its management remains symptomatic. This review presents novel therapeutic approaches to control vertigo, improve audiological function, and enhance patient outcomes in MD. The literature was reviewed to explore conservative and surgical methods under current investigation. Recent advances in pharmacological therap…

- Objective:To analyze the clinical efficacy of tympanoplasty in patients with chronic suppurative otitis media(CSOM) complicated by fungal infection through a prospective randomized controlled study, and to explore the optimal surgical timing for chronic otitis media patients accompanied by fungal infection. Methods:A total of 92 patients diagnosed with chronic otitis media who were admitted to Yi…

- Two-handed endoscopic lateral temporal bone resection for squamous cell carcinoma of external auditory canal. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Aug 03; 19(8).BC
- A woman in her 20s presented with a 3-month history of progressive right-sided otalgia. Otoendoscopic examination revealed a greyish mass occluding more than 75% of the external auditory canal. Biopsy confirmed well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. High-resolution CT demonstrated cortical erosions of the anterior and posterior bony external auditory canal with mastoid involvement. The pati…

- The audiologic characteristics for children with cochlear nerve deficiency and the association with the outcome of cochlear implant surgery. [Journal Article]Ann Med. 2026 Dec; 58(1):2706968.AM
- CONCLUSIONS: The presence of a distinctive positive waveform in auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing may indicate preserved residual auditory pathway integrity in CND patients. This characteristic may serve as a prognostic indicator for CI outcomes, warranting further investigation in larger, longitudinal cohorts.

- Experimental analysis of cartilage graft positioning in tympanoplasty and its impact on middle ear mechanics. [Journal Article]Hear Res. 2026 Jul 23; 480:109752. [Online ahead of print]HR
- CONCLUSIONS: In this temporal bone study, placing the cartilage on the bony ear canal wall did not have an impact on the METF. FE modeling supported the temporal bone findings and suggested that similar behavior could be expected in vivo with a closed tympanic cavity. However, the FE-model suggests that perforation‑induced losses were substantially underestimated in the temporal bone measurements with an experimentally opened tympanic cavity. Positioning of the cartilage graft on the bony ear canal can be advantageous in patients with chronic middle-ear disease to reduce the risk of medialization and formation of retraction pockets without compromising the patients hearing outcome.

- Hypoglossal nerve palsy secondary to cervical spondylosis mimicking angio-oedema. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Jul 30; 19(7).BC
- A man in his 50s, with a history of cervical spondylosis, presented with acute right-sided tongue swelling, dysarthria and dysphagia. Although tongue deviation was present, unilateral tongue oedema led to initial suspicion of angio-oedema and malignancy; however, blood tests and tongue MRI did not lead to a definitive diagnosis. Tranexamic acid was prescribed for presumed angio-oedema; however, a…

- CONCLUSIONS: TTEMRM appears to be a useful technique for selected cases of extensive mastoid cholesteatoma requiring an open-cavity approach. Avoidance of an external incision and excellent visualization of the surgical field are among the advantages of this procedure.

- Functional head impulse test and video head impulse test in interictal Ménière's disease and inferior vestibular neuritis: a preliminary comparative study. [Journal Article]Front Neurol. 2026; 17:1851411.FN
- CONCLUSIONS: MD and IVN showed contrasting patterns: MD exhibited selective lesion-side FHIT-H reduction with preserved vHIT, whereas IVN showed selective posterior canal vHIT reduction with normal FHIT-H laterality. These findings suggest that FHIT may reflect endolymphatic hydrops-related functional vestibular changes distinct from the structural nerve lesions characteristic of IVN. FHIT may be a useful adjunct for detecting functional vestibular asymmetry in interictal MD; these findings are hypothesis-generating and require replication in larger prospective cohorts.
