- Descemet Membrane Detachment During Ab-Interno Canaloplasty. [Case Reports]Int Ophthalmol Clin. 2026 Jul 01; 66(3):36-39.IO
- Canaloplasty is a minimally invasive glaucoma procedure that aims to restore aqueous outflow through the Schlemm canal. Despite its excellent safety profile, complications can occur, including hyphema, creation of a cyclodialysis cleft, and incorrect passage of the catheter into the suprachoroidal space. Descemet membrane detachment (DMD) is an infrequent complication of canaloplasty and can be a…

- Subclinical Vestibular Involvement in Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media: Perforation Size and Mediolateral Postural Sway. [Journal Article]Am J Audiol. 2026 Jun 16; :1-12. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: CSOM is associated with subclinical yet measurable impairments in vestibular function and postural stability, characterized by preserved high-frequency semicircular canal function on vHIT but significant mediolateral instability on posturography, even in the absence of self-reported dizziness. These findings indicate early vestibular-mediated balance deficits beyond conductive hearing loss and underscore the importance of routine vestibular assessment for timely identification and targeted rehabilitation.

- Evidence‑informed decision aid for fitness‑to‑dive assessment after otologic surgery. [Review]Diving Hyperb Med. 2026 Jun 30; 56(2):177-184.DH
- CONCLUSIONS: Relevant evidence is limited and heterogeneous, and does not consistently support blanket prohibitions for all otologic procedures. A function-based, individualised approach is supported, while specific higher-risk scenarios warrant restriction. Prospective registries and standardised outcome reporting are needed to refine procedure-specific recommendations.

- A Systematic Review and Quality Assessment of Clinical Practice Guidelines for Otitis Externa to Support the WHO Package of Ear and Hearing Care Interventions. [Journal Article]Otol Neurotol. 2026 Jun 12. [Online ahead of print]ON
- CONCLUSIONS: The clinical practice guidelines identified key interventions related to the prevention, diagnosis, and management of otitis externa. These interventions will be used to inform the development of the PEHCI, which will identify priority ear and hearing care interventions that can be integrated into national health services packages and policies.

- High-Grade Temporal Bone Sarcoma Mimicking Cholesteatoma During Pregnancy: A Diagnostic Pitfall and Multidisciplinary Challenge. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 May; 18(5):e108462.C
- Osteosarcoma of the head and neck is an uncommon malignancy with heterogeneous clinical and radiological presentations, often leading to diagnostic challenges. Its occurrence during pregnancy further complicates management due to the need to balance maternal and fetal outcomes. We report the case of a 23-year-old pregnant woman who initially presented with right-sided otalgia, managed as otitis e…

- Inferior ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Presenting as Left Otalgia: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 May; 18(5):e108451.C
- Diabetic populations are predisposed to atypical, or sometimes silent, responses to myocardial ischemia. This is often the result of chronic neuropathy involving the nociceptive sympathetic pathways of the heart that converge at the T1-T4/5 spinal columns. When these signals are blunted, ischemic pain signals may be delivered via the "Arnold's nerve," the auricular branch of the vagus that innerv…

- Algorithmic approach to skin diseases of the ear. [Journal Article]Clin Dermatol. 2026 Jun 04. [Online ahead of print]CD
- Skin diseases of the external ear (auricle and external auditory canal) are not uncommon. The major findings include erythema, pain, edema, discharge, pruritus, and changes in the shape of the ears. Infectious diseases are quite common in infants and children, inflammatory diseases are more prevalent in adolescents and adults, while keratinocytic malignancies increase by age. The dermatologist ca…

- Case Report: When infection mimics autonomic failure: postural hypotension secondary to skull base osteomyelitis. [Case Reports]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1795309.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights skull base osteomyelitis as an important differential diagnosis in older, frail patients with diabetes who present with chronic ear disease, cranial neuropathy and otherwise unexplained refractory orthostatic hypotension. In this patient, inflammation adjacent to the carotid canal/carotid sinus region may have contributed, although causality could not be proven, and alternative contributors to autonomic dysfunction remained possible.

- Epithelial and non-epithelial tumors of the external ear. [Journal Article]Clin Dermatol. 2026 Jun 01. [Online ahead of print]CD
- Several benign and malignant tumors may be observed on the skin of the external ear at various ages, and some are specifically located in this area. Large lesions may be disfiguring and impair hearing by obstructing the external auditory canal. They may also cause chronic ulcerations and, in some cases, secondary destruction of underlying cartilage. The management of some external ear tumors requ…

- Global burden of enteric infectious diseases, diarrhoeal diseases, and corresponding aetiologies, 1990-2023: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings show that mortality and ASMRs of enteric infectious diseases declined substantially between 1990 and 2023. This decline is consistent with the expansion of public health measures and broader socioeconomic development. However, the burden in 2023 remains considerably high, with the highest mortality concentrated in sub-Saharan Africa and south Asia. Considering that more than a quarter of all countries had yet to meet the GAPPD mortality target in 2023, sustained efforts are needed to address the persistent burden in affected countries and to adapt to the changing global health landscape.

- Acquired external auditory canal stenosis: clinical characteristics, surgical strategies and prognostic analysis. [Journal Article]Front Pediatr. 2026; 14:1814290.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: This study tentatively indicates that there exist disparities in the clinical characteristics of acquired external auditory canal stenosis between children and adults. The risk of postoperative restenosis in children is notably elevated, and this tendency might be associated with the inherent anatomical fragility and robust tissue proliferation capacity in children. Comprehensive preoperative imaging assessment, individualized surgical plan development, standardized drug-eluting stent implantation, structured long-term postoperative follow-up, and postoperative care may be conducive to enhancing the prognosis of acquired external auditory canal stenosis in children. Multicenter prospective studies with a larger sample size are required to further validate the optimal treatment strategy for acquired external auditory canal stenosis in children.

- The Association between Demodex Infestation and Hair Loss Severity in a Referred Patient Population. [Journal Article]J Arthropod Borne Dis. 2025 Sep; 19(3):201-208.JA
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings establish a highly significant, direct correlation between the severity of hair loss and the density of Demodex mite infestation (p< 0.001). We propose that high Demodex mite density is a significant contributory factor in the etiology of severe hair loss.

- Accurate sleep assessment relies on the high-quality, long-term acquisition of physiological signals. However, traditional polysomnography (PSG) relies on cumbersome equipment with poor user comfort and often interferes with the user's sleep quality. Herein, a wearable in-ear EEG sleep monitoring and intervention platform is developed based on a poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT)/leather co…
