- A Scoping Review of Pharmacologic and Nonpharmacologic Interventions to Treat Chronic Ocular Pain. [Journal Article]J Neuroophthalmol. 2026 Sep 01; 46(3):301-316.JN
- CONCLUSIONS: Although COP is a common symptom, we found few studies on pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatment interventions with a few randomized controlled trials. Rigorous studies of treatment interventions aimed at reducing COP are needed. We provide recommendations for both the conduct of future studies and the current approach to COP treatment.

- Treatment of neurotrophic keratitis (NTK) remains one of the challenges in ophthalmology. This article presents a case of successful use of recombinant nerve growth factor in the treatment of NK in a child with ichthyosis follicularis, atrichia, and photophobia (IFAP syndrome), type 2. The child had blepharospasm and extensive corneal epithelial defects with superficial vascularization in both ey…

- Evaluation of the Painful Eye. [Review]Am Fam Physician. 2026 Jul; 114(1):65-71.AF
- Eye pain is a common presentation in outpatient, urgent care, and emergency settings. Causes range from benign to vision-threatening. Family physicians should promptly identify red-flag features that require urgent or emergent ophthalmology referral. A painful eye with vision loss, severe photophobia, proptosis, hyphema, or corneal ulceration is a medical emergency. Patient history should include…
- Electroacupuncture Ameliorates Scopolamine-Induced Dry Eye Disease in Mice by Restoring Lacrimal Gland Lipid Homeostasis and Reducing IL-1β/IL-18 Expression. [Journal Article]J Immunol Res. 2026; 2026(1):e5191118.JI
- Dry eye disease (DED) can lead to severe eye discomfort, which manifests as dryness, pain and decreased vision, and significantly affects daily life. This study elucidated the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) intervention on DED and clarified its potential mechanisms through changes in lacrimal gland lipid metabolism and inflammation. A DED mouse model was established by repeated subcutaneous i…

- Ocular mpox in Southern Nigeria during the 2022 and 2024 outbreaks: a report of two cases. [Case Reports]
- There are significant knowledge gaps regarding the burden and clinical progression of ocular manifestations of mpox in Nigeria and worldwide. Here, we report two laboratory-confirmed mpox cases among young male adults with distinct ocular mpox presentations at two tertiary hospitals in southern Nigeria during the 2022 and 2024 global outbreaks. The first patient, a 28-year-old man, presented at t…

- Migraine Headaches in a Pediatric Patient With SETD5-Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder and Inflammatory Comorbidities: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- SETD5-related neurodevelopmental disorder is a rare genetic condition caused by a mutation in the SETD5 gene, which has previously been shown to cause intellectual disability (ID) along with dysmorphic facies, behavioral difficulties, congenital heart defects, and developmental delays. This report describes an eight-year-old patient with known SETD5 and inflammatory conditions who presented for e…

- Effectiveness of adjunctive herbal medicine in the management of post-stroke thalamic pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Evidence from this systematic review indicates that adjunctive herbal medicine combined with WM may have potential benefits in reducing pain, anxiety, and depression, and improving clinical response in patients with PSTP. However, these findings should be interpreted with caution due to methodological limitations and the exclusive inclusion of studies from China. Further rigorous, multicenter, and multinational trials are needed to confirm these findings.

- Severe visual impairment as a complication of autism spectrum disorder. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Electrophysiological assessments, including ERG and (PVEP) were central to establishing an accurate diagnosis in cases where resolution of anterior segment lesions due to keratomalacia did not result in visual improvement. These tests are critical for the identification and monitoring of nutritional optic neuropathy.

- Invasive pneumococcal disease by serotype 23B in an asplenic unvaccinated patient: A case report. [Case Reports]
- Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) is a life-threatening infection caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, particularly in immunocompromised individuals, such as those with asplenia. Although pneumococcal vaccination has reduced the incidence of vaccine-covered serotypes, non-vaccine serotypes, including serotype 23B, have emerged as the predominant cause of IPD. This case report describes a 67-year…

- A 12-year-old girl presented with pain, swelling, and decreased vision in the left eye of 1-month duration. She had a significant history of left Wilms' tumor treated with left radical nephrectomy and chemotherapy at three years of age. Ocular examination revealed massive left proptosis, inferior globe dystopia, visual acuity of 20/160, ptosis, conjunctival chemosis, and corneal exposure changes.…

- Diagnosis of syphilitic chorioretinopathy in a patient with a history of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis and previous optic neuritis. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Aug 13; 19(8).BC
- Syphilis can present with diverse ocular manifestations, including optic nerve and retinal involvement, often mimicking inflammatory or demyelinating disorders. In patients with pre-existing demyelinating conditions, new visual symptoms are frequently attributed to demyelination, which may delay recognition of coexisting syphilitic eye disease. We report a man in his 40s with relapsing-remitting …

- Bilateral Acanthamoeba Keratitis Secondary to Contaminated Contact Lens Suction Applicators: A Rare Case of Accessory-Mediated Transmission. [Case Reports]Case Rep Ophthalmol. 2026 Jan-Dec; 17(1):824-829.CR
- CONCLUSIONS: This case underscores a critical blind spot in patient education regarding accessory hygiene. Suction applicators can act as a reservoir for Acanthamoeba and provide a route for inoculation onto the ocular surface. We recommend that these tools undergo regular replacement and be handled with strict no-water protocols. Clinicians should specifically audit and advise on the hygiene of handling tools, particularly in RGP and scleral lens populations.
