- Diagnosis and management of acute eosinophilic pneumonia masquerading as malignancy and community-acquired pneumonia in an elderly male: a case report. [Case Reports]AME Case Rep. 2026; 10:99.AC
- CONCLUSIONS: This case underscores that AEP can present features highly suggestive of malignancy in elderly patients. A high index of suspicion is required when radiographic findings are incongruent with the clinical course. An MDT approach is invaluable and BAL fluid cytological analysis is a crucial diagnostic step. Lung biopsy may be necessary, in complex cases, to exclude alternative diagnosis.

- Targeted next-generation sequencing reveals pathogen spectrum, drug resistance characteristics, and clinical determinants in children with community-acquired pneumonia. [Journal Article]Transl Pediatr. 2026 May 31; 15(5):178.TP
- CONCLUSIONS: Age, fever duration, and lobar pneumonia may assist in the assessment of MP infection. MP-IgM (colloidal gold assay) results should be interpreted in conjunction with other clinical indicators. The use of tetracyclines for MP infection requires careful benefit-risk evaluation. Cephalosporin use was associated with a lower likelihood of BAL requirement, whereas a higher Neut% and the presence of lobar pneumonia were associated with a higher likelihood of BAL requirement.

- Isolated pulmonary Cryptococcus neoformans infection presenting with severe pulmonary involvement: a case report. [Journal Article]J Med Case Rep. 2026 Jun 14. [Online ahead of print]JM
- CONCLUSIONS: Pulmonary cryptococcosis can masquerade as community-acquired pneumonia, delaying appropriate management. Clinicians should maintain a high index of suspicion in patients with prolonged corticosteroid use, poorly controlled diabetes mellitus, and poor response to antibiotics. Early recognition and timely antifungal therapy are vital to improving outcomes.

- Application of BALF combined with tNGS for detecting Chlamydia psittaci in resource-limited areas: lessons learned from the 2025 temporally associated case series investigation. [Journal Article]BMC Infect Dis. 2026 Jun 13. [Online ahead of print]BI
- CONCLUSIONS: Outsourcing BALF-tNGS to central labs facilitated rapid Cps diagnosis in a county hospital and may have helped reduce the risk of severe disease. This case series suggests that it may be useful to incorporate bird exposure history and accessible molecular diagnostics into CAP care in similar settings.

- Impact of pathogen co-detection on disease severity and clinical outcomes in children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Respiratory pathogen co-detection is prevalent in children with MPP and is independently associated with disease progression to SMPP (as defined by guideline criteria), prolonged hospitalization, and increased healthcare costs. The viral-bacterial co-detection pattern is associated with the greatest risk. These findings underscore the importance of comprehensive pathogen screening in the management of pediatric MPP.

- Delayed diagnosis of incomplete Kawasaki disease in a 3-month-old infant leading to giant coronary aneurysms. [Case Reports]Oxf Med Case Reports. 2026 Jun; 2026(6):omag086.OM
- Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute systemic vasculitis that and a leading cause of acquired heart disease in children. In infants younger than 6 months, incomplete forms are frequent and are associated with a higher risk of coronary complications due to delayed diagnosis. We report the case of a 3-month-old infant presenting with prolonged high-grade fever, initially treated as a severe bacterial …

- Community-acquired pseudomonas aeruginosa pneumonia in immunocompetent children: a study of 7 cases. [Journal Article]BMC Infect Dis. 2026 Jun 08. [Online ahead of print]BI
- CONCLUSIONS: Although rare, community-acquired PA pneumonia in immunocompetent children is associated with severe disease and pulmonary complications. Initial therapy with anti-pseudomonal β-lactam antibiotics appears effective in improving outcomes. Repeated cultures are recommended in the cases who remain symptomatic.

- Temperature Trajectories Are Associated With the Prognosis of Septic Patients. [Journal Article]Emerg Med Int. 2026; 2026:9111659.EM
- CONCLUSIONS: This study used longitudinal body temperature data to identify the subphenotypes of sepsis, with significant variability in in-hospital mortality and HA-BSI. A better understanding of the temperature trajectory may be helpful in identifying deteriorating septic patients in advance.

- Brucella abortus-induced neck abscess: a case report in an urban area of Miranda, Venezuela. [Journal Article]BMC Infect Dis. 2026 Jun 05. [Online ahead of print]BI
- Brucellosis is a zoonosis acquired direct contact with infected animals or by consumption of unpasteurized animal by-products. The most common complications involve the musculoskeletal system, such as sacroiliitis or vertebral osteomyelitis. However, skin and soft tissue involvement is uncommon, and cervical abscess are rarely reported. We report the case of a 19-year-old male patient, with no me…

- Human parvovirus B19-associated Guillain-Barré syndrome diagnosed by cerebrospinal fluid targeted next-generation sequencing: a case report and literature review. [Journal Article]BMC Infect Dis. 2026 Jun 04. [Online ahead of print]BI
- CONCLUSIONS: This case suggests that human parvovirus B19 (B19V) may be a rare cause of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), and confirms that cerebrospinal fluid targeted next-generation sequencing (CSF tNGS) has important diagnostic value in identifying atypical pathogens such as B19V. B19V-associated GBS tends to respond well to immunomodulatory therapy such as intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), with a generally favorable prognosis. tNGS may be considered for etiological detection in GBS cases with unknown causes.

- Spondylodiscitis caused by Citrobacter koseri: a case report. [Journal Article]J Med Case Rep. 2026 Jun 03. [Online ahead of print]JM
- CONCLUSIONS: This case underscores that Citrobacter koseri can cause spontaneous bacterial spondylodiscitis even in elderly patients from the community with no identifiable urinary or biliary infection. It highlights the importance of definitive microbiological diagnosis via biopsy or blood culture to guide targeted antibiotic therapy. Conservative management with prolonged fluoroquinolone-based regimens can lead to excellent outcomes in patients without neurological deficits.
