- Intravaginal Probiotics in Transition Dairy Cows: A Randomized Multi-Farm Field Trial on Health and Milk Production. [Journal Article]Vet Sci. 2026 Jun 18; 13(6).VS
- Uterine infections (metritis and endometritis) are a leading cause of culling and reproductive failure in transition dairy cows, and antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative pathogens limit conventional therapy. This randomized, controlled, multi-farm field trial evaluated whether four intravaginal infusions of a host-adapted lactic acid bacteria (LAB) cocktail (Lactobacillus sakei FUA3089, Pediococcus…

- Case Report-Uterine Necrosis: A Rare Complication of Uterine Artery Embolization in Postpartum Hemorrhage. [Case Reports]Reports (MDPI). 2026 May 24; 9(2).R
- Background and Clinical Significance: Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is a leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide. Among its various etiologies, uterine atony accounts for approximately 70% of cases, while other causes include genital tract trauma, pathologic placentation, and intrapelvic arterial injury. Uterine artery embolization (UAE) has emerged as a preferred management option for severe…

- Benefits of doula care for labor duration and maternal health during vaginal delivery. [Journal Article]BMC Pregnancy Childbirth. 2026 Jun 19. [Online ahead of print]BP
- CONCLUSIONS: Doula care during vaginal delivery could shorten labor durations, reduce the need for episiotomy and the incidence of severe perineal lacerations, and decrease the incidence of forceps delivery and postpartum bleeding. These findings supported the promotion of doula care to enhance natural deliveries and ensure maternal and child safety.

- Cerebral tuberculoma in pregnancy (Jan 1975-May 2025): a systematic review and descriptive analysis of 33 published cases. [Systematic Review]BMC Infect Dis. 2026 Jun 18. [Online ahead of print]BI
- CONCLUSIONS: Although cerebral tuberculoma during pregnancy is rare, delayed recognition contributes to substantial maternal morbidity and adverse neonatal outcomes. Our synthesis underscores the diagnostic value of advanced imaging and CSF interferon-γ assays, supports prolonged first-line therapy with adjunctive steroids, and highlights critical gaps in evidence-based guidelines. Multicentre prospective registries are urgently needed to refine diagnostic algorithms and optimise maternal-fetal care.

- A Comparative Analysis for Inhospital and Postdischarge Puerperal Sepsis (Readmissions) Among Mothers Admitted in Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. [Journal Article]Cureus. 2026 May; 18(5):e109040.C
- CONCLUSIONS: Despite the observed reduction in admissions due to puerperal sepsis, the predominance of postdischarge cases, particularly among mothers who underwent cesarean section and younger mothers, remains a significant challenge to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3. Targeted interventions focusing on the prevention of puerperal sepsis, with emphasis on postdischarge self-care, are therefore essential.

- Case report on resistant postpartum hemorrhage during cesarean section treated with a modified quadruple uterine belt suture technique for uterus preservation. [Journal Article]BMC Pregnancy Childbirth. 2026 Jun 13. [Online ahead of print]BP
- CONCLUSIONS: The quadruple modified uterine dorsal suture technique represents a variant of traditional compression suturing, enabling uniform compression of the entire uterine segment and rapid hemostasis. Combined with multimodal interventions, it effectively addresses refractory postpartum hemorrhage of complex etiology. Strict control of suture tension and postoperative dynamic monitoring can balance the benefits of uterine preservation with surgical risks.

- Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed): Acupuncture [BOOK]Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed). National Library of Medicine (US): Bethesda (MD).BOOK
- Acupuncture at traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) sites used to treat low milk supply has been claimed to cause release of prolactin and oxytocin, although published studies have found mixed results on serum prolactin. In one study, acupuncture did not affect prolactin hyperresponsiveness after stimulation with metoclopramide in women with amenorrhea-galactorrhea syndrome. Galactorrhea has been r…
- Transverse B-Lynch sutures for uterine preservation in patients with placenta accreta spectrum and placenta previa. [Journal Article]Ginekol Pol. 2026; 97(5):399-407.GP
- CONCLUSIONS: Transverse uterine compression sutures are highly effective in managing placenta previa and PAS. In severe cases like placenta increta, additional interventions may be necessary to control bleeding.

- Postpartum ovarian vein thrombosis: plain CT with clinical indicators-diagnostic performance and clinical application. [Journal Article]BMC Pregnancy Childbirth. 2026 Jun 08. [Online ahead of print]BP
- CONCLUSIONS: Plain CT can serve as a valuable initial screening tool for POVT. The integration of imaging and clinical parameters through machine learning models showed encouraging but preliminary discriminative ability (mean AUC 0.94 and 0.82, respectively), though with notable instability reflecting the modest sample size. These models may aid in early identification but require external validation.

- Establishing biochemical thresholds for serum metabolites to predict single or multiple production diseases in crossbred transition dairy cows under tropical climatic conditions. [Journal Article]Vet J. 2026 Jun 02; 318:106735. [Online ahead of print]VJ
- The current study aimed to establish biochemical threshold values for serum non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA), β-hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA), glucose, and calcium during prepartum period to predict the likelihood of postpartum production diseases (ketosis, milk fever, mastitis, and metritis) in Karan Fries (KF) cows under tropical climates of northern India. 31 KF cows were monitored from -6 weeks…

- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the need for high suspicion for pyomyoma in postpartum patients with fibroids who develop severe abdominal pain and sepsis. Prompt imaging and surgical intervention are critical to avoid morbidity and mortality from this rare complication.

- Efficacy of uterine artery ascending branch ligation for preventing postpartum hemorrhage in Caesarean section for placenta previa. [Journal Article]BMC Surg. 2026 May 27. [Online ahead of print]BS
- CONCLUSIONS: AUAL serves as an effective intervention to reduce 24‑hour postoperative blood loss in patients undergoing cesarean section for placenta previa. Although it was associated with more severe postoperative abdominal pain, it does not compromise key clinical recovery outcomes.

- Double-Balloon Catheter Alone or Combined with Oxytocin, Dinoprostone, or Misoprostol for Labor Induction in Late- and Post-Term Pregnancies: A Retrospective Cohort Study. [Journal Article]Int J Womens Health. 2026; 18:600653.IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Among DBC-based induction strategies, DBC plus misoprostol appeared most efficient but had a less favorable maternal safety profile. DBC plus oxytocin offered the most balanced effectiveness-safety profile, whereas DBC plus dinoprostone was associated with slower labor progression and less favorable operative outcomes. Protocol selection should be individualized according to maternal risk, urgency of delivery, and available intrapartum monitoring capacity.
