- Neurotoxic Snakebite Presenting with Early Neck Pain and Muscle Weakness: A Case Report of a Diagnostic Pitfall. [Case Reports]Clin Pract Cases Emerg Med. 2026 May; 10(2):128-131.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the diagnostic challenge posed by atypical presentations of neurotoxic snakebite, especially in the absence of a clear history. In endemic areas, flaccid paralysis should prompt clinical suspicion of snakebite. Early recognition and timely administration of antivenom are crucial to prevent fatal outcomes. This case also underscores the need for strengthening diagnostic tools and forensic confirmation to avoid missed or delayed diagnoses, which carry serious medicolegal and public health implications.

- PROMIS Computerized Adaptive Testing Demonstrates Strong Convergent Validity and Lower Patient Burden Compared With Legacy Instruments in Foot and Ankle Fracture Care. [Journal Article]Foot Ankle Orthop. 2026 Apr; 11(2):24730114261454983.FA
- CONCLUSIONS: Condition- and region-specific instruments may provide limited information beyond that obtained with PROMIS CATs. PROMIS (MOB, PI) CATs captured comparable constructs of functional recovery and pain interference, as demonstrated by high correlations with commonly used instruments, while substantially reducing patient burden. The relation between depressive symptoms and worse outcomes underscores the significance of psychological factors in recovery in patients with foot and ankle fractures.

- Distal Oblique Osteotomy vs Arthrodesis for Advanced Hallux Rigidus: A Matched Cohort Study. [Journal Article]Foot Ankle Int. 2026 Jun 29; :10711007261456291. [Online ahead of print]FA
- CONCLUSIONS: DOO may represent a motion-preserving surgical option for selected patients with advanced hallux rigidus. In this study, DOO was associated with comparable patient satisfaction and pain relief to arthrodesis, with preservation of joint motion and lower observed complication rates. These findings suggest that DOO may be considered as an alternative in appropriate patients, although further prospective studies are required.

- The Effect of Kinesiological Taping and Foot Massage Applied to Postpartum Women After Cesarean Delivery on Pain, Fatigue, and Mood: A Randomized Controlled Trial. [Journal Article]J Integr Complement Med. 2026 Jun 29; :27683605261463346. [Online ahead of print]JI
- CONCLUSIONS: CFM demonstrated a more pronounced short-term effect in reducing postcesarean pain compared to KT and the CG. Time-varying differences were observed between the CFM and KT groups in terms of energy levels and mood. However, larger-scale studies are needed to confirm the place and effectiveness of these methods in routine clinical use.

- Personalizing post-stroke symptom management: integrating network analysis and in silico intervention to identify subgroup-specific targets. [Journal Article]BMC Neurol. 2026 Jun 29. [Online ahead of print]BN
- CONCLUSIONS: In this cohort of 451 stroke survivors, symptom experience was not homogeneous. Patients could be grouped into low and high symptom burden profiles with different network structures. Simulation analyses showed that targeting high-centrality symptoms was associated with the largest predicted burden reductions, while worsening a non-central symptom (foot varus, S6) in the low-burden subgroup was predicted to increase burden by 26.2%. A sensitivity analysis confirmed that motor, cognitive, and emotional symptom domains play important roles, though the precise ranking of individual symptoms should be interpreted with caution. We introduce a benefit-risk framework as a hypothesis-generating tool for symptom management. Future longitudinal studies are needed to validate these predictions.

- Lisfranc injuries are complex midfoot injuries that, if inadequately managed, produce lasting pain, deformity and functional loss. Operative management has historically centred on open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) and primary arthrodesis (PA), and more recently on flexible fixation (FF) constructs such as suture button devices, the InternalBrace and nitinol staples. This narrative revie…

- Successful long-term palliative pain management using an intrathecal catheter adapted as a lumbar drain connected to an external infusion pump: A case report. [Case Reports]Interv Pain Med. 2026 Sep; 5(3):100800.IP
- CONCLUSIONS: This case demonstrates that adapting an intrathecal lumbar drain catheter for use with an external infusion pump is a feasible and effective strategy for providing long-term palliative pain control in selected patients with a good safety profile. This approach, combined with meticulous family-led catheter care, can significantly improve patients' quality of life and reduce the burden on acute healthcare services.

- Chronic Tophaceous Gout Masking Methicillin-Sensitive Staphylococcus aureus Bacteremia. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 May; 18(5):e109865.C
- A 91-year-old woman with chronic tophaceous gout presented with worsening left foot pain, swelling, and purulent drainage after several months of presumed gout flares treated with prednisone and antibiotics. At presentation, she was septic with leukocytosis, elevated inflammatory markers, and imaging consistent with first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) osteomyelitis. Blood cultures grew methicillin-se…

- Combined Neurosurgical and Gastrointestinal Surgical Approach Using Omental Flap for Adult Currarino Syndrome: A Case Report. [Case Reports]NMC Case Rep J. 2026; 13:295-299.NC
- Currarino syndrome is a rare congenital disorder characterized by a triad of sacral agenesis, presacral mass, and anorectal malformation. Although it is typically diagnosed in infancy or childhood, adult presentation is rare and poses unique diagnostic and surgical challenges. We present the case of a 45-year-old woman diagnosed with Currarino syndrome during pregnancy after incidental discovery …

- Effective management of early diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) is essential for reducing the risks of amputation and mortality. Affordable wound dressings are particularly important for low-income patients because wound healing often requires prolonged treatment. This case report describes the effects of a combined intervention on wound status and quality of life in a 54-year-old woman with a Grade 2 …

- Leucine-rich glioma-inactivated-1 (LGI1) IgG-associated autoimmune encephalitis typically presents with faciobrachial dystonic seizures, hyponatremia, and temporal lobe MRI abnormalities. However, the clinical spectrum of LGI1 IgG-associated AE extends beyond these classical features, with reports of diverse seizure semiologies and atypical presentations challenging traditional diagnostic paradig…

- Dive Injury and Jellyfish Sting Case Study. [Case Reports]Undersea Hyperb Med. 2026; 53(2):337-342.UH
- Wildlife exposure is a risk that trained divers are fully aware of. Examples of hazardous wildlife that divers may encounter include, but are not limited to, sharks, coral, sponges, eels, and jellyfish. Encountering wildlife can lead to a diver panicking or being forced to surface rapidly or in an uncontrolled manner due to panic or avoidance of the hazard. This may increase the risk of decompres…
- Mixed Compartment Syndromes and Neuropathy Resolution With Hyperbaric Oxygen. [Case Reports]Undersea Hyperb Med. 2026 Second Quarter; 53(2):227-234.UH
- Skeletal muscle compartment syndrome (SMCS) and exertional compartment syndrome (ECS) are two distinct conditions. This case report describes a situation in which both conditions resulted from the same triggering events. The importance of this case lies in the fact that the residual neuropathy associated with the SMCS resolved after a single hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) treatment.
