- A Massive Type IV Hiatal Hernia With Gastric Volvulus and the Complicated Road to Recovery. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e108043.C
- Type IV paraesophageal hiatal hernias are rare but carry a significant risk of life-threatening complications, including gastric volvulus, incarceration, and the involvement of other intra-abdominal organs. Pancreatic herniation and associated pancreatitis are exceedingly uncommon. We report the case of a 74-year-old woman with Barrett's esophagus, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), an…

- Changes in interstitial cells of Cajal calcium activity in a diabetic mouse model of delayed gastric emptying. [Journal Article]J Physiol. 2026 May 30. [Online ahead of print]JP
- Interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) regulate gastrointestinal motility by generating electrical slow waves that orchestrate downstream calcium (Ca[2] [+]) waves and coordinate smooth muscle contractions. A reduced ICC number has been reported in diabetic gastroparesis patients and in mouse models of delayed gastric emptying (DGE). However, functional changes in ICC propagating across the gastric re…

- New therapies to treat nausea and vomiting: the clinical need, progress towards novelty and research challenges. [Review]Expert Rev Clin Pharmacol. 2026 May 29. [Online ahead of print]ER
- Despite the availability of drugs which prevent vomiting, treatment gaps in controlling nausea and vomiting remain. New approaches are needed.

- The relationship between patient-reported hunger and gastric contents in adult patients with acute surgical abdominal pathology: exploratory prospective observational study. [Journal Article]BJA Open. 2026 Jun; 18:100561.BO
- CONCLUSIONS: In this exploratory study, no meaningful relationship between hunger and aspiration risk using gastric ultrasound could be identified. Our results require confirmation.

- Severe post-GDV gastroparesis managed with sleeve-type gastrectomy in a dog. [Case Reports]J Small Anim Pract. 2026 May 28. [Online ahead of print]JS
- A Belgian Malinois dog developed advanced gastroparesis with gastric atony and progressive dilatation following surgical correction of gastric dilatation-volvulus. Following gastric dilatation-volvulus, the dog developed recurrent gastric distension, vomiting of undigested food and progressive weight loss. Imaging and endoscopy demonstrated a markedly enlarged, static stomach with a patent pyloru…

- Glycemic Control and Diabetes Outcomes After Surgical Therapy for Diabetic Gastroparesis. [Journal Article]JAMA Surg. 2026 May 27. [Online ahead of print]JS
- CONCLUSIONS: In this national multicenter cohort, surgical therapy was associated with improved glycemic control, lower insulin utilization, and fewer diabetes-related complications. Metabolic outcomes may warrant consideration alongside symptom relief when evaluating patients for surgical therapy for gastroparesis.

- Alternative Therapeutic Approaches in the Management of Gastroparesis: A Systematic Review. [Review]Diseases. 2026 May 20; 14(5).D
- CONCLUSIONS: We found that alternative therapies are effective for the management of gastroparesis. However, the review was limited by heterogeneous study designs, incomplete methodological reporting, and publication bias. Future investigations must focus on long-term randomised control trials encompassing large sample sizes.

- Validation of a Short-Form Fear of Food Questionnaire in Patients With Functional Dyspepsia and Gastroparesis. [Journal Article]Neurogastroenterol Motil. 2026 May; 38(5):e70355.NM
- CONCLUSIONS: The FFQ-9 appears to be a valid, clinically useful measure of fear of food in patients with FD/Gp. In our sample, higher FFQ-9 scores correlated with higher symptom severity as assessed with the PAGI-SYM and with lower quality of life as assessed with the PAGI-QOL. Future research should test whether FFQ-9 scores are sensitive to change in FD/Gp treatment and evaluate the FFQ-9 in other populations.

- Examining a link between gastroparesis and anxiety and depression: a brief contemporary review. [Journal Article]Explore (NY). 2026 May 12; 22(4):103435. [Online ahead of print]E
- Gastroparesis is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder characterized by delayed gastric emptying, often presenting with symptoms including nausea, vomiting, early satiety, and abdominal pain. Moreover, studies demonstrate higher rates of psychological distress among individuals with gastroparesis, compared with the general population; increasing evidence suggests that anxiety and depression contrib…

- [Late complications after atrial fibrillation ablation : Diagnosis and management]. [Review]
- Delayed complications may occur up to weeks after atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation and are usually a consequence of initial injury during ablation and ongoing processes progressing to severe symptomatic but late-onset events. A structured clinical follow-up of patients to appraise for late complications is therefore imperative for all centers performing AF ablations. Late complications should al…

- Long-term outcomes in patients with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome with an average follow-up of over 20 years. [Journal Article]J Intern Med. 2026 May 19. [Online ahead of print]JI
- CONCLUSIONS: In a cohort of adult patients with POTS who received care at a national referral center for autonomic disorders, almost half reported their POTS symptoms as improved 10 or more years after symptom onset. Most patients with POTS experienced ongoing symptoms for many years after diagnosis.

- Association of GLP-1 Receptor Agonist Use With Safety Outcomes in Individuals With Opioid Use Disorder: A Target Trial Emulation. [Journal Article]Diabetes Obes Metab. 2026 May 18. [Online ahead of print]DO
- CONCLUSIONS: In a large cohort of commercially insured individuals with OUD, GLP-1 RA initiation was not associated with increased adverse gastrointestinal, renal, respiratory or psychiatric outcomes and was associated with lower risks of pancreatitis, insomnia and anxiety. While the possibility of residual confounding cannot be excluded, these data support the safety of GLP-1 RAs when used for approved indications in patients with OUD and inform ongoing repurposing efforts.

- The interplay of maturity-onset diabetes of the young, obesity, uncontrolled hypertension, and cannabinoid hyperemesis in the progression to end-stage renal disease: a case report. [Case Reports]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1755934.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: This first reported case of presumed MODY, obesity, hypertension, cannabis use, and poor adherence in a young adult demonstrates unusually rapid progression to end-stage renal disease (ESRD), highlighting the need for early recognition and integrated management in high-risk patients.
