- Type 2 Cardiorenal Syndrome: Prevalence and Correlates in Nigerian Heart Failure Patients. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The frequency of Type 2 CRS among CHF patients in JUTH was high. The predictors of chronic CRS include diabetes mellitus, NYHA grade, raised JVP, loud P2, systolic dysfunction, anaemia, albuminuria, rural/suburban dwelling and increased CTR. These findings highlight the urgent need to incorporate screening for CKD among stable heart failure patients at regular intervals, and early referral to the nephrologist to prevent further deterioration to ESRD.

- Physical Examination for the Detection of Pulmonary Hypertension: A Systematic Review. [Review]
- We performed a systematic review to determine whether the physical examination can reliably assist in the diagnostic approach for patients suspected of having pulmonary hypertension (PH). Using dual extraction, two investigators independently searched PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and Embase for studies that compared physical examination findings with a right heart catheterization, from…

- Successful balloon dilatation of both orifices in a case of double-orifice mitral valve with severe rheumatic stenosis. [Case Reports]Catheter Cardiovasc Interv. 2016 Aug; 88(2):296-300.CC
- A 24-year-old female patient presented to us with progressive dyspnea on exertion for last three year. She was not a known case of rheumatic heart disease. Her physical examination showed regular pulse and her blood pressure was 100/76 mm Hg. Cardiac palpation showed grade 3 parasternal heave and auscultation revelled an accentuated first heart sound, loud P2 and mid-diastolic long rumbling murmu…

- Utility of the physical examination in detecting pulmonary hypertension. A mixed methods study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The presence of a loud P2 or audible right-sided 4th heart sound are associated with PH. However the physical examination is unreliable for determining the presence of PH.

- A case of dilated cardiomyopathy. [Case Reports]Rural Remote Health. 2012; 12:2143.RR
- CONCLUSIONS: Dilated cardiomyopathy, although rare worldwide, is a significant problem throughout Africa. It has been shown to account for up to 48% of admissions with heart failure. Its aetiology is multifactorial and includes exposure to toxins and infectious agents. Presenting symptoms can be vague but improved prognosis and outcomes require prompt diagnosis and appropriate management.

- Cardiovascular and electrocardiographic changes in Nigerians with a normal pregnancy. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Significant findings on examination were low diastolic blood pressure and a systolic ejection murmur. However, ECG changes showed a normal frontal-plane QRS axis, normal PR interval, significantly rare normal Negroidpattern ST elevation, significant LVH based on Araoye RI > 12 mm and a rarity of all forms of arrhythmias. These data may help resolve some cardiac diagnostic difficulties during pregnancy.

- Mitral stenosis in a girl of five years. [Case Reports]Mymensingh Med J. 2006 Jul; 15(2):208-11.MM
- Mitral stenosis(MS) detected below the age of 20 years is called juvenile mitral stenosis (JMS). JMS constitute 25-40 % of all cases of isolated mitral stenosis, though overall incidence of rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease (RHD) within mixed population is 7.5- 7.8 per thousand. The patient was 5 years old girl hailing from Modhupur, Tangail got herself admitted into CCU Mymensingh Medi…
- Effects of quetiapine and haloperidol on prepulse inhibition of the acoustic startle (eyeblink) response and the N1/P2 auditory evoked response in man. [Journal Article]
- Contraction of the orbicularis oculi muscle in response to a sudden loud sound (acoustic startle response) and the N1/P2 component of the auditory evoked potential are both attenuated when a brief low-intensity stimulus is presented 30-500 ms before the 'startle-eliciting' stimulus (PPI). Here, we report the effects of the 'atypical' antipsychotic drug quetiapine and the 'conventional' antipsycho…
