- Exofection by exosomes: A transient functional cargo transfer. [Journal Article]Extracell Vesicle. 2025 Jun; 5.EV
- Exosomes have emerged as key mediators of inter-cellular communication, transporting a diverse array of cargos that can reflect the current biological state of the cell. Recent advancements in exosome biology have unveiled their crucial role in cell signaling and paracrine-mediated functions. In this article, we will highlight the concept of exofection. In this well-defined donor-recipient relati…

- Association of Toll-like receptor gene polymorphisms with susceptibility to hepatitis B virus-related acute-on-chronic liver failure: a case-control study. [Journal Article]Sci Rep. 2026 Jun 24. [Online ahead of print]SR
- Hepatitis B virus-associated acute-on-chronic liver failure (HBV-ACLF) represents a significant worldwide public health challenge. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) serve as essential components of the innate immune system; however, their involvement as genetic predisposition factors for HBV-ACLF remains incompletely understood. The present investigation aimed to explore the relationship between genetic…

- Objective: To investigate the feasibility and efficacy of ex vivo liver resection and autologous liver transplantation (ERAT) in the treatment of initially unresectable colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRLM). Methods: Four databases, including PubMed, Embase, Scopus and Web of Science, were systematically searched for literature on ERAT for CRLM published from database inception to May 13, 202…

- Impact of impaired branched-chain amino acid metabolism on kidney disease. [Journal Article]Clin Sci (Lond). 2026 Jul 15; 140(7):1455-1471.CS
- Acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are the two primary forms of kidney disease that significantly contribute to increased mortality and progression to end-stage renal disease. To effectively treat AKI and CKD, elucidating the detailed mechanisms underlying their onset and progression is essential for the development of novel therapeutic strategies. Impaired cellular functi…

- Unusual cause of small bowel obstruction in a liver transplant recipient: a case report and focused literature review. [Case Reports]Front Surg. 2026; 13:1824834.FS
- CONCLUSIONS: Bezoars are a rare but clinically relevant cause of SBO in transplant recipients. Early surgical exploration is warranted when conservative management fails or imaging is ambiguous. Intraoperative ICG fluorescence is a useful adjunct to assess bowel viability and may avoid unnecessary resection. Individualized dietary counseling adapted to regional habits should be considered in long-term transplant follow-up. Larger contemporary series are needed to refine the etiologic spectrum and preventive strategies in this population.

- Acute Hypoxic Respiratory Failure in Advanced Hepatocellular Carcinoma Secondary to Diffuse Pulmonary Metastases and Malignancy-Associated Hypercoagulability: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 May; 18(5):e109483.C
- We report a 48-year-old male with newly diagnosed moderately differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) presenting with diffuse pulmonary metastases with suspected lymphangitic involvement and extensive malignancy-associated thrombosis, including bilateral pulmonary emboli, portal vein thrombosis, and inferior vena cava thrombus. His hospital course was notable for rapid clinical deterioration…

- Macrophage-enriched GPR91 aggravates acute liver injury by inhibiting efferocytosis via the AC/cAMP/PPARγ pathway. [Journal Article]Metabolism. 2026 Jun 23; :156684. [Online ahead of print]M
- CONCLUSIONS: Our work has revealed that macrophage-enriched GPR91 plays a vital role in controlling the inflammation and efferocytosis of macrophage, providing a potential therapeutic target for acute liver injury and liver failure.

- Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a frequent and life-threatening neurological complication of acute liver failure (ALF) encountered in the intensive care unit and remains a major determinant of short-term mortality and long-term neurological outcomes. Increasing evidence indicates that HE in ALF is primarily driven by hyperammonemia, with synergistic contributions from systemic inflammation, cerebr…

- A prospective study of 12-month survival of patients with cirrhosis admitted to intensive care. [Journal Article]Intern Med J. 2026 Jun 22. [Online ahead of print]IM
- CONCLUSIONS: Patients with cirrhosis may have excellent long-term outcomes following ICU admissions. Distinguishing whether a patient is in ACLF or non-ACLF may aid with determining the appropriate prognostic score to apply to aid decision making on limitations of patient care.

- Clostridial necrotizing infection with multiorgan failure in an unhoused patient following a presumed spider bite. [Case Reports]Oxf Med Case Reports. 2026 Jun; 2026(6):omag112.OM
- Spider bites are commonly encountered in medicine and, when recognized early, can often be effectively managed with supportive care or antivenom. However, in rare cases, particularly in individuals with poor living conditions, chronic comorbidities, or immunocompromised states, arachnid envenomation can act as a portal for rare but life-threatening complications. We introduce the case of a 59-yea…

- Acute liver failure (ALF) is characterised by massive hepatocyte death and compromised regenerative capacity, yet the metabolic-immune crosstalk underlying these pathological processes remains poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that lactate acts as a pivotal signal that triggers neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) formation and release. Integrated RNA-seq and scRNA-seq analyses revealed pr…

- CONCLUSIONS: In this nationally representative cohort, nongonococcal native septic knee arthritis showed substantial in-hospital mortality, morbidity, and healthcare utilization. Mortality was driven primarily by multiorgan dysfunction rather than demographic or socioeconomic factors. Early identification and aggressive management of high-risk patients may improve outcomes.
