- Clinical characteristics and outcomes of invasive fungal infections in critically ill patients with liver cirrhosis. [Journal Article]BMC Infect Dis. 2026 Jun 04. [Online ahead of print]BI
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings highlight the need for IFI surveillance in critically ill cirrhosis patients, particularly in those with ACLF and bacterial infections at admission.

- Postcardiotomy Acute Liver Injury: A Retrospective Cohort. [Journal Article]J Cardiothorac Vasc Anesth. 2026 May 15. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: The incidence and prognostic value of postoperative liver injury strongly depend on the diagnostic definition adopted. HH and SIELI identify a small subset of patients with markedly increased morbidity, whereas ALF, as currently defined, appears to lack prognostic relevance in this surgical setting. Prospective studies are needed to clarify risk factors and pathophysiologic mechanisms underlying perioperative liver injury after cardiac surgery.

- Liver-brain axis imbalance: Mechanisms linking hepatic disorders to neuropsychiatric abnormalities. [Review]Cell Signal. 2026 Jun 03; :112626. [Online ahead of print]CS
- Liver dysfunction and various hepatic disorders cause neuropsychiatric abnormalities including depression, anxiety, cognitive impairment and personality changes through liver-brain axis imbalance, greatly worsening patient prognosis. The liver-brain axis acts as a bidirectional network via neural, humoral, immune and gut microbiota pathways, and its disruption dominates liver disease-related cent…

- Astragaloside IV Ameliorates Acetaminophen-Induced Liver Injury via Targeting the PCK1/PPARG/RXRA-Mediated PPAR Signaling Pathway. [Journal Article]J Biochem Mol Toxicol. 2026 Jun; 40(6):e70942.JB
- Acetaminophen (APAP) overdose can induce hepatic injury and even acute liver failure. Astragaloside IV (AS-IV), a saponin isolated from Astragalus membranaceus, demonstrates protective effects on both digestive and immune systems owing to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This study aims to investigate the protective effects and underlying mechanisms of AS-IV against APAP-induced …

- Extranodal natural killer-cell lymphoma presenting to the emergency room with abdominal pain: a case report. [Journal Article]J Med Case Rep. 2026 Jun 03. [Online ahead of print]JM
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the diagnostic challenge of primary gastrointestinal ENKL in patients presenting with abdominal pain and hematochezia in the absence of computed tomography (CT) abnormalities. Persistent unexplained abdominal pain should prompt consideration of rare ulcerative small bowel diseases, including ENKL, particularly when perforation is a potential complication. Early multidisciplinary intervention is essential to improve the outcomes of this devastating condition.

- Hyperlactatemia in sepsis and shock: a renal metabolic perspective. [Review]Crit Care. 2026 Jun 03. [Online ahead of print]CC
- Hyperlactatemia is a frequent finding in critically ill patients and is traditionally interpreted as a marker of tissue hypoxia and anaerobic metabolism. However, in sepsis, septic shock, and other states of circulatory failure - including post-cardiac arrest syndrome - elevated lactate concentrations often occur despite preserved arterial oxygenation and adequate oxygen delivery. Increasing evid…

- Viral Hepatitis. [Review]Vet Clin North Am Equine Pract. 2026 Jun 03. [Online ahead of print]VC
- Since 2012, 2 viral causes of hepatitis have been identified in horses. Much remains to be discovered about their transmission, risk factors for clinical disease, diagnosis, and treatment approaches. Equine parvovirus-hepatitis has been identified as the cause of acute hepatic necrosis, previously known as Theiler's disease. Equine hepacivirus is recognized as a cause of chronic fibrosing hepatit…

- Mean Arterial Pressure at Admission Predicts 28-day Mortality in Patients with Severe Alcohol-associated Hepatitis. [Journal Article]Clin Transl Gastroenterol. 2026 Jun 03. [Online ahead of print]CT
- A baseline MAP <80 mmHg is an independent predictor of short- and mid-term mortality in patients with AH. Strategies aimed at restoring hemodynamic stability may improve outcomes in this high-risk population.

- Sudden Acute Liver Failure in Citrullinemia type 1: An Argument for Earlier Liver Transplantation? [Journal Article]J Pediatr. 2026 Jun 02; :115181. [Online ahead of print]JPed
- Acute liver failure (ALF) has been described at initial presentation of citrullinemia type 1 (CTLN1), but recurrent hepatic decompensations during medical treatment have not been reported. We describe 5 children developing ALF episodes, including one who required emergency liver transplantation. Our findings expand the CTLN1 phenotype and support early liver transplant referral in selected cases.

- Toxicokinetics under extracorporeal clearance and temporal dissociation of hepatotoxicity and coagulopathy in ACDMB poisoning: Two index cases. [Case Reports]Toxicol Rep. 2026 Jun; 16:102277.TR
- CONCLUSIONS: These observations provide the first human ACDMB toxicokinetic profile under extracorporeal clearance and generate the hypothesis that CRI < 5 may identify high-risk periods for hemoperfusion, though prospective validation is required.

- Natural products in treating sepsis-associated lung and liver injuries by mediating ferroptosis, current progress, and future perspective. [Review]Front Pharmacol. 2026; 17:1785916.FP
- Sepsis is a life-threatening disorder triggered by an unregulated host reaction to infection, and it represents a worldwide health dilemma given the scarcity of effective treatment strategies. Sepsis usually leads to lethal multiorgan dysfunctions, including acute liver failure (ALF) and acute lung injury (ALI). Recent studies have found that altered programmed cell death (PCD) processes, includi…

- EUS-guided drainage of symptomatic postoperative fluid collections: a retrospective cohort study evaluating timing of intervention and clinical outcomes. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this large single-center experience of symptomatic POFCS, acute and early EUS-guided drainage with lumen-apposing metal stents in carefully selected patients was found to be technically safe and clinically effective, potentially avoiding more morbid interventions such as ERCP, percutaneous drainage, or surgery. Further randomized, prospective studies are needed to define predictors of technical and clinical success as well as adverse events.
