  • [Vestibulocochlear infarct: a challenging diagnosis]. [Review]
    Orv Hetil. 2026 Aug 16; 167(33):1309-1317.Szilágyi A, Gáborján A, … Polony GOH
  • Vestibulocochlear infarct, most commonly associated with infarction of a terminal branch of the anterior inferior cerebellar artery, presents with acute vertigo and sensorineural hearing loss. It often mimics peripheral vestibular disorders and may show no abnormal findings on neuroimaging, making the diagnosis particularly challenging. Without appropriate treatment, permanent unilateral hearing …
  • Prevalence and Causes of Visual Impairment and Blindness in the Qassim Region, Saudi Arabia: A Retrospective Study. [Journal Article]
Cureus. 2026 Jul; 18(7):e112786.Alluhayb AH, Alamri SK, … Alswaina NC
  • CONCLUSIONS: VI cases are prevalent among patients attending eye clinics at QUMC, presenting symptoms like decreased vision and blurred vision. The leading causes were refractive error and cataract, with most patients presenting moderate and mild VI. The most common comorbidities were diabetes mellitus and hypertension. There is a need for patients to take prompt action and preventive measures, including regular eye examinations, to minimize the incidence of VI and the risk of blindness.
  • MVRepairAI: A machine learning-based system to predict surgical methods in mitral valve repair. [Journal Article]
JTCVS Open. 2026 Aug; 32:101805.AlGhamdi M, Bata KB, … Saiydoun GJO
  • CONCLUSIONS: MVRepairAI demonstrates the potential of artificial intelligence to convert preoperative imaging into surgically pertinent plans for mitral valve repair. The hierarchical model structure showed substantial concordance with operative approaches across diverse pathologic presentations. Future refinements require rigorous multicenter validation, integration of dynamic intraoperative data, and longitudinal outcomes analysis to further advance this foundational platform for standardized, patient-specific mitral valve restoration.
  • Splenic Steatopathy: A Clinical and Experimental Framework for Lipid-Associated Splenic Pathology. [Review]
Clin Exp Gastroenterol. 2026; 19:628370.Shelat VGCE
  • The spleen is usually viewed as a hematologic, vascular and immune organ, but rarely within lipid-associated disease. This review proposes splenic steatopathy as a provisional clinical and experimental framework rather than an established diagnosis or a splenic equivalent of fatty liver disease. Evidence is organized into pre-splenic drivers, intra-splenic pathology and post-splenic consequences.…
  • Predictors of long-term survival after pulmonary endarterectomy. [Journal Article]
JTCVS Open. 2026 Aug; 32:101921.Awad AK, Shah S, … Elgharably HJO
  • CONCLUSIONS: The degree of preoperative RV dysfunction did not influence long-term survival after PTE. However, postoperative mPAP was associated with worse survival, suggesting the need for close follow-up of these patients to monitor compliance, pulmonary vascular or RV remodeling, and progression of CTEPH.
  • The role of sex in multiarterial coronary artery bypass grafting: A landmark and risk factor analysis. [Journal Article]
    JTCVS Open. 2026 Aug; 32:101847.Kletzer J, Fagu A, … Berger TJO
  • CONCLUSIONS: Early outcome disparities after BITA-CABG are driven by anatomical and clinical factors in women, including smaller conduit and vessel size and greater perioperative risk, particularly in the immediate postoperative period. Long-term outcomes are similar between sexes once this phase is overcome. Distinct risk profiles underscore the need for individualized, sex-specific management in contemporary CABG care.
