- Inter-rater reliability and clinical utility of the modified ferriman-gallwey scale in routine practice. [Journal Article]Gynecol Endocrinol. 2026 Dec 31; 42(1):2692736.GE
- CONCLUSIONS: Although clinician scoring demonstrated good statistical reliability, inter-rater differences remained clinically meaningful, with LOA exceeding diagnostic thresholds for hirsutism. Greater experience improved agreement but did not eliminate variability. Patient self-scoring showed low agreement with experts and tended to overestimate severity; however, it may function as a high-sensitivity screening adjunct rather than a substitute for clinician assessment.

- Adrenal Insufficiency Due to Inhaled Etomidate in Electronic Cigarettes. [Case Reports]AACE Endocrinol Diabetes. 2026; 13(3):521-526.AE
- CONCLUSIONS: Inhaled etomidate misuse is increasingly common and should be suspected in patients with unexplained adrenal insufficiency. Adrenocortical suppression by inhaled etomidate mimics rare forms of congenital adrenal hyperplasia and hypokalaemic periodic paralysis.

- Efficacy of Intense Pulsed Light <em>vs.</em> Triple Wavelength Diode Laser in Hair Reduction. [Randomized Controlled Trial]J Coll Physicians Surg Pak. 2026 May; 36(5):631-635.JC
- CONCLUSIONS: Both modalities reduced hair growth. The TWDL showed superior early efficacy and a more favourable safety profile; however, the difference after four months was not statistically significant.

- Severe Hyperandrogenism Revealing a 46,XY Disorder of Sex Development Due to a Novel NR5A1 Mutation. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e106963.C
- 46,XY disorders of sex development (DSDs) are rare congenital conditions resulting from impaired gonadal differentiation and/or steroidogenesis. The NR5A1 gene encodes steroidogenic factor 1 (SF-1), a key regulator of gonadal development and endocrine function, and pathogenic variants are associated with a broad phenotypic spectrum that may present beyond the neonatal period. We report the case o…

- Dual case insights shaping a new protocol for post-menopausal hirsutism. [Case Reports]JCEM Case Rep. 2026 Jun; 4(6):luag087.JC
- Hyperandrogenism in women typically presents with hirsutism and other virilizing features. When it presents with accelerated clinical features and/or high androgen levels (total testosterone > 5 nmol/L) (>145 ng/dL) (reference range, <2.4 nmol/L [SI: <70 ng/dL]), particularly in the post-menopausal state, an underlying ovarian or adrenal neoplasm should be considered. With ovarian pathology, andr…

- Building and validating a stigma prediction model for overweight and obese patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS): A observational study. [Journal Article]Medicine (Baltimore). 2026 May 01; 105(18):e48655.M
- This observational study was designed to establish and validate a stigma prediction model for patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The stigma risk scoring table for overweight and obese patients with PCOS has good predictive ability. When an overweight or obese patient with PCOS presents, the prediction model allows clinic staff to rapidly grade hirsutism, acne, and acanthosis, determi…

- Development and validation of an LC-MS/MS assay for serum 5α-androstane-3α, 17β-diol 17-glucuronide with enhanced interference resolution. [Journal Article]J Chromatogr B Analyt Technol Biomed Life Sci. 2026 Jun 01; 1277:125049.JC
- 5α-androstane-3α,17β-diol 17-glucuronide (3α-diol G) is a testosterone metabolite and an important biomarker of hormonal dysregulation, including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and virilizing syndromes in women such as idiopathic hirsutism. While immunoassay kits are commonly used for its quantification in clinical laboratories, these methods are prone to interference due to the structural simi…

- Bilateral ovarian steroid cell tumor in a postmenopausal woman with progressive hyperandrogenism. [Case Reports]JCEM Case Rep. 2026 Apr; 4(4):luag020.JC
- Severe hyperandrogenism with new-onset virilization in postmenopausal women is rare and often associated with androgen-secreting tumors. Nevertheless, a comprehensive differential diagnosis must be considered, including ovarian hyperthecosis and Cushing syndrome. We report a 71-year-old woman with progressive hirsutism over 1-2 years, presenting with severe hyperandrogenism and insulin resistance…

- A Decade-Long Diagnostic Challenge: A Case of Nonclassical 21-Hydroxylase Deficiency Mistaken for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. [Case Reports]J Obstet Gynaecol Res. 2026 Feb; 52(2):e70191.JO
- We report a rare case of nonclassical 21-hydroxylase deficiency (NC21-OHD) diagnosed in adulthood after being misdiagnosed as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) for 9 years. A 27-year-old Japanese woman presented with longstanding amenorrhea, hirsutism, and polycystic ovarian morphology on ultrasonography but did not exhibit withdrawal bleeding after standard estrogen/progestin (E/P) therapy. Hormo…

- Statistics from 2024 have shown that 50% of young women use contraception. Nowadays, it is not only used to prevent pregnancy. Positive effects of this treatment can be seen in cases of acne vulgaris, hirsutism, and painful menstruation. A controversial topic is the use of combined oral contraception (COC) in women with migraine with aura - it is contraindicated, but for headaches associated with…

- Skin deep: dermatologic challenges in PCOS through the female lifespan. [Review]Expert Rev Endocrinol Metab. 2026 Mar; 21(2):123-142.ER
- Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a lifelong endocrine-metabolic condition with prominent dermatologic manifestations such as hirsutism, acne/seborrhea, and female pattern hair loss (FPHL), which are frequently the initial complaint for seeking medical attention.

- The lived experiences of women with polycystic ovary syndrome and its psychological challenges: A systematic review and meta-synthesis. [Systematic Review]
- PURPOSE: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) presents psychological challenges in women due to persistent symptoms such as hirsutism, irregular menstruation, and weight gain, and long-term complications like infertility. Women with PCOS face higher risks of depression, anxiety, body image dissatisfaction, and social challenges. Research often overlooks the psychological burden of PCOS, despite its d…

- Facial hair in women generally is considered to be unwanted. The presence of facial hair in women and its associated conditions, treatmens options, and management strategies are not commonly discussed in most medical care settings. The United States military, which includes more than 220,000 active-duty female service members, has strict and specific grooming standards, which for many years have …

- Computed Tomography Angiography-Assisted Ovarian Vein Sampling for Diagnosing an Androgen-Producing Leydig Cell Tumor: A Case Report. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case underscores the utility of CT angiography-assisted OVS in localizing androgen-producing ovarian tumors when conventional imaging is inconclusive. Functional confirmation of laterality enabled fertility-sparing surgery (FSS) in a reproductive-aged patient and led to optimal clinical outcomes. Adapting adrenal vein sampling (AVS) methodology to OVS represents a valuable diagnostic approach in selected cases of severe hyperandrogenism.
