- Ultra-Minimally Invasive Medical Thoracoscopic Sympathectomy for Primary Palmar Hyperhidrosis. [Journal Article]Ann Thorac Surg Short Rep. 2026 Jun; 4(2):733-736.AT
- Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy is an effective treatment of primary palmar hyperhidrosis. Currently, single-port thoracoscopy is the primary surgical approach. Ensuring efficacy and safety, reducing surgical obstacles, minimizing tissue damage, and enhancing cosmesis and aesthetics of the surgical incision are focal in clinical research on endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy. Herein, we report a…

- Near-infrared fluorescence imaging for intraoperative identification of thoracic sympathetic ganglia during VATS ganglionectomy: a randomized controlled trial. [Journal Article]Surg Endosc. 2026 Jun 09. [Online ahead of print]SE
- CONCLUSIONS: Within a T2/5 ganglionectomy protocol, NIR-ICG fluorescence imaging improved the anatomical identification of the T2 sympathetic ganglion. As the trial was powered for this anatomical endpoint, not clinical superiority, the similar short-term clinical outcomes should be interpreted as reflecting limited statistical resolution rather than as evidence of clinical equivalence. Whether enhanced anatomical precision translates into clinically meaningful benefit requires adequately powered, longer-term studies.

- Suicidal ideation in patients with skin conditions: A multicentre European study. [Journal Article]J Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol. 2026 Jun 05. [Online ahead of print]JE
- CONCLUSIONS: Suicidal ideation is elevated in European dermatology patients and is strongly associated with psychological distress, socio-economic vulnerability and negative body perception. Routine screening for mental health symptoms and suicidal ideation should become a standard component of dermatological care to ensure early identification and support of at-risk individuals.

- Risk factors for compensatory hyperhidrosis following CT-guided percutaneous radiofrequency sympathectomy: A retrospective observational study. [Journal Article]Medicine (Baltimore). 2026 May 22; 105(21):e48976.M
- Compensatory hyperhidrosis (CH) is a significant complication following surgery for primary hyperhidrosis, impairing patients' postoperative experience and quality of life. Radiofrequency sympathectomy (RFS) is one of the main minimally invasive surgeries for hyperhidrosis, yet high-risk factors and patient experiences of postoperative CH are rarely reported. This retrospective observational stud…

- Analysis of all video-assisted thoracic sympathectomy for hyperhidrosis over 9 years in Brazil: trends, costs and in-hospital mortality over 200 million inhabitants. [Journal Article]Ann Vasc Surg. 2026 May 19. [Online ahead of print]AV
- CONCLUSIONS: In this nationwide cohort of nearly 27,000 procedures, VATS sympathectomy for primary hyperhidrosis demonstrated an low mortality rate across both public and private healthcare systems, supporting its role as a safe definitive surgical therapy when appropriately indicated. The marked disparities in access and cost highlight important system-level differences but do not appear to compromise procedural safety.

- Transient Pourfour du Petit Syndrome as the Presenting Sign of Internal Carotid Artery Aneurysm. [Case Reports]Neuroophthalmology. 2026; 50(3):264-267.N
- Pourfour du Petit syndrome (PdPS) is a rare oculosympathetic hyperactivity syndrome characterized by ipsilateral mydriasis, eyelid retraction, and hyperhidrosis. We report a case of a 36-year-old female who presented to the emergency department with a chief complaint of a dilated pupil with photosensitivity and blurred vision in the left eye (OS). On examination, the best corrected visual acuity …

- [Case report: Spontaneous periodic hypotermia in a geriatric patient]. [Case Reports]Geriatr Psychol Neuropsychiatr Vieil. 2026 Mar 01; 24(1):134-137.GP
- Shapiro syndrome is a rare condition with fewer than 100 cases reported, initially characterized by the triad of hypothermia, hyperhidrosis, and agenesis of the corpus callosum. The diagnostic triad is no longer systematic, and the condition is now more broadly referred to as spontaneous periodic hypothermia. An 86-year-old patient presented with coma, hypothermia, and sweating. The differential …

- Living Through Sweat: A Qualitative Study of the Pre-Surgical Decision-Making Trajectory in Patients with Palmar Hyperhidrosis. [Journal Article]Patient Prefer Adherence. 2026; 20:589191.PP
- CONCLUSIONS: The pathway toward surgical consideration in patients with palmar hyperhidrosis was a dynamic and ambivalent process shaped by symptom normalization, psychosocial burden, prior treatment experiences, and concerns about surgical risks. These findings highlight the importance of addressing psychological and social experiences alongside technical counseling and support the value of shared decision-making in pre-surgical care.

- Propranolol monotherapy versus combined propranolol-gabapentin for prevention of paroxysmal sympathetic hyperactivity after moderate-severe traumatic brain injury: a randomized controlled trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: Prophylactic propranolol significantly reduces PSH incidence, shortens MV duration, and decreases ICU stay in moderate-to-severe TBI. Although adding gabapentin further reduces PSH, it prolongs recovery time, suggesting a trade-off between efficacy and sedative effects. These findings suggest that propranolol monotherapy is a promising prophylactic strategy, with gabapentin potentially reserved for refractory cases. However, given the study's limitations, these results should be considered hypothesis-generating and warrant confirmation in larger, multicenter trials. Mortality and neurological outcomes were comparable across groups.

- Skin manifestations of hyperandrogenism: an update. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Hyperandrogenism and the expression of AR in the skin precipitate the development of androgen-associated dermatologic conditions. Androgen-targeted treatment appears to be more effective when compared with other non-androgen-targeted therapeutic options. Further research is required to analyze the existing treatments and develop new approaches.

- Dual-Lead Spinal Cord Stimulation for Refractory Diabetic Small Fiber Neuropathy With Erythromelalgia-Like Features: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Pain Med Case Rep. 2026 Apr; 10(2):161-164.PM
- CONCLUSIONS: This case illustrates the potential role of dual-lead spinal cord stimulation for treating refractory diabetic small fiber neuropathy with erythromelalgia-like features involving both the upper and lower extremities. Our patient reported significant improvements in pain and autonomic symptoms. These findings support considering targeted neuromodulation for patients who have medication-resistant small fiber neuropathy in multiple extremities.
