- Associations of concurrent insomnia symptoms and excessive daytime sleepiness with mortality and incident cardiovascular disease. [Journal Article]Sleep Health. 2026 Jun 18. [Online ahead of print]SH
- CONCLUSIONS: The co-occurrence of insomnia symptoms and excessive daytime sleepiness was associated with higher risks of all-cause, cardiovascular disease mortality and incident cardiovascular disease than either symptom alone. These findings support considering combined sleep-symptom profiles in risk assessment, while further studies are needed to clarify underlying mechanisms and determine clinical implications.

- CONCLUSIONS: SWS fragmentation, especially mixed and slow arousals, represents a supportive neurophysiologic marker that may assist the differential diagnostic process between DOAs and SHE. Quantitative SWS microstructure parameters may improve diagnosis and provide insight into pathophysiologic mechanisms.

- Excess daytime sleepiness, daily functioning and health-related quality of life during the first year after metabolic and bariatric surgery in patients with a known and unknown obstructive sleep apnea status. [Multicenter Study]
- CONCLUSIONS: Considering that pulse oximetry is more cost-effective, equally safe and comparable in EDS, its effect on daily functioning and HRQoL and no clinically relevant difference in TWL was found compared to the sleep test strategy, this study lends further support for pulse oximetry being the best strategy for managing OSA in patients undergoing MBS.

- Dynamic relationship and pleiotropic loci of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder with sleep traits. [Journal Article]Transl Psychiatry. 2026 Jun 15. [Online ahead of print]TP
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder modulated by genetic and environmental factors. Approximately 20-55% of individuals with ADHD experience concurrent sleep disturbances, yet the dynamic relationship between the two and their shared genetic mechanisms remain unclear. This study analyzed 11,288 participants (52.1% male) from the Adolescent Brain…

- Redefining hypersomnia disorders in the context of psychiatry. [Review]Encephale. 2026 Jun; 52(3S):S94-S99.E
- Daytime sleepiness and excessive sleep are frequent symptoms. When these symptoms are recognized, they are often attributed to comorbid depression or, following ambulatory screening, to obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). While OSA affects 20-50% of the population, more frequently in men, its contribution to sleepiness in the general population is modest, and subjective sleepiness shows stronger assoc…

- Obstructive sleep apnea and its relationship with psychiatric disorders. [Review]Encephale. 2026 Jun; 52(3S):S133-S137.E
- Obstructive sleep apnoea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is characterized by the recurrent occurrence of apnoea and hypopneas during sleep. OSAHS is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, and stroke. The high prevalence of OSAHS among patients with psychiatric disorders, along with the reciprocal links between these two cate…

- Polysomnographic and Clinical Characteristics of Narcolepsy in Saudi Arabia: A 12-Year Retrospective Study. [Journal Article]Saudi Med J. 2026 Jul; 47(7):1231-1239.SM
- CONCLUSIONS: Compared with NT2, NT1 is slightly more common and is characterized by more severe sleepiness and shorter sleep latency time. The diagnostic delay remains substantial, but treatment is effective in reducing EDS.

- Behind the mask of relapsing bimodal encephalitis: herpesvirus 7 and Epstein-Barr virus associated with Hashimoto's encephalopathy: a case report. [Case Reports]Front Immunol. 2026; 17:1782631.FI
- CONCLUSIONS: HHV-7 and EBV with long latency are likely associated with a cascade of autoimmune encephalitis, presenting as relapsing bimodal encephalitis. Thyroid autoantibodies-rather than conventional neuronal antibodies-appear central to the autoimmune phase, consistent with Hashimoto's encephalopathy.

- Survey on awareness of sleep medicine among members of the Japanese Society of Neurology. [Journal Article]Rinsho Shinkeigaku. 2026 Jun 13. [Online ahead of print]RS
- CONCLUSIONS: Although the importance of sleep-wake problems and sleep-related disorders and additional educational opportunities are well-recognized, confidence in diagnosis and treatment remained low. This survey revealed an unmet clinical need in sleep medicine among Japanese neurologists, underscoring the importance of structured, accessible education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

- This paper presents an overview of current pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options available for narcolepsy. Antidepressant medications, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, have demonstrated efficacy in mitigating cataplexy episodes. Additionally, various pharmaceutical agents, including psychostimulan…

- Comorbid mental disorders in extensively hospitalized patients due to severe self-harm: the association with intellectual developmental disorders. [Journal Article]Nord J Psychiatry. 2026 Jun 07; :1-10. [Online ahead of print]NJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Results highlight the importance of assessing IDD among severe self-harm inpatients. A diagnosis of IDD may open the door to a broader range of treatment adaptations specifically addressing the needs of individuals with complex developmental and psychological challenges. Given the small sample size, these findings should be viewed as preliminary and hypothesis-generating. Replication in larger samples is required for further confirmation.

- CONCLUSIONS: ML has the potential to improve CDH diagnosis. Deep learning models are promising for feature extraction; however, their black-box nature and high data requirements hinder clinical application.
