- Comorbid mental disorders in extensively hospitalized patients due to severe self-harm: the association with intellectual developmental disorders. [Journal Article]Nord J Psychiatry. 2026 Jun 07; :1-10. [Online ahead of print]NJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Results highlight the importance of assessing IDD among severe self-harm inpatients. A diagnosis of IDD may open the door to a broader range of treatment adaptations specifically addressing the needs of individuals with complex developmental and psychological challenges. Given the small sample size, these findings should be viewed as preliminary and hypothesis-generating. Replication in larger samples is required for further confirmation.

- Machine Learning for Diagnosis and Differentiation of Central Disorders of Hypersomnolence: A Systematic Review. [Review]Eur J Neurol. 2026 Jun; 33(6):e70661.EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: ML has the potential to improve CDH diagnosis. Deep learning models are promising for feature extraction; however, their black-box nature and high data requirements hinder clinical application. Future advancements depend on large, diverse datasets, multimodal and longitudinal data, and close collaboration between clinicians and data scientists.

- Diagnostic Value of Psychomotor Vigilance Task for Severe Sleep Inertia in Idiopathic Hypersomnia Versus Other Sleep Disorders Without Sleep Inertia. [Journal Article]J Sleep Res. 2026 May 31; :e70377. [Online ahead of print]JS
- Sleep inertia impairs performance upon awakening and may be assessed using the psychomotor vigilance task (PVT). This study aimed to determine optimal PVT lapse cut-offs at awakening to objectively measure sleep inertia by comparing patients with idiopathic hypersomnia (IH) and severe sleep inertia to patients with other sleep disorders (OSD) without sleep inertia, to assess the discriminative pe…

- Slow Wave Activity During Nocturnal Sleep in Hypersomnolence Disorder. [Journal Article]J Sleep Res. 2026 May 29; :e70353. [Online ahead of print]JS
- Slow waves during non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep are associated with the restorative aspects of sleep. Previous research has suggested reduced normalized slow wave activity (SWA), particularly in the first cycle of NREM sleep, as a feature of hypersomnolence disorder (HD); however, the scarcity of existing research highlights the need for replication studies. Thus, the aim of this investigat…

- Over 37% of pregnant women report excessive daytime sleepiness or hypersomnia during the first trimester, and commonly throughout the remaining trimesters of pregnancy and the postpartum period. The clinical presentation and symptoms of central disorders of hypersomnolence (CDH) such as narcolepsy, idiopathic hypersomnia, or excessive daytime sleepiness secondary to shift work or obstructive slee…

- Sodium-relevant comorbidity risk factors are highly prevalent in individuals with narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnia. [Journal Article]Sleep Med. 2026 May 20; 145:109023. [Online ahead of print]SM
- CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates the high prevalence of sodium-relevant comorbidity risk factors among individuals with narcolepsy or IH. Careful management, including limiting sodium exposure, may mitigate the clinical burden in these populations.

- Narcolepsy Type 2 in an Adolescent With Childhood Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Coexisting Absence Epilepsy: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e107464.C
- Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological disorder of sleep-wake regulation whose cardinal features include pathological daytime somnolence and dysregulation of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. It is frequently underdiagnosed in adolescents owing to symptom overlap with psychiatric, behavioral, and prior sleep disorders, including childhood obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Narcolepsy type 2 (NT2), define…

- CONCLUSIONS: Survey findings demonstrate adequacy of training in diagnosing CDH but suggest some gaps in training regarding rare conditions and advanced treatment and management, highlighting needs for targeted educational resources and standardized curricula.

- A novel, wearable, in-ear EEG technology to assess sleep and daytime sleepiness. [Journal Article]
- In-ear electroencephalography (EEG) has emerged as a promising alternative to traditional in-laboratory sleep studies, offering greater comfort and practicality. Here we present a novel in-ear EEG system, comparing in-ear recordings against scalp EEG channels acquired concurrently as part of polysomnography (PSG). The study enrolled 16 healthy control participants in a single-visit overnight-plus…

- Isolated/idiopathic rapid-eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) is, in most cases, an early form of α -synuclein-related neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies. Clinical reports suggest that iRBD is more common in individuals with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) compared to those without PTSD. We conducted polygenic risk score (PR…

- A cross-sectional study on menstrual health difficulties and premenstrual symptomatology in adolescent girls with intellectual disability: a salutogenic public health perspective. [Journal Article]Front Public Health. 2026; 14:1771244.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: Adolescent girls with ID face a high burden of menstrual and premenstrual difficulties across physical, psychological, and behavioral domains. A salutogenic, multidisciplinary approach to gynecological care, together with behavioral support and yoga-based interventions, provided a culturally feasible framework for addressing menstrual health needs within special-school settings. For longitudinal effectiveness, such integrated strategies need to be evaluated.
