- First Experience With Extravascular Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator Under Deep Sedation. [Journal Article]Pacing Clin Electrophysiol. 2026 Jun 20. [Online ahead of print]PC
- CONCLUSIONS: EV-ICD implantation under cardiologist-administered DS-NIV appears to be feasible and safe, offering improved workflow efficiency compared to GA. These findings support deep sedation as a practical alternative in experienced centers, potentially expanding access to EV-ICD therapy.

- A comparison of pediatric sepsis definitions based on systemic inflammatory response syndrome and Phoenix criteria: a single-center PICU retrospective study. [Journal Article]Ital J Pediatr. 2026 Jun 19. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The SIRS and PSC identify partially overlapping populations with distinct risk stratification, showing poor diagnostic concordance. The PSC has superior independent predictive performance for PICU 28-day mortality and may be considered for prognostic assessment of infected children in the PICU setting. Importantly, historical study results based on the SIRS criteria should be extrapolated cautiously to PSC-defined populations.

- Influenza-associated myocarditis: a case series and structured narrative review. [Journal Article]Virol J. 2026 Jun 19. [Online ahead of print]VJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Influenza-associated myocarditis is a rare, potentially fatal complication affecting healthy adults. Our findings highlight the importance of early recognition, prompt antiviral therapy, and access to mechanical circulatory support when needed. This case series, among the first from Saudi Arabia, along with a literature review, offers insights into the clinical spectrum, management, and outcomes of this underrecognized condition.

- A retrospective study on the application of unilateral epidural anesthesia in older patients with hip fracture. [Journal Article]BMC Geriatr. 2026 Jun 19. [Online ahead of print]BG
- CONCLUSIONS: Compared with CSEA, UEA was associated with more stable hemodynamics. Despite a longer induction time, UEA represents a viable anesthetic option for older patients with hip fractures. These findings are exploratory and hypothesis-generating due to the retrospective, non-randomized design. Further prospective studies are needed to confirm these results.

- Fermented foods and inflammation: a crossover intervention trial with fresh and pasteurized sauerkraut. [Journal Article]
- Fermented foods have been proposed to beneficially affect glycemic control and the inflammatory state of the body, potentially by strengthening the gut barrier. However, scientific evidence for their health-promoting capabilities is scarce. We assessed the influence of the daily consumption of fresh and pasteurized sauerkraut on circulating "leaky gut" markers, inflammatory markers, blood pressur…

- Risk Factors of Blood Culture Positivity and Mortality in Bloodstream Infections: A Population-Based Study of Patients With B-Cell Malignancies. [Journal Article]Eur J Haematol. 2026 Jun 19. [Online ahead of print]EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Routinely available parameters obtained at time of admission were associated with blood culture positivity and mortality. Our findings support the rationale for developing predictive models to individualise infection management.

- A man in his early 70s presented with septic shock and severe ARDS, likely after aerosolising Francisella tularensis Initial empirical treatment for community-acquired pneumonia with ceftriaxone failed, resulting in clinical deterioration with stage 3 acute kidney injury requiring dialysis and necrotising pneumonia. After pneumonic tularaemia was identified, antimicrobial therapy was transitioned…

- Safety gaps in pediatric liquid antihypertensive compounding: a scoping review and regulatory-based safety assessment. [Review]Eur J Pharm Biopharm. 2026 Jun 19; :115153. [Online ahead of print]EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The available literature on compounding antihypertensive formulations mainly emphasizes physicochemical performance, with less attention given to exposure-related safety parameters in pediatric patients. Integrating total daily excipient exposure metrics and structured justification for excipient selection may improve alignment with regulatory expectations and support safer, patient-centered compounding practices in pediatric clinical care.

- To Hold or Not to Hold, That is the Question: Sick Day Medication Guidance as Routine Care. [Journal Article]Am J Kidney Dis. 2026 Jun 19. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- With the cardiovascular and kidney protective benefits of medications such as sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, renin-angiotensin -aldosterone system (RAAS) inhibitors, and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs), there are increased rates of initiation and use of combinations of these agents. The same mechanisms that allow for reduction of glomerular hypertension and blood…

- Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a relatively common malignant tumor in the digestive system, and its prevention and treatment remain a challenging issue. The migration and invasion of CRC leads to significantly poor prognosis. Heat shock protein 60 (HSP60) is a mitochondrial chaperone that maintains the stability of mitochondrial proteins and plays an important functional role in the progression of mo…

- CONCLUSIONS: IVUS reliably detects aortic collapse during uncontrolled hemorrhage and demonstrates a quantifiable MAP-dependent relationship between vascular caliber and shock progression. These data provide essential parameters for hemorrhage interpretation and development of biomimetic noncompressible torso hemorrhage simulation models.
