- The association between maternal FT3/FT4 ratio in early pregnancy and adverse neonatal outcomes: a retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]Front Endocrinol (Lausanne). 2026; 17:1802981.FE
- Maternal thyroid hormone homeostasis during early gestation is fundamental for fetal growth and development, yet the specific clinical implications of the ratio between free triiodothyronine and free thyroxine, a marker of peripheral deiodinase activity and metabolic status, remain insufficiently explored regarding newborn health.

- Objective: To investigate the baseline thyroid function status and influencing factors in preterm infants. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted, enrolling 2 236 preterm infants with gestational ages of 28-<37 weeks admitted to the Department of Neonatology, Capital Center for Children's Health, Capital Medical University between September 2015 and September 2024, and 912 full-term infan…

- Desmoid Tumor of the Porta Hepatis: A Rare Location With Unusual Clinical Presentation. [Journal Article]Case Reports Hepatol. 2026; 2026:1253334.CR
- CONCLUSIONS: This report highlights an extremely rare presentation of desmoid tumor in the hepatic hilum, mimicking malignancy. It underscores the importance of histopathological confirmation, multidisciplinary management, and individualized follow-up strategies, especially in women of reproductive age.

- Perplexing Severe Cholestasis in the Postpartum Period. [Case Reports]ACG Case Rep J. 2026 May; 13(5):e02115.AC
- A 36-year-old postpartum woman with prior intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy and gallstone pancreatitis presented with right upper quadrant pain, jaundice, and elevated liver enzymes. Initial workup suggested drug-induced liver injury, but laboratory results worsened after antibiotics were discontinued. Imaging and liver biopsies revealed cholestasis and progressive fibrosis. Endoscopic retrog…

- Association between glycemic variability and composite adverse neonatal outcomes in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus: a retrospective study. [Journal Article]J Matern Fetal Neonatal Med. 2026 Dec; 39(1):2660439.JM
- CONCLUSIONS: Glycemic variability, measured by glucose SD and CV from SMBG data, was independently associated with CANO in women with GDM, though with limited discriminative ability as a standalone predictor. Future prospective studies with larger sample sizes and CGM-derived metrics are needed to validate these findings.

- Impact of tighter glycaemic targets on pregnancy outcomes in a multi-ethnic cohort with gestational diabetes: A retrospective, single centre observational study. [Journal Article]Obstet Med. 2026 May 04; :1753495X261445509. [Online ahead of print]OM
- CONCLUSIONS: Tighter glycaemic targets had no impact on large-for-gestational age babies or composite adverse neonatal outcomes. There was reduced spontaneous vaginal birth, gestational hypertension, neonatal jaundice and increased pharmacological treatment.

- Maternal health literacy as a potential determinant of infant and early childhood health: a systematic review. [Systematic Review]Front Public Health. 2026; 14:1743880.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: MHL shows promising systematic associations with infant outcomes across multiple domains spanning the early life course, operating primarily through behavioral pathways requiring maternal agency. This pattern supports conceptualizing MHL as a potential foundational public health determinant and equity-relevant intervention target. However, low certainty of evidence underscores the need for standardized measurement, longitudinal studies, and intervention trials to establish causality.

- Obstructive urinary tract infection-related septic shock in late pregnancy complicated by β-thalassemia intermedia and whipworm infection: a case report. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case underscores the importance of timely imaging for source control in pregnant patients with sepsis and atypical laboratory findings. It also highlights the need to consider region-specific hereditary and parasitic diseases in the differential diagnosis for migrant populations, as these can complicate clinical presentation and management.

- GeneReviews®: Alpha-Thalassemia [BOOK]
- Alpha-thalassemia (α-thalassemia) has two clinically significant forms: hemoglobin Bart hydrops fetalis (Hb Bart) syndrome (caused by deletion/inactivation of all four α-globin genes; --/--), and hemoglobin H (HbH) disease (most frequently caused by deletion/inactivation of three α-globin genes; --/-α). Hb Bart syndrome, the more severe form, is characterized by prenatal onset of generalized edem…
- β-Lactam-Induced Fever Mimicking Post-caesarean Infection: A Diagnostic Dilemma. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Mar; 18(3):e105556.C
- Fever after a caesarean section is often believed to be caused by infections, which usually require an escalation of antimicrobial treatment. Although caesarean delivery can be lifesaving for both mother and baby, the procedure carries risks, with emergency caesarean sections being associated with a higher chance of complications, including infection and haemorrhage, compared to elective caesarea…

- Investigation of a neonate with blocked D phenomenon: resolving D type using serologic and molecular methods. [Case Reports]Immunohematology. 2026 Mar 01; 42(1):1-5.I
- This article addresses the diagnostic challenges encountered and resolution of a neonate with blocked D phenomenon, where maternal anti-D had masked the D sites on the neonate's red blood cells (RBCs), initially resulting in false-negative D typing. This article emphasizes the importance of integrating serologic and molecular methods for accurate blood type determination, which is crucial for man…

- The impact of Vaginal Flora Screening in the third trimester on pregnancy outcomes in primiparas undergoing vaginal delivery: a retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Abnormal vaginal flora colonization is associated with an increased risk of maternal perinatal infection, without a corresponding increase in neonatal infection. These findings support the implementation of third-trimester vaginal flora screening and appropriate treatment for pregnant women planning vaginal delivery.

- Group B Streptococcus colonization, antibiotic resistance, and maternal-neonatal outcomes in late pregnancy: a retrospective study from 2017 to 2024. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: GBS colonization in this region was lower than national estimates, while qPCR offers markedly improved detection compared with culture. Local isolates show full susceptibility to penicillin, supporting its continued use as the first-line agent for intrapartum prophylaxis. Strengthened surveillance of colonization and resistance patterns, together with targeted prevention strategies, is warranted to reduce perinatal infection risk.
