- Jugular Venous Pressure and Kussmaul's Sign as Predictors of Outcome in Heart Failure. [Journal Article]
- Simplifying the estimation of internal jugular venous pressure (JVP) as visible or not visible above the right clavicle in the sitting position has attracted attention for risk assessment in patients with heart failure (HF). It remains unclear whether this simple assessment, combined with its inspiration response known as Kussmaul's sign, is useful in patients with HF who vary in features such as…

- Fatal pulmonary embolism following injectable gluteal filler usage: a case report. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case report highlights the dangers associated with injectable filler usage in the gluteal region. Physicians and patients should be aware of the possible complications and how to avoid it.

- Pseudo-Kussmaul's Sign in Atrioventricular Nodal Reentry Tachycardia: A Prospective, Cohort Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Pseudo-Kussmaul's sign does occur in a substantial number of patients during AVNRT. Clinical appreciation of this phenomenon is possible in half to three-fourth of patients, provided the mean RA pressures are low enough for the variation to be visible in the neck.

- Jugular Venous Pressure Response to Inspiration for Risk Assessment of Heart Failure. [Journal Article]
- Simplifying jugular venous pressure (JVP), visibility of the right internal jugular vein above the right clavicle in the sitting position, has been proposed in the management of heart failure (HF) because of its convenience. However, this method may be undervalued for the detection of mildly to moderately increased JVP. Increased JVP on inspiration, known as Kussmaul sign, may be a useful physica…

- Constrictive pericarditis after SARS-CoV-2 vaccination: A case report. [Case Reports]
- Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and vaccination against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are associated with cardiovascular complications. Here, we report a case of right-sided heart failure caused by constrictive pericarditis that developed after the administration of messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccine against SARS-CoV-2. A 70-year-old woman presented with …

- Kussmaul's sign for the diagnosis of right ventricular myocardial infarction: a systematic review and meta-analysis of diagnostic test accuracy studies. [Systematic Review]CJEM. 2021 Mar; 23(2):185-194.CJEM
- CONCLUSIONS: In the presence of acute myocardial infarction, Kussmaul's sign is specific for acute right ventricular myocardial infarction and may serve as an important clinical sign of right ventricular dysfunction requiring preload preserving management.

- A young female presenting with heart failure secondary to eosinophilic myocarditis: a case report and review of the literature. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: Eosinophilic myocarditis is a rare but fatal disease if left untreated. Hence clinicians should have high index of suspicion to diagnose eosinophilic myocarditis in clinical context of heart failure due to myocarditis. The diagnoses of eosinophilic myocarditis may often be challenged especially in a poor recourse setting. However available investigation should be used to diagnose this condition without delay. Early treatment with systemic steroids may prevent fatal outcome and therapies for this disease have yet to be validated in large prospective studies.

- Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Very Late Intrapericardial Hematoma 8 Years after Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting. [Case Reports]
- A 55-year-old man presented with dyspnea, edema, and appetite loss. He had undergone coronary artery bypass grafting 8 years previously. He had jugular venous distention and Kussmaul's sign. Contrast-enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) demonstrated an intrapericardial mass compressing the right ventricular (RV) cavity. T1- and T2-weighted black-blood images showed a mass with heter…

- Hamman's syndrome in diabetic ketoacidosis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Hamman's syndrome (spontaneous subcutaneous emphysema and pneumomediastinum) is a rare complication of DKA.Presentation may be with chest or neck pain and shortness of breath, and signs are subcutaneous emphysema and Hamman's sign - a precordial crunching or popping sound during systole.Boerhaave's syndrome should be considered as a differential diagnosis, especially in cases with severe vomiting. The diagnosis of pneumomediastinum is made on chest radiograph, but a CT thorax with water-soluble oral contrast looking for contrast leak may be required if there is high clinical suspicion of Boerrhave's syndrome.Hamman's syndrome has an excellent prognosis, self-resolving with the correction of the ketoacidosis in all published cases in the literature.

- Kussmaul's sign and rapid X-Y descents in constrictive pericarditis. [Journal Article]
- Right-sided heart failure is not uncommon. A careful jugular venous examination looking for the distinct Kussmaul's sign and rapid X-Y descents, which are highly indicative of constrictive pericarditis, is markedly helpful in guiding the correct diagnosis and proper management.
