- Classic Murmur, Unexpected Diagnosis: A Case Report and Pathophysiological Review. [Journal Article]Case Rep Cardiol. 2026; 2026:3461386.CR
- A systolic murmur best heard at the aortic area with radiation to the neck is considered a hallmark of aortic stenosis. We report a patient with this auscultatory pattern in whom investigation revealed an unexpected diagnosis. Accompanying symptoms reinforced the initial suspicion, adding another layer of complexity to the diagnostic process. This case highlights the limitations of relying solely…

- High-Risk Vascular Remodeling in Takayasu Arteritis: Descending Aortic Multilobulated Saccular Aneurysms and Aortic Coarctation. [Case Reports]JACC Case Rep. 2026 Aug 11; :109670. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: The case illustrates the complexity of TAK presenting with aneurysmal dilation and thoracic coarctation. Guidelines emphasize classification scores and imaging for diagnosis, therapeutic strategies include immunosuppressors, reserving vascular intervention for high-risk lesions.TAK should be considered in patients with murmurs, discrepant blood pressures, or limb claudication. Multimodality imaging is essential for diagnosis. The optimal management requires tailored immunosuppressive therapy.

- Mixed Candida and Brucella Aortic Valve Endocarditis With Aortic Root Abscess Requiring a Bentall Procedure: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jul; 18(7):e112311.C
- Mixed-pathogen infective endocarditis is uncommon and may be difficult to recognize when the clinical course is prolonged and nonspecific. We report a case of mixed Candida albicans and Brucella melitensis native aortic valve endocarditis in a 37-year-old previously healthy man who presented with five months of intermittent fever, chills, anorexia, fatigue, 7 kg weight loss, progressive dyspnea, …

- Giant Ascending Aortic Aneurysm With Atypical Presentation as Abdominal Pain. [Case Reports]JACC Case Rep. 2026 Aug 08; :109767. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: This case emphasizes atypical presentations of thoracic aortic disease, compensated high-risk anatomy, and timely referral to specialized aortic centers to facilitate definitive surgical care despite temporary institutional capacity constraints.Giant ascending aortic aneurysms may remain clinically compensated despite high-risk anatomy and present atypically, requiring high clinical suspicion and early multimodality imaging. When definitive repair is delayed by system-level constraints, structured interim stabilization, surveillance, and referral coordination are critical.

- Nurse-led heart murmur clinic at Sheffield Children's Hospital: a review. [Journal Article]Br J Cardiol. 2026; 33(2):031.BJ
- Anurse-led heart murmur clinic was introduced at Sheffield Children's Hospital in 2023 to reduce waiting times, support the clinical nurse specialist (CNS) role development, and improve cost-efficiency. By triaging appropriate referrals to a CNS-led pathway with pre-arranged echocardiography and telephone follow-up, the clinic reduced wait times from 16 to 5-6 weeks and saved over £3,000 in its f…

- Distinguishing Between Innocent and Pathologic Pediatric Heart Murmurs: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jun; 18(6):e111177.C
- Pediatric heart murmurs are common findings during physical examination, but only a small number of cases require intervention. This case report highlights a routine physical examination for a 10-year-old male patient that revealed a grade III/VI harsh systolic murmur heard in all areas of auscultation and a fixed split S2. A subsequent transthoracic echocardiogram showed an atrial septal defect …

- Parental anxiety levels before and after pediatric cardiology evaluation with echocardiography in asymptomatic children with heart murmurs: a prospective study. [Journal Article]Front Pediatr. 2026; 14:1901573.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: Specialized pediatric cardiology consultation and echocardiographic evaluation substantially reduce parental anxiety, independent of socioeconomic characteristics or specific cardiac findings in this cohort. Clinicians should prioritize early, tailored communication for high-risk families with a family history of heart disease to effectively manage the psychological burden of a heart murmur referral.

- Prevalence, Clinical Profile, and Factors Associated With Congenital Heart Disease in Children Diagnosed at National Referral Hospital, Bhutan: A Cross-Sectional Study. [Journal Article]Health Sci Rep. 2026 Jul; 9(7):e72830.HS
- CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of congenital heart disease was 5.4 per 1000 pediatric patients, with most cases diagnosed postnatally, predominantly during the neonatal period. Atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, and patent ductus arteriosus were the most common types. These findings highlight the need to implement prenatal fetal cardiac screening to enable early detection and timely intervention, thereby improving outcomes for affected newborns.

- Patterns of morbidity, multimorbidity, and mortality in aging cats: findings from seven years of the Cat Prospective Ageing and Welfare Study. [Journal Article]Front Vet Sci. 2026; 13:1813450.FV
- Aging is associated with an increased risk of morbidity, multimorbidity and mortality in cats. However, longitudinal cohort studies are somewhat limited in this species. Information about the prevalence and incidence of age-related disease, combinations of morbidities, and factors associated with mortality could provide insights into the impact of aging on the welfare of domestic cats.

- Non-contact Heart Sound Measurement by Defocused Speckle Imaging. [Journal Article]IEEE J Biomed Health Inform. 2026 Jul 06; PP. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- Phonocardiogram (PCG) is a graphical representation of heart sounds and murmurs, playing a vital role in the early screening and prevention of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). In this study, we propose a first camera-stethoscope that is capable of recording PCG contactlessly, enabled by the principle of defocused speckle imaging (DSI). By illuminating the chest surface adjacent to the heart with a…
